Just saw something last night on the History Channel that the LDS Church in Salt Lake City has a huge problem of a Mormon version of the gang Crip.

They carry the Book of Mormon around with them and they shoot each other.

They have a Street Law that prevents them from killings or fighting each other when their wives/kids are with them because Family is held so highly in the LDS religion.

There is gang graffeti everywhere in SLC.

They have fights, drug dealing, killings, rape, robbery, etc. They call it their “Work”. They also force people to join their gang - they even have a name for it which I don’t recall.

They the gang members also go on LDS Missions - so be very careful about opening your door to LDS Missionaries!

Hi, I live in SLC. There is a lot of graffiti, especially in certain areas, but still nothing like you will find in larger US cities.

The gang members coming from Mormon backgrounds are in the Tongan Crips and the Baby Regulators. Newsweek had an article about this over ten years ago.

If any gang members have gone on LDS missions it is because they have straightened up their lives. “Found Jesus”, or in the case of Mormon, “Found Joseph”. That isn’t to say they didn’t return from a LDS mission and screw up with gang nonsense.

The Mormon church has put more stringent guidelines on who can be a missionary. Maybe a Mormon can answer if a criminal background check is now required, or not.

Mormon Crips…whats next Jehovah’s Witness Bloods? Hare Krishna Latin Kings?

These are probably what is called Jack-Mormons, who are not active in the LDS church, but carry LDS culture with them. Wouldn’t be surprised if they have some neo-Nazi characteristics, especially if they participate in the meth culture.

Good grief!!!

This is exactly why I hesitate when missionaries come to the door… I mean, my husband and I ussually invite them in to dialogue and share beliefs. We like to ask them questions and share our faith with them… But at the same time…I hesitate to even answer the door…because of the terrible stories such as these!

From what I looked up, theses gangs are formed out of active LDS members who are mostly newly immigrated Tongans.

I hope people don’t think that all Mormons are gang members. They aren’t. Most of them are good Christian people, trying to raise their children to be good citizens. There are gangs all over the place, especially in large cities. Chicago is one of the worse places in the US as far as crime and gangs go. You might even find Catholics who are gang members but that doesn’t mean that all Catholics are into that sort of thing.

Maybe, but they do carry around the Book of Mormon with them and they (the Mormons in prison for commiting crimes) say that they would go to meetings every week at their stake to meet up with the other gang members and plan their crimes.

No doubt many of them are good folk, but the Christian part, I don’t agree with.

I just got the mental picture of a couple of white kids in button-down white shirts doing a crip walk on the corner 😛 😃 🙂

I agree that you may find violent people in any religion… but what is frightening, is that the LDS and couple others in particular, choose to evangelize with a door to door ministry.

My husband and I ussually welcome people who are just trying to share their faith into our home… But stories such as these make me hesitate.

Just because you “might find catholics who are gang members” doesn’t mean you will have catholic gang members or catholics of any kind knocking on your door and putting you in this kind of dangerous position.

Mormon version of the Crip gang?..please allow me to :bigyikes::rotfl:

Should i anticipate news of the Mormon version of the Hispanic Mara Salvatrucha gang next?:rotfl:

Okay, i’m done. 🙂

Of course the Italian Mafia are not Catholics either…?

I think we all have our share of good and bad. Ever heard of someone shot with a rosary around their neck? Man, you gotta watch those Catholics.

Don’t let them in your house! Who knows what they would do?

Maybe molest your kids too!

Give me a break you guys! 😛 😃

nebula, you’ve been taken over by the dark side!

“active LDS members”? Yeah - sure – we’re going to kill you so that we can baptize you on the other side

Thats disgusting. Show some manners you have no idea who is reading this. It is a public forum and the victims of abuse might be reading.

I don’t think they’re saying that Mormons=bad people (which is what you seem to have taken from it) they are saying that on the whole Mormons have a reputation for being hard working, whiter than white, butter wouldn’t melt in their mouths, goody two shoes, clean living folk, and the idea of a Mormon street gang is ridiculous based on that idea of what a Mormon is.

While I normally am all for expressing the inherent flaws and evils of the Mormon religion…

But honestly! What are you possibly thinking with this!?!?!

So what if so called “mormons” are gang members; the LDS corporation does NOT support such organizations any more than the RCC does, yet you can see gang members running around with the Sacred Heart tatooed on themselves, or painted across the hood of their car they use for drive-bys…

or is it that the Mormons are Crips, while the Catholics are Bloods?

Get a grip, and use a little reason.

One’s supposed religion is often simply that of their family background, with no attempt to assimilate it within. There are plenty “born under the covenant” Mormons who have nothing to do with their religion (for positive or negative reasons, if reasoned at all), just as there are plenty of “cradle catholics” who haven’t seen the inside of a church since baptism…

While I wholeheartedly agree that the mormon missionary (and social) program is insidious in the worst possible manner, the sheer stupidity of insinuating that the LDS corporation is using gang members, as gang members, as their missionary force is, frankly, equally disturbing and shameful.

Ug!

(not that I have an opinion or anything…)

No offense meant.

I was responding to this quote from Ashleybelle:

"**Good grief!!!

It looked like this was the direction the discussion was headed. As I said, no offense meant.

Fair enough, sorry if I was a little blunt its just not a nice thing to read.
