Well, I’m just back from visiting family in Ireland, didn’t check the board once, and I see I’ve missed something new. I never realized that the PB’s involved foretelling people’s futures, nor that specific individuals are appointed to what can be a lifetime office. How do they choose the “patriarchs” and how do they differentiate this practice from pagan soothsaying? They don’t need to be stupid, just gullable and obedient. For instance, Mormons don’t realize that the temple name given to them “by revelation” is the same name given to everyone who went through the temple that day. They don’t realize it because they are forbidden to reveal their secret names to one another, so they never find out.
I found out quite by accident.
It is the same with the PBs. So long as they don’t share them (except perhaps with a spouse), they will never see how similar and formulaic they all are.
