Then are young children, say 2 or 3 year olds, who have been baptized, not Christians in your view since they have not yet been catechized about the Trinity?

These children have been baptised into Christ and into the fold of the Church, therefore are Christians. Their belief is satisfied for them by the Church until such time that they are catechised. At any rate, as opposed to morman belief, baptism imparts not only membership in the body of Christ, but also an indelible mark upon the soul.

In past-taught Mormon theology according to wikipedia it was considered a kind of choice based on one’s “pre-existence” or “pre-mortal life”. Let me document this by linking to:

Be that as it may how would you feel if someone said, “I would NEVER vote for a Catholic”? Would you be OK with that. It’s not apples and oranges since we’re talking of religion not race in both cases.

Referances from Wikipedia are not authoritative, but I know the “pre-existance” malarky as well. It don’t hold water. Do mormans still believe that stuff? And if they don’t, how come all the black people have not turned white? Seems to me that if an injustice was committed in the past, the LDS “church” would put it right. I don’t buy it. Skin color you are born with, mormonism can be repudiated.

Just as an added thought; you sad “past-taught”, does that mean that sacred mormon theology has changed? You don’t teach that any more? Was this a “revelation” or just a massive infusion of “political correctness” Could you enlighten me?

Having lived in Utah my whole life, I would be extremely uncomfortable voting for a Mormon for president or having one serve in any national office. After listening to Mitt Romney, in particular, I’d have to say I won’t vote for him because he doesn’t seem to have a strong moral character(i.e he doesn’t tell the truth). It also seems he has flip-flopped on the abortion issue. I’m pro-life, I’d prefer to know for sure a person’s stance in this issue.****

No way would I vote for Mitt Romney! He flip flops on the issue of Pro-Choice and Pro-Life!
Several years ago he favored abortion and now he dosn’t… Makes me wonder why he changed his mind…must be he is in need of some Christian votes??..

Romney has spent his entire political career (up 'til now) consistently pro-choice, and this goes back to *before *Roe v. Wade (which he admitted when running for the Senate in 1994).

He belongs to a religion which allows abortions for all 5 exceptions (which cover all abortions), and allows the woman to make the choice.

Here is what the Mormon Prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley said on abortion:

“While we denounce it, we make allowance in such circumstances as when pregnancy is the result of incest or rape, when the life or health of the mother is judged by competent medical authority to be in serious jeopardy, or when the fetus is known by competent medical authority to have serious defects that will not allow the baby to survive beyond birth. But such instances are rare, and there is only a negligible probability of their occurring. In these circumstances those who face the question are asked to consult with their local ecclesiastical leaders and to pray in great earnestness, receiving a confirmation through prayer before proceeding.” Nov. 1998 Ensign

So the Mormon Church allows for abortions in all 5 classic “exceptions,” the exceptions that the pro-choice advocates insist upon in any pro-life legislation. Not only does this mean that a Mormon woman can rationalize abortion for just about anything (“health” of the mother allows for any psychological trauma they may want to claim), but he also states that a Mormon woman can get an abortion after getting “confirmation through prayer.”

God gives confirmation for (at least some) abortions??? Does that make God a situational ethicist, or just unsure of His own position on abortion?

Bottom line: Mormons allow for all the usual exceptions, and leave it up to the woman to make the choice. And Romney has supported this his entire career.

That’s not pro-life.
