Mormon presense at World Meeting on Families

I read the article and it’s a decent piece of fluff. By that I mean I didn’t read anything in it that was substantially newsworthy. Kind of like, “ok - and what is the point?”
 
I think the point was that now we view marriage today is far more romantized than it has been in the past, and that, in part, has played into the challenges that marriages face today.

That there is an element of lacking in reality when it comes to the marriage relationship these days.
 
I was at the World Meeting of Families all week, and I have NO idea what the author is trying to say.

The family is main building of both the Church and society. The issue is that Family is under attack from many different angles, which is causing MAJOR damage to both the Church and society.

There were 6 keynote presentations, plus 90 breakout sessions, with well over 100 presenters. Plus additional talks that some gave at local parishes, shrines, hotels, etc during the evenings.

This reporter doesn’t mention anything regarding any of the keynote speeches. Commenting on one or two different breakout sessions is hardly a comprehensive analysis.

If you want to know what was talked about at the World Meeting, they will be putting all of the talks online.

I realize since the newspaper is the Deseret News, it was going to focus on the the (small) LDS presense. I think one of their leaders, D. Todd Christofferson, made some sort of presentation, and a couple of LDS families were their to discuss what they do to keep family close.

I feel I can say this to you Marie given your background with the LDS 🙂 I’m not sure the LDS have a grasp on the reality of marriage regardless of the time period.

I agree marriage is different in many respects from what it was 200-300 years ago, just as life is. The author of the article wasn’t wrong in her reporting, it just seemed to be a lot of words written saying nothing substantial. As though an afterthought.Something to take up some space in the newspaper.
 
Well seeing how in the Book of Mormon their marriage is defined between one man and one woman. Later on Joseph Smith had a “revelation” and allowed for “spirit” wives. It is all rather interesting.
