There was a small piece in my paper today that said the Bishop of the area had requested that any criminal charges against the young men be dropped in Christian forgiveness. Apparently some high ranking Mormon officials apologized to him personally, and assured him that the boys (they certainly don’t deserve the name “men”) would be dealt with by LDS officials.

IMHO that would seem to close the issue in a fashion consistent with Christian teachings…👍
here is why i disagree. The LDS church didn’t do this. the 3 men did. they need to apologize. the one who was still on a mission did. (probably because the leaders told him to) but the photos were posted by one of the others. where is that apology? the LDS leaders acted fine in this matter. the members who post on the subject seem to have a different opinion.

Cool it Bud, I grew up with the Tridentine Mass and I don’t remember if the readings are in English or not,. Actually I don’t remember anything but the Homily being in English. I have also been to a Latin Mass a few years go and I can’t even remember if the readings were in English then even. Maybe he didn’t go on a regular basis. Why the attitude.
It has been posted here, as well as other threads, explaining that the Epistle and the Gospel are done in Latin, and the Vernacular. The homily is given in the vernacular.

Before getting all wound up, review the posts concerning Why Me. Many of us see the half truths that he/she posts. For instance, claiming that on another thread, the majority of people there couldn’t understand the Latin Mass. When he/she was questioned on it, amazingly a thread about that very subject was started by why me. What he/she doesn’t realize is there are time stamps on these posts and when a thread is started, The time stamps prove that he/she is doing nothing but playing a game.

If you read why me’s posts, he/she often ignores questions that require any kind of definite answer.

That is why people get perturbed with why me.

But then again, that has nothing to do with 3 cretons vandalizing a shrine, and not being man enough to admit it and apologize.

One has half heartedly apologized, but the other two have not been heard from. My suggestion to the San Luis parish would be to tell the LDS church that if they don’t get a personal apology from the 2 that are MIA, that they will continue to press charges.

a lector is a “calling” for a lay person that usually requires training and a blessing from the priest. the bishop of each diocese sets specific requirements. interested people volunteer and are accepted by the parish priest. usually there is a “sr lector” who trains and schedules lectors. what they do is at each mass they read the scriptures during the mass except the ones from the gospels. those must be read by a priest or deacon. sometimes the lectors will read the psalm at mass if it isn’t sung. they may participate in reading the prayers of the faithful at that mass and in some cases will give announcements before or after mass.

your PM is full
:o Oops…thank you:thumbsup:

What did christ say? Let him or her without sin cast the first stone. True is this case as well. These missionaries made a mistake. What to do? Of course we can have them flogged in public or burn them at the stake as heathens but…such times are from a bygone age. At the moment there was an apology, church discipline will occur, and the law will also come into the picture.

Also, the young men in question will need to be forgiven. What more is there to say?
Actually, I think they should be flogged in public. 👍

What nonsense. I place Mormon beliefs on the same plane as scientology. In fact, if Joe Smith had invented a story about Lord Xenu dumping souls into volcanoes, that’s exactly what Mormons would believe today. It just so happened that he came up with another - and equally ludicrous - religion.

The contradictions between Mormon beliefs and Apostolic beliefs is so obvious it isn’t even worth discussing. We may as well be discussing the flying spaghetti monster, for all the good it will do. Is there a mind-dulling gas enveloping Utah or something?
Bravo!! :clapping:

I was under the impression that if someone does as you say Why Me does, then they should be reported to the moderator and then let them handle it. Personally I think if we just ignore them completely they would go away on their own. They WANT to get a rise out of us. And your right, I haven’t been on this thread very long and I don’t go back and read whats been written, takes to long.

It’s nice to think about.🙂

I don’t get the people who excuse the behavior by invoking the words of Jesus Christ- “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.”
If that is true, then the world would be running wild worse than it already is.

because he is claiming to go NOW. he is not quoting from childhood or years past but from the other day. he claims to spend great amounts of time at the convent helping the nuns and at the church with the nuns and priest. he claims to be giving the readings at mass and being very involved in the parish including going to multiple forms of latin mass. YET he is a convert to mormonism, married in the mormon temple and still attending mormon services and encouraging his daughters to do so as well. he consistently attacks the catholic faith and bears his testimony of the truth of the BoM and Joseph Smith. he evangelizes for the mormon religion on multiple boards. he claims to be an inactive mormon because he doesn’t believe in God. (yet he still believes in the BoM) you might want to read his posts before you decide he is being unfairly picked on. (he has a habit of asking friends on the LDS boards to come over here and teach us catholics how we ought to be mormons)
Pray for him, sounds like a very troubled person.

i agree with that.

Lord Jesus please bless whyme. grant him peace and joy in this life and take him to your presence forever when his days on earth are finished. amen

I only just come across this thread, that is disgusting.
I have to hand it to you Zerinus, your attempts to sugar coat the incident is hilarious! I especially like the part where you attempted to defend them about cutting off the head earlier in the thread!
Thanks for the good laugh!

In all fairness to WhyMe, we have an evening Latin (Tridentine/High) Mass in my Parish on First Fridays and it’s pretty much as he describes. I attend it when I can, they do a superb job of the Gregorian Chant and the whole thing is almost a work of art. It’s always sung by guest Priests (usually three concelebrate) and we do not have Latin or Latin/English Missals. With the exception of the Homily, which is sometimes omitted entirely, everything is in Latin and the Mass is mostly attended by older people. Latin Mass is before my time, so I have to work to figure out what’s going on.

Thank you but unfortunately my catholic friends on this section of the forum just don’t get it.

It should be a closed issue and I am sure that it is for the parish concerned. Now if such forgiveness can be seen from the more unforgiving catholics on this section, the thread can be closed and we can all move on.

In fact, I will make a suggestion: Can the moderator please close this thread? It has become pointless. 🙂

Wisest thing you’ve said so far!

And were dumb enough to post photos.

Salt Lake Tribune apparently in denial. Look at title of the article: Mormon missionaries allegedly damage Colorado Catholic shrine

Doesn’t surprise me. Didn’t Joseph Smith shut down a newspaper by force for publishing exposes on him and his church? If I remember correctly, that’s why he and his brother were in Carthidge (sp?) Jail.

This was when the story first broke, in subsequent posts it was made known that the SL Tribune had been in legal trouble for another incident where they labeled somebody a criminal who was later found innocent, then they were sued for libel.
I thought “alleged” was a dumb word also:rolleyes: considering what the photos depicted.

That’s the bishop’s decision. He is free to do as he sees fit in this circumstance. As far as everyone should be concerned, it’s over. However, I am of the belief (from experience) that “christian forgiveness” - however it is defined - is not something that one can turn on and off like a water faucet. It takes a long time to reach that state through the grace of God. Any other way of looking at it is not dealing with the issue in reality.
