Perhaps what I am not understanding is this… if your CCC says one thing , and it is suppose to be the complete and final word on a doctrine that you must always turn to, then how can the newest Pope say something contrary and still be right ? Or how can he take away something that a previous pope installed and still be right ?

If the CCC says that infants are entrusted to God for his mercy and saving Grace then why all fuse with infant baptism in the first place ? The Popes have teedered back and forth on this issue with one saying yes and now again saying no but what they say makes no differece since the CCC says the final word ?

So throughout all of the different rites and different Popes, the church can claim that their has never been anything contrary to the original church taught because what the individuals and Popes do makes no difference it doesn’t count if the CCC says something else ? Am I getting it right ?
I am new to this thread and I have read your posts to this one. I must respond and ask you some rather pointed questions.

First, have you ever participated in an organization or been a part of an organization that has lasted for several generations? If so, you know there are differances between policy and sometimes the day-to-day practice, even if it does not make it right. I am not saying the churches doctrine changes but the way it is viewed at any time over history changes because while we are Christs church we are made up of humans.

WE DO NOT CLAIM TO BE INFALLABE.

We are made up of humans, humans have different levels of knowledge in 2008 than in the first century-would you expect everything to be the same? We are not a church of literal bible interpretation, we are not protestant.

Your posts indicate several things, first a desire to question our religion which is ok, but by searching out our failures and asking why these occurred. It is as if you are the protestant who says but noone expects the spanish inquisition not knowing that there were very few, less than 200 in almost 2 centuries, protestants involved in the inqusition, and who fails to acknowledge that torture while not generally an admired activity was a very common one used by goverments, police, military etc in those times.

church practice has evolved over the years as human knowledge and activity has changed, church dogma has stayed the same.

We also have theories within our doctrines, not dogma that are not dogma and sometimes change because we dont claim to have the answes to those particular areas. That does not mean we dont search out the answers or that we are not at times inspired but public phophicies etc ended with John.

You remain or return to the papal infallability question- search out when it occurs under what circumstances and how many times it has been used over the history of the church.

To this date have you read the CCC as you have been referred to?

Do you understand the churches position on free will? Even catholics have free will and can choose to live outside God’s law, I for one make mistakes and sin on almost a daily basis.

Why the fasicination with the shortcomings of the church and its failures? Do you believe there is a church or ever has been a church with members who were perfect?

What religion do you belong to?

Do you understand the church’s teaching on faith?

truthfully i stopped reading when i saw someone say that the mormons don’t read the bible or use it at all. that isn’t true.

i’m not defending their religion, i know a lot about it, and i have some thoughts about it that i won’t share here - i’ve also put up with my share of discrimination from them, living here behind the zion curtain as a “non-member.” but is it constructive to sit here on a catholic site and talk about how bad they are? prolly not 😉
OK, yes, I agree that just sitting around talking bad about others is bad for the soul, absolutely. I speak out because I have concerns about how Catholics are targeted as potential converts to Mormonism here. There are LDS (or claim to be) here that attempt to mislead Catholics or those “on the fence”. Trying to lure them in with promises like the potential to be gods, celestial marriage bonds, a safe haven during the Apocalypse, and a church that is supposed to be the most righteous. Not only does tricking or coercing people into converting not do them any good, but it seems as if the person converted isn’t there for the right reason either. When I attended the LDS church services, I can tell you it was more about getting “sealed” and these celebrities called prophets, than it was about Jesus Christ being our Savior. It says in the Holy Bible, KJV, NSV, etc, all except for the D&C that marriage is not relevant in Heaven. There we become one with God in his eternal light. Of course, on earth we must do unto others and care for the weak because “whatsoever you do unto the least of my children, you do unto me”. It’s the big audition, the trial, we certainly hope and pray and do the best we can to help others find their way home to God, but in the end all of us are one with God, and so bonds on earth are irrelevant. It seems enticing for those of us who have lost loved ones, but why speculate that we will automatically loose touch with them in the afterlife if we do not pay for and perform a ceremony in a temple here on earth? That’s kind of like “limbo”, but it’s not really doctrine in the CC, because we just don’t know. We entrust them to God’s care and leave it at that. No need to worry about what He hasn’t revealed. It seems to me that Mormonism is a distraction from God’s truth, not to say none there can be saved, but surely it must be difficult. I pray for God’s mercy on their souls.

There is redemption outside the Church:)
Indeed and Thank and Praise God:D

The real question that needs to be asked (by them as I know the answer) is: is (gosh I sound like Bill Clintion), is there salvation as we Chrsitians KNOW it, outside of Christinity, IF they have had the opportunity to know “The Way, The Truth and The Light?”

I am speaking of places like America and Europe:shrug:

Hmmmm…

God blessings,

Didn’t the Pope comment on that recently? I think it’s in Scripture too, but I have to go look it up. Something about people who are ignorant of God’s truth can still be righteous, but it’s much harder. Surely, He has mercy on innocents, yet we-- those who know, have the responsibility to*** teach*** as best we can to ensure our own salvation and theirs. We are still our “brother’s keeper”. However, attempting to force or coerce others gets us nowhere either.

i know that they lure people with such promises. but they are luring people who are LOOKING for becoming gods and so forth. they are easy prey for neo-paganism as well 😦

inasmuch as they might convert some of our confused members, we get some of theirs too. my fiance is one of them. 😃 also i know a catholic priest who was raised LDS, had even gone on a mission… 👍

Some of the people that are lured were not looking to become gods. Some had just (unfortunately) fallen in love with a LDS guy, and he used that to drag her away from the truth so he could be sealed in their temple with her and so be “on track” to become a god. (I know. That’s what happened to my daughter. And it is still coercion and immoral.)

i agree, it’s wrong 😦

and yes, their salvation or ability to get into their highest heaven relies on being sealed/married in the temple. there’s no godhood for the single folks i guess 🤷

my daughter is with a mormon guy but they don’t practice either religion. my fiance and i take my grandbaby to mass every week and i’m getting her baptized catholic this month. i figure if they are letting me bring her to the catholic church, she should be baptized, i hate this notion of letting kids “choose” a religion when they get older. that’s like letting them wander into a dark forest so they can “choose” their own path home. 😦

😦 Did you know that most Mormons that stay Mormons were brought up since they were born,to believe that way ? and most of their parents were also. All we can do is let others know and pray for our love ones, that they will come out of her and do not be partakers of her sins. I pray for all to come to the knowledge and that God will guide them home, also my grandaughter,in Jesus name Amen. Nancy

I did 7689 grains of rice I ment to tell you Nancy, was that good?🙂

I believe they can be, and for two reasons.

First, if Zerinus and the others posting here are any indication, mormons are unaware of their own ideology and pantheology and are thus clueless but well intentioned, and;
My dear friend Robert,

Jesus allows us to judge by there motives right? Right!

America, and Eupope for that matter “are the lands of religious opportunity.” As evidienced by the number of confessed / professed Mormons on this Forum, there is ample opportinity to learn the truth. Keeping in mind, that common sense dictates that there can only be a single truth for every issue, or there are no truths ever. Because 1+1= 2, we can no that this is TRUE.

God who is a Loving and Merciful God alway’s, and in every case provides sufficient grace and sufficient opportunity to every single person on planet earth to be saved. Darm few take advantage of it!

“Many are called, few are chosen,” and “Enter through the narrow gate.” Gives evidence of this fact. One has to do more than simply believe what they choose to believe to be Saved! At a minimum, they MUST, MUST, 1. Believe in the truth of Jesus Christ as true man and true God. 2. They must receice a Chrsitian Baptism of water. 3. They must live the Christian Faith and follow at a minimum The Commandments.

They cannot be saved by baptism of desire or blood, when they have the opportunity to be Baptized with Water and the Holy Spirit, and chose not to.

Thus, it is in God’s hands… SEE MY NEXT COMMENT.
Second, God’s ways are merciful. And this trumps ‘holy underwear’ and ‘temple ceremonies.’ Robert
Robert my guess by this comment suggest to me that either you are a convert to Catholism, or quite a bit younger than my 64 years? Why do I say this?

It is common theology in a GREAT many Chrsitian churches to stress God’s love and mercy. This stems from there ERRANT believe that all that is necessary to be “saved” is “to believe on Jesus Christ, and be baptized.”

That is certainly were to start, but in MOST cases it will not be sufficient to gain one Salvation, if they do not also Obey God’s Commandments (all of them), demonistrate love and charity, and live there faith.

They choose to either omit or forget that God possesses all attributes and all attributes to there fullest potential. We might say God is "All Everything Good."

So let me ask you; is JUSTICE good? Indeed it is, so God has to be, MUST be, has NO CHOICE to be ALL JUST!

If God provides ample grace and opportunity to EVERYONE 9and He does), and they for what ever reasons do not take advantage of them, guess what: God’s JUSTICE WILL TRUMP God’s Love and Mercy. If this were not the single truth, then God simply would not be God:thumbsup:

So only God knows for sure, but judging from there actions, it seems highly unlikely!

God bless,
PJM m.c.

To Jean8 I’m sorry but you must be thinking I condone Mormonism,I dont in fact I’ve left the message to all who are confused about it. Rennie asked for more information about their belife,so I gave the site where you can get a book and see for yourself, about how foney they realy are. I hope I"ve explained it to you ok?EPH:5:11 love you Nancy:)
nancy,
thank you for your reply. I’m very happy to hear your not a Mormon. We must pray for them.
To those who are confused about their doctrine, here is one item for the ladies to think about. 🙂

“Mormon women will give birth to spirit babies forever and ever.”
Doesn’t that sound like fun?
Sex in the here-after, where ever that is for Mormons. ?

:highprayer: After having 4 children here on earth I’m looking forward to peace and relaxation, and the opening of new books to learn from,a singing, and music career.I asked the Lord for a beautifull harp:harp: so I can worship him with music. If he gives me anything, even a small crown I would leave it at his feet.all I want is to be there, even if I was a door stopper any position, the very least I’ll take for all he"s done for me. Love of Christ Nancy

Oh, but those who knowingly choose to reject Him are condemned.
The question should read ‘Mormonisn from a Christian perspective.’
No Chriatian believes the Mormon doctrine. It was written by Joseph Smith and Brigham Young.
Mormons really believe some bazaar things.
This one comes to mind.
“Heavenly Father is an exalted man who lives with his goddess wife, ‘Heavenly Mother’ on a planet near the great star Kolob.”
Another is “God the Father had sex with Mary to conceive Jesus and his half brother, Lucifer.”
Look up Mormonism on the net. It’s good to be informed.

God bless,
jean8
