My answer to that is, “too bad”. The soul of the dead don’t belong to anybody than to the dead. If they don’t believe that our baptisms for the dead have any effect, why should they care? If the aborigines of Amazon jungle decided to do tribal dances for my dead to save their souls, and I don’t believe that it means anything, why should I care? If that is their tradition, I would say let them do it. It makes no difference to me whether they do or not. I don’t own my ancestors’ souls. God gave them their souls, and they are in the hands of God to do what He wishes with their souls.

Paul and Rebecca have great insight into how ‘mormonism’ really works. This is what we cradle Catholics need to understand in order to better approach these poor souls in need of witness.

I joined the mormons in 1990 and officially left in 2000. I dragged my whole immediate family with me into that mess. We were tithe-paying, card-carrying members. I was homemaking counselor and my husband was bishop’s secretary. our sundays were spent at the stake center or out visiting inactive members. i attended institute and my kids seminary. when we moved and got away from our mormon neighbors, one by one we all came to the realization we had been duped. it was like a light had been turned on and suddenly we realized that so much of what we had been taught was ridiculous. it was almost as if we had been living in a hypnotized state and only by getting away were we able to break loose. many letters and phone calls later, i think we are all off the rolls of the ‘church’. i still worry about it sometimes though. they gave us such a hard time, i wouldn’t put it past them to have lied still more.

I said it months ago, ignore zerinus, do not give him a forum for his lies. He is not here to share his belief so much as he is here to prosyletise(sp) and berate those who disagree with him(everybody but mcmullen) People keep responding to him, I guess in the hope of somehow reaching his thick intellect, which only encourages him to further excesses. If everyone would simply ignore his posts, he would not achieve that childish satisfaction that he craves so much.

I guess I see in him my failed attempts to get my brother and his family out of the cult. They, like zerinus, quote the same old tired answers they are taught to memorize. I will remember him daily in my Rosary and continue to ask St. Monica for her intercession as I feel a kinship to him through my understanding of how he has been indoctrinated.

He shows zero interest in discussing logically without slinging mud–his perverse use of the dog/vomit scripture against another member is a key example, and quite appalling.

The real problem with the LDS claims is that there is not any valid historical or Biblical evidence for their false theory of the great apostasy. I was raised Mormon, married in a temple, blah blah blah. I converted to Catholicism 8 years ago. I am now a youth minister and a part time apologist. I refuse to talk about anything with the missionaries (or my mormon friends/family) until they can give some kind of credible evidence for the great apostasy. Unfortunately, they cannot. They will try to twist scripture, re-write/interpret history (if they even are aware of the early church writings, which most of them are not) or “bear their testimony” to me that they know it is true because of spiritual heartburn. They are also famous for accusing people of “persecuting” them the minute someone disagrees with thier beliefs and proves them wrong. Unfortunately, most LDS missionaries or friends/family of mine don’t end up spending too much time talking to me. Too bad. I guess they believe perceived feelings are more important than the promises of Christ.
