I haven’t had time to read all the posts here, but I’ll say what scares me is the Mormon church. I moved out here to a small town in the SW that is dominated by Mormons, not in population numbers, but in key positions in every aspect of secular life.
Many say the same thing about the influence of freemasonry in certain areas. Funny thing, they both have temples and secret rituals that they can’t tell anybody about.
🤷

Ed,
Have you ever seen that show connecting the “new world order” and “all seeing eye” over the pyramid on the US dollar, the freemasons, and the early Mormon Church? Very interesting connections. My husband is ex-Mormon and he says the inside of the temples are covered in what appear to very VERY much like freemason symbols, and that ceremonies use actions and phrases that seem to be from something like Freemasonry(five points of fellowship, hammers, the square and compass, pentagrams, etc.) It is a known fact that in Missouri, Brigham Young joined the Freemasons and then shortly after was kicked out. According to the TV show, it was because he had tried to let in all of his Mormon congregation! (I can’t back that up, but wish I could!) My MIL totally denies this, but then she also denies that they are told Jesus is an alien polygamist. The fact that they are commanded to have at least a 1 year supply of food for their family at all times, stock up weapons to protect it, teach things such as the above statement about Jesus (and the Father too!) being a polygamist, have very specific structures for family life and roles, and focus on Doomsday, lead me to believe the NWO stuff. Their view of the afterlife is Heaven on Earth, literally, and all non-Mormons have been wiped out so they can have their paradise to themselves. Heavenly Father will recognize them by their secret handshakes and special underwear. A woman cannot enter this heaven unless she is married to an LDS man and they have several children and they are all “sealed” in a ceremony. Don’t believe me, check out their website, go to a few meetings (make sure you attend Sunday school and also swing by to see what the kids are taught too) read the BOM and Journal of Discourses journalofdiscourses.org/volume-2. Check out this website where ex-Mormons post about why they left. exmormon.org/
The best way to find out is to marry into a Mormon family, like I did, but I don’t recommend it for the weak of heart!

Admins, this thread has gone way off target. It started out as a book review request and has deteriorated into general debate about the LDS church. Consider closing or moving, please.

Sorry, how do I delete my last message? I’m not trying to cause trouble.

you see, this is why I am here. Instead of listening to all the **** about catholics from THOSE THAT AREN’T CATHOLIC, I choose to go to the horses mouth ! Unlike you that knows nothing of the LDS prcatices or beliefs yet you spew gossip and untruths ?? The things you have stated here are either untrue or out of context… I did not come here to bash catholics or others, but to ask questions, perhaps you should think about doing the same ?

I am not Mormon, but I am very informed about what exactly they practice. My boyfriend, close friends and some family membes are.

I can tell you right now, while some of the things you said of their beliefs are true, you have MANY things wrong.
I encourage you to actually study LDS beliefs, and stop using “a tv show” as a reference.

Please state what is “untrue” and what is “out of context” and why. I am not above being corrected in my errors. I chose the same way to learn about Mormons as you say you are about the CC–by asking actual Mormons. Also, I went to their church and am reading their doctrine. I live in a community where I am shunned because of my refusal to convert my children to LDS. I live this every day. I’m sure it looks different from the inside. It always does when your in the club, as opposed to an outsider. We can discuss this outside this forum if you like. I have noticed I upset a few by my comments. My isolation and fear is getting the best of me. Apologies.

The TV show was not my reference, I merely stated it was interesting, and it gave me some leads as to where to start researching. I NEVER take any TV show at face value. I also stated that I couldn’t back up some of it. Please read my message completely before jumping to conclusions.

I am here to talk with catholics and discuss catholicism… If you want to debate or learn LDS doctrine then you will have to find an LDS forum. but for starters they do not believe Jesus is an alien polygamist… :rotfl: And as for being shunned then you picked a bad community. I learned long ago that you can not judge a church by its people. Either the doctrine is sound and good or not. The people have nothing to do with it. I could say the same in regards to all the news about priest molestations ? They are human and still make the same mistakes as the other guy. Doesn’t mean that the doctrine is wrong ? There are some snuddier than others and you picked that neighborhood. Where are you if I may ask ?

Laugh all you want, but this IS a thread about LDS, and I’m not the first to talk about them outside the context of the book in here. Find out the facts for yourself is all I’m saying.
I didn’t “pick” this community either, my husband was having trouble finding a job after serving in the AF, and the only door open was the one here, in his home town (that’s private info as to specifics) because they assumed he was still a practicing Mormon. I had no idea what I was getting into before I came here, I just thought it was a great job opportunity for him and figured it would be a plus to be close to my kids grandparents. I guess “snuddier” means snooty, but it’s far beyond that. I agreed to delete my original post because it has incensed a few. I figured I’d have a sympathetic audience to vent my frustrations, but I was wrong.

Never go to a people’s enemies to find out about them. If you want to learn about Mormons, go to their official website www.lds.org. The misinformation about that religion is unbelievable.

enemies? sir/mam understand that the Catholic Church has never declared mormons as enemies nor has its Faithful members. We consider sin as an enemy entised by satan (enemy), developed and done by us (enemy). We are taught not to hate these enemies as well as hate anyone. some or maybe many fail at this, but any account of enemy is done so by lds it’self, as I am sure they do since I dated a mormon before. her family hated my guts, why? because they noted **me ** as enemy. just like any other Catholic…
after thus statement, please explain your statement further since there are actualy multiple of reasons towards such a sentece as well as meanings. I would not wish to say more until otherwise.

It has been stated that mormons believe; they may become a god or god like, jesus is a seperate person from god, God is of other beings, native americans are cursed, and multiple things as the such. are these false? are these statements wrong in the journals of once mormons, whom have converted to Catholicism?

I didn’t mean the Catholic church was the enemy. Do you want me to learn about Catholics from ex-Catholics who have agendas against their former religion, or faithful, practicing Catholics. Where will I more likely get an accurate description of what Catholics believe?

For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not believe, no explanation will suffice.

(Although the facts of the Catholic Church being Christ’s Church are undeniably astounding.)

As for me…I wish to be in the ship that sails through the two pillars- the tallest pillar with the Eucharist on it and the shorter one with the Virgin Mary upon it.

I realize how irresponsible my original post was, and would delete if I could figure out how. My opinion should not AND DOES NOT reflect that of the Catholic Church. This is not what I intended to do, but nonetheless got myself into on my own. I am no longer a full member of the CC, I haven’t been for over 20 years, and so PLEASE do not assume my silly opinion somehow reflects the general consensus here. On the contrary, I find most Catholics are quite charitable in their opinions of other religions. Please excuse me for I’ve been listening to a lot of LDS bashing others, especially Catholics, in this small town, and I lashed out. Horrible mistake. Surely they do not ALL treat others this way, and I don’t believe their church consciously teaches intolerance. For now, I will keep my opinions to myself, just listen, and try to learn and improve my so very imperfect self.
Peace.

You know probally the best way to go about this is, I am a Catholic, What does your Religion teach about …

Or I am a Mormon, what does your Religion teach about…

And I guess if we do it that way, we can’t accuse, or fight about it. Because it always get’s out of hand, and I will step up to the plate and be the first to confess I become defensive when someone lies about my faith.

But the main thing is really to learn what we differ and why. I know no one will ever make me become a Mormon, And I know i can’t convert them, don’t want to. But it would be nice to at least know what each other believes. Instead of saying you Catholics do this and that, and vice-versa.

I doubt they teach their members to be intolerant, it would hurt their evangelizing. But their scripture is very anti-Catholic. Read Mea Culpa’s post #4. Yup, Catholicism was founded by the devil. It’s hard for people to come to terms with each other if one religion attacks the other so ferociously.
For now, I will keep my opinions to myself, just listen, and try to learn and improve my so very imperfect self.

Don’t feel too bad. It usually happens to all new posters. Heck, I still get out of line way too often. Don’t get discouraged.

Thanks Ed,
I would like to ask a question of any LDS that may be watching: Is it true that the LDS Church teaches Catholics are idol worshipers and Mary worshipers? If not, would you agree that this is a common idea among the members of the church? I hear it whenever one of my in laws wants to take a good dig at me. I’ve also heard it at an LDS sacrament meeting and in line at Walmart from strangers.
To Catholics:
Are these accusations true? If not, please explain how they are not.
Thank you

Are the accusations that the LDS think that Catholics are Mary worshipers? Yes, that’s true. They do think that. A LDS missionary I was talking to suddenly begain yelling at me (yes, I said yelling) about that. (I don’t think that I was supposed to be yelled at because the guys partner didn’t seem all too happy about it and they both promptly left.) But it only stands to reason–the LDS got much of their doctrine from Protestant sources that have anti-Catholic thoughts–that we are idol worshipers and Mary worshipers. Afterall, Joseph Smith, their founder, was once a Protestant, it has long been known that many LDS teachings are simply Protestant teachings prevalent in the 1800s, and even their primary resouce book, Talmages’ The Great Apostasy relies very heavily on some anti-Catholic historians in order to support his claim that the Catholic Church became totally corrupted in the early centuries.

Seekdatruth - you ask if Catholics worship statues. No. I am a Catholic and I do not worship statues. I do have statues of St. Francis in my garden…I do have several statues of Christ in our home as well as Our Blessed Mother Mary. From time to time I look at them as I do all the different articles in our home. Photographs, paintings, works of art.

Do they help me in my prayer life? Yes - for I can look at a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and pray more deeply and (sometimes) without all the usual distractions. I have a terrible time with distractions.

The Catholic Faith teaches against idolatry, and if we worshipped statues, we would be sinning.

Hope that helps.
