why me,

Don’t presume to tell me what I experienced on my mission. You are incredibly naive if you think that the majority of 19-20 year-old LDS missionaries are well-behaved all the time.

Paul
I have never assumed that young missionaries who most likely are living for the first time away from home, would not behave immaturely. It goes with the age as I have said on this thread. Need I tell you just how young catholic men and women behave at parties and in other aspects of life? Human beings learn by experience and at times this experience can lead to maturity.

Well let me put it this way: Three missionaries commit an act. Catholics on this board use it to bash the lds church. Do you get the picture? Let him or her without sin cast the first stone…
Thank you so very much for illustrating one of the most annoying aspects of Mormon culture.

Who on earth would come to a Catholic bulletin board, indulge in debate, and then cry persecution when people disagree with him/her/it?

If it didn’t whine, it wouldn’t be a Mormon. I sweartagawd.

P.S.: discussing some proven, verifiable bad behavior perpetrated by some missionaries is not “bashing the lds church” [sic]. It’s simply chatting about current events.

Imagine if some group of devil worship types (and from our perspective that would include Catholics) went into the Salt Lake temple and vandalized one of the murals. Then, after being caught, they wailed and whined about how misunderstood they were – and tried to gain sympathy from the world. Imagine if the Pope were to protect them with press releases and make excuses for them. Laughable and pathetic!
Replace the words devil worshiper with the word catholic and I can tell you that no one would begin to harp on the catholic church as a representation of this group. It would be an illogical leap for sure.

Where is the excuse? I see no excuse given by the lds church.

There are several posts which link the lds church and its teachings to this act. And there are several posts which bash the lds church because of this act. Three missionaries commit an offensive act and the mormon haters come out to bash. It is pitiful that is for sure but such is ‘catholic’ life on this thread.

I certainly hope that’s not your real name. I could see an invitation to a disciplinary council in your future.

LaMar (not my real name)

See, that’s where we disagree.

Catholics tend to see other Catholics as individuals. We seem to see one another as members of a hive.

Catholics can criticize their leaders without fear of losing job, home and family. We can’t (unless we’re anonymous).

If two Catholic priests bashed up a statue on temple square, and posted photos of the deed, I doubt too many other Catholics would be arguing in their favor, or claiming that they were being victimized when society mocked them for doing so.

Minor detail: nobody would be able to get into the LDS temple without a temple recommend;) . You can’t just “run in”🙂

Annie
I hate to disagree with you on this, but there are many fake recommends out there.

So many people have been saying the missionaries are the victims, or “The Church” is the victim, but did “The Church” or these missionaries pay for the shrine? No. The victims are the innocent parishioners at Sangre de Cristo.

And why would anyone assume only the “Mormon bashers” come here to complain? Catholic people are upset that three young men desecrated their holy shrine while representing their church, and the Mormons cry persecution. People like Z try to “throw stones” at the Catholic Church, using such examples as priests and sex scandals. Well, let me ask a question. Three missionaries, again, representing their church do something they KNOW is wrong, and more Mormons than not support them, saying it’s no big deal. A Catholic priest molests a poor child somewhere, and do you see the Catholics up in arms supporting him, saying it’s not such a bug deal? Well, in a way, that’s what these missionaries did; they molested an innocent child, this child (metaphorically, of course) being a beloved shrine and a holy alter. But what I see is more Mormons saying it’s not such a big deal.

Now I respect several Mormons on this forums, but when you look at the Mormon forums about this, so many more are joking about it, saying for penance they should “say 5 Hail Mary’s.”

You are correct - sadly. The point was that you cannot just run in off the street into an LDS** temple **as you can run into a Catholic church. However, as long as it is unlocked, anyone can run into an LDS chapel:o

I hate to be a party pooper here but when a person looks at history one would find a vibrant Aztec culture vandalized for church and Spain. I do believe that on a scale of 1 to 10 that would be a 10 for sure since an entire culture was destroyed. And need I mention pagan lithuania and pagan latvia and what happened in those countries when the Catholic church arrived with its missionaries?

Let those without sin cast the first stone…:o

If two young catholic men bashed up temple square no one would equate it with the catholic church. I will bet a dollar that no priest can criticize the pope nor go against catholic doctrine for too long. Am I right?

People really need to quit quoting that if they are going to “throw stones” too.

which means what? these weren’t two mormon young men only. they were missionaries attired in their uniform. the vandalism isn’t near as bad as the desecration. if two catholic priests went INSIDE an LDS temple and took pictures of themselves performing rituals over the altar in an ordinance room I would be horrified. that would be scandalous. that’s also a closer comparison. but hey you sure have used this to threadswarm with your mopologetics buddies and tell us how this shows how the LDS church is the real victim here and we catholics should be apologizing for this incident.

would this be the culture that was “vibrantly” murdering people on the altar of sacrifice?

I think so, but it was also the culture with many gold artifacts that were stolen by catholics. :o Plus the destruction of their culture.
