It makes as much sense as just about any myth. The problem is that it derives from extra-Biblical, non-Church sources, and so must be considered non-authoritative.

We do understand that LDS teachings derive from a lot of non-Biblical, non-authoritative “revelations” and found “scriptures.” Yet, they are mixed together with valid teachings, such as the one you cite above about our bodies being the temples of the Holy Spirit. This is valid teaching, but your description of it is not exactly Biblical.
Please educate us as to how satan became satan. What is the catholic version?

The short version

the chief creatures of God are Angels and man

Angel --A spirit without a body

Not all Angels remained faithful to God

Lucifer was an Angel

Lucifer did not want to follow God

Angels were given the choice of free will

They are there to follow the directions, be messengers, and to carry out God’s wishes.

Because of Lucifer’s insurrection he was cast out of heaven and into hell. Apocalypse 12 7-9

To disbelieve Angels is to disbelive the Old and New Testament writtings.

some references in the old testament are from Gen 19. 1: toh 11-14 Ex 3. 2 Ex 23: 20

and the new testament too numerous to number

Well, there you go, not much difference between the two except that lucifer and us, are all children of god, but lucifer and others who followed him were cast down without bodies because of disobedience. But we were faithful as spirit children and now have our bodies.

But you miss the point Angels and Man are totally different creatures.

The angels sent down without bodies to destroy Sodom had no bodies

The angel sent to ask Mary for her permission ( yes we too have free will )and bear the Christ in her womb was not sent with a body.

The Angel of Death sent by God during Exodus did not have a body but cast a shadow.

Remember God created Heaven and the earth as seperate entities and Angels belong to heaven – man belongs to the earth.

God made man formed out of clay of the earth and breathed life into his nostrils. He was not a spirit in heaven

How do you justify scripture?.

Personally, I think you spend way, way too much time worrying about these non-essentials. All of this energy spent trying to “prove” that you pre-existed as a faithful Mormon and were then given a body. It just seems to me to be a whole bunch of distraction away from what you should be spending your time and energy on, which is the person of Jesus, our Lord. Jesus is all you need to know. Follow the Catholic Church to Jesus, and you’ll be AOK.

I have been pondering this issue for a long time… What gets me is Mitt Romney calls himself a Christian. By no means are the Mormons Christian. They do not believe in the Trinity (the basic belief of all Christians) They believe in some sort of “God Head” theology. Secondly, he has changed his beliefs…sorta like “Flip Flop”. I understand that the Mormons do not believe a baby is a baby until it is born.

He seems to be trying to persuade the Christian community that he is a Christian, when we all know that they are not… so right there I would not vote for the guy.

Priests for Life seems to be backing Sam Brownback. He is very pro-life and if all Catholics , Protestants and Non -Denominationals would vote their faith…this would not be an issue and we would have a good faithful Christian to vote for

Check out **Priests for Life **and see how Sam Brownback has voted.
Brownback is a good choice 🙂

We don’t compare ourselves with Islam or with any other religion for that matter. But our leaders are wise enough, intelligent enough, and inspired enough to know that mainiaining good relations with other religions, and treating them with respect, is important—unlike the Pope who went to Germany and made that gaff, and called Mohammed a terrorist, and then had to go the Turkey and pray in the mosque and grovel before the mufti out there to mend fences and repair the damage.

zerinus
are you not the same person who in this very thread told Allweather that he wasn’t worthy to enter? Kind of hypocritcal of you to say the mormons are so accepting yet you are not in the least.

Which means you capitulate, and you recognize that 2,000(!) years of tradition is just WAY too much to argue against!

LOL!

I laugh at you!
He can’t answer he has no leg to stand on and he knows it. It is called bob and weave 🙂

I am afraid that you are wrong. The cafeteria is not a part of the Temple. And you know this. There are also new temples where there are no cafterias at all. But the the temples with the cafeterias usually have them to the side but not inside. I just checked with my exwife about this. She goes to temples quite often. It is also a convience for the young who are doing baptisms for the dead. This is not an issue at all when one thinks of Isaac’s post which was just a little off the mark.
He is not wrong. The Denver Temple for example has a cafeteria inside the Temple. I know I worked in the Temple and used it regularly. Not all Temples have them especially the new ones but some do have them and some probably have been removed as well.

Most lds members who go to the temple bring their own clothes. And this is the way it should be. No problem there. And if you bring your own clothes, what are you paying for?

And we need to remember, that every pair of pants, socks, shirt worn, needs to be washed and dried. Who does it? The lds church.
Again you are wrong. Most clothing is rented outside of Utah.

Chris-WA;2032000:
The only thing that is required to leave is a letter of resignation. Nothing more. I have no idea what exmembers are complaining of. Of course, one must wait a while, maybe a couple of months. But the letter is sent to salt lake city and not just to the local ward (parish). But in the end, it is granted. No problem. Actually those who complain usually show victim status and want some sort of connection with cyber people. We all want a hug or a pity party or two, right?
You are wrong. Try reading a bit of this and see. exmormon.org/

I believe this post was somehow mis quoted. Not sure why but if it has been I am sorry. 🙂 Just in advance.

A great number of other Christians also do not believe in the Trinity. For instance, Oneness Pentecostals.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but…I would NEVER vote for a Mormon. Theirs is one of the scariest religions on Earth, IMO, and ONLY IMO. Again, please hear me. I mean this in a GOOD way, okay?:crying:  :rotfl: :grouphug: :kissme:
Imagine if someone said “I would NEVER vote for a black person.” Many people would react negatively to that. But why is everyone OK with the statement “I would NEVER vote for a Mormon”? What’s the relevant difference(s)?

Simple answer: If you do not believe in the Holy Trinity, you cannot call yourself a Christian. No amount of equivocation will change that fact. No Trinity=non-Christian. Full stop.

You have no control over what skin color you were born with. You DO have control over which religion you belong to and subscribe to. Mormonism is a choice, blackness is not.

In past-taught Mormon theology according to wikipedia it was considered a kind of choice based on one’s “pre-existence” or “pre-mortal life”. Let me document this by linking to:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blacks_and_Mormonism#Blacks_and_The_Church_of_Jesus_Christ_of_Latter-day_Saints
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blacks_and_The_Church_of_Jesus_Christ_of_Latter-day_Saints

which references this article on “pre-existence”:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-existence#Pre-mortal_existence_in_Mormonism_.28Latter-day_Saints.29

Be that as it may how would you feel if someone said, “I would NEVER vote for a Catholic”? Would you be OK with that. It’s not apples and oranges since we’re talking of religion not race in both cases.

Then are young children, say 2 or 3 year olds, who have been baptized, not Christians in your view since they have not yet been catechized about the Trinity?

I couldn’t see myself voting for THAT Mormon, Romney. I’ve been watching him lately. He seems, how can I put it? Plastic. Phony.

But I wouldn’t rule out voting for a Mormon. Just not that one.
