I like the signature, but it is not really all that appropriate here at CAF.

However, I am going right right over to the Mormon Coffee blog, where it is 150% appropriate, and stick it in their eye. Blasted bible thumpers.

We are having a little dustup over there about hell. Seems that a Mormon wrote a column in an L.A. Jewish journal saying that only the bible thumpers think that Jews are going to hell and that Mormons know it ain’t so. The bible thumpers are bent out of shape about that.

I am planning on giving them a couple more shots to the kneecaps. Check it out. Let’em have it. Too bad our Catholic friends here at CAF don’t have a dog in that fight, but they might get some laughs out of it.

I am going to figure out a way to use STM’s signature quote from Pope Leo I. Maybe the bible thumpers will say the Pope is the antichrist or something similarly wacky. They will tick off my wife, who is a convert from Catholicism, and likes to tell her family that the LDS Prophet “is like the Pope but more so.”

Mocking the faith of others is your sport, or what?

Rebecca

If hatred is a sport, then I am a lightweight amateur, they are heavyweight professionals and you would not qualify to enter the ring. With respect, I submit that, if you have not been there, then you do not have the understanding that would be required to criticize those who have.

Also, remember that these are the same people who here, in America, the land of the free, murdered both your Catholic spiritual ancestors and your Mormon biological ancestors.

In any event:“Let us return from that Table like lions breathing out fire, terrifying to the devil!”
– St. John Chrysostum Sounds like a guy who would have fit, tall in the saddle, riding with Brigham Young.

I’ve had this conclusion mulling about in my head, based on my experiences with mormons, that in general there is among “the saints” an inability to forgive.

This statement only validates that conclusion.

Besides that, I don’t recall that any of my biological ancestors were murdered in America.

I don’t think you understand the context of St John Chrysostum’s words. Certainly it wasn’t to join up with the likes of BY.

There are good individuals in the LDS church but the more you get to know the more you realize they are not saints as they advertise to be.
i think we could say that about any group. Catholics congregations included. People are people. ive had interesting experiences getting to know the Amish and Mennonites as well. doesnt matter what group it is. after all, we are all sinners. Peace 🙂

C. S. Lewis was Mormon?
I think Rebecca was inferring that C.S. Lewis’ words, as they appear in Todd’s signature, apply perfectly well to the LDS: an inference with which I totally agree. So would you, if you’ve ever been on the receiving end of Mormon religious discourse.

I think they apply perfectly well to people of any faith, based on their actions

I think the sig will keep me honest and temper my own discourse

I wasn’t talking about behavior. I’m talking about doctrine.

I wasn’t talking about behavior. I’m talking about doctrine.
I see it’s sole value as a behavioral reprimand - I don’t know of a doctrine that predominantly criticizes other religions
However, I do know of religions that are excessive in their criticism, as seen in Jehovah Witness publications that focus on the Catholic Church. (behavioral not doctrine)

Regarding LDS, there are obviously quotes of some people saying negative things about Catholics, but they are a few drops compared the large body of water that teaches Christian morals and behavior

If you have a conversation about Mormon doctrine, it is based entirely on the premise, and message of Mormonism, that all other religions are false.

Well, that assumption on ‘premise’ applies to almost all other religions: Roman Cahtolics, Protestants (Luther’s proc.), Judeism, etc. etc.

So why did you single out LDS in your application? Pls read my signature again to find your answer.

That assumption and premise does not apply to anything I’ve said.

No religion, other than LDS, is founded on a its god calling all other religions “an abomination”. That is where the conversation begins, when a LDS missionary starts preaching “restoration”.

NO NO NO
Many religions have the premise they are THE ONE religion and all others are wrong (that is the premise). With that premise, I’ve heard the term abomination, devils church etc thrown around by all parties to describe the other non-ONE churches.

Again, why is it that you single out the LDS for having this premise?

Yep. Original Christianity couldn’t even make it for more than a century. Apostasy, you know. The New Testament was selected from among her own writings and canonized at the end of the fourth century by an apostate church. Imagine that. In spite of His best efforts, God couldn’t keep his Church together, and He didn’t try it again until ole Joe Smith came along – the only man for the job, a treasure seeker who could see things through magic stones in his hat – in the 19th century. Funny thing is, ole Joe used that apostate church’s own writings as his NT.

If the first Church failed, how do we know the second one hasn’t gone into apostasy? There’s no record of the first apostasy – so how will we know about the second one? God’s track record with churches is not very good, if you believe the LDS. God made a mistake, huh? Yeah, sure. 😛

from the other board (I have been banned for posting quotes from former prophets…they hate that)

apparently the Mormon Church has a line you can call if you husband apostatizes from the Church and they will “swoop in” and take you and your children away…and (get this) pay for a “new life”.

Now, I have never heard of this committee…I have my doubt it exists…but it is very similar to what almost happened to me when I left the LDS Church

STM, I find it dishonest that you pulled a quote from a joke thread and posted it here as Truth - shame on you for your deceptive post.

Now if someone read the thread, they would find a serious discussion about what has happened and what should be done when one spouse leaves the church

Actually, the OP looked serious with all following posts mocking the idea. If that is incorrect, so be it. Please note, I said that I had never heard of such a committee and doubted one existed.

What caught my attention to it is that it is almost exactly what almost happened to me.

So, no…no shame here.

on a different note, Todd, why would you use a tagline quote that condemns your religion?

so you read and knew it was a joke statement. Thus you qualified your post here so it was not a BLATANT lie, just deceptive misrepresentation.

can you read? I stated

“the OP looked serious”

And then that the responses all mocked it. I was not surprised because LDS posters always mock posts that make the LDS Church bad.

So, please do not be dishonest about what I post…ok?

Nice deflection from the point, though
