Unbelievable!!!Not quite but it sounds good if true. The lds leaders were and are living among the people. And as such they were human. I don’t see pope benedict out among the people giving local speeches in churches. His words are carefully scripted and chosen. In the mormon faith, leaders say many things and many things get twisted. But scriptural change is not fashionable in mormonism.

It is only in connection with doctrinal authority as such that, practically speaking, this question of infallibility arises; that is to say, when we speak of the Church’s infallibility we mean, at least primarily and principally, what is sometimes called active as distinguished from passive infallibility. We mean in other words that the Church is infallible in her objective definitive teaching regarding faith and morals, not that believers are infallible in their subjective interpretation of her teaching. This is obvious in the case of individuals, any one of whom may err in his understanding of the Church’s teaching; nor is the general or even unanimous consent of the faithful in believing a distinct and independent organ of infallibility. Such consent indeed, when it can be verified as apart, is of the highest value as a proof of what has been, or may be, defined by the teaching authority, but, except in so far as it is thus the subjective counterpart and complement of objective authoritative teaching, it cannot be said to possess an absolutely decisive dogmatic value. It will be best therefore to confine our attention to active infallibility as such, as by so doing we shall avoid the confusion which is the sole basis of many of the objections that are most persistently and most plausibly urged against the doctrine of ecclesiastical infallibility.ACTUALLY,
Whenever Pope Benedict gives his speeches they are directly from God. He has Infallibility
For a definition…
newadvent.org/cathen/07790a.htm#IIIB
NO one Makes up his speeches and gives them to the Pope.
This is what ticks me off Why Me. You try to say your a fence sitter when you are 100% Mormon.
The pope can be a normal guy but when he gives his speeches he has Infallibility. Thats why we don’t need Magazines with speeches of people -who give errors
Fellow Catholics if I have this idea wrong in some way please point it out thanks!
or you could read in sacred loneliness by todd compton and see JS true character.A good start would be Rough Stone Rolling by Richard Bushman. It is the definitive biography of Joseph Smith published in 2005 by Knopf. You will see JS as a rather different human being when you read that biography.
i consider them , like most televangelists, to be sales weasels cashing in on God. I strongly disapprove of what they do.Of course it is rather easy to refer to all faiths out of the mainstream to be a cult but that doesn’t make it true. What about Joyce Meyer and Joel Osteen? Are they also cult leaders? They certainly pack them in when they come to town.
This viewpoint is condemned as absolutely false by both the mormon and th catholic churches. if that is truly what you believe then you need to find a new church. This certainly isn’t what jesus taught in the bible. All faiths have high points and low points in their history. But what matters is just where a person can get closer to god. If catholicism does it, fine. If mormonism does it, fine. If the UU does it, fine.
But I see no perfection in any faith.
thank you steph. That is what I was trying to say hahaIt is only in connection with doctrinal authority as such that, practically speaking, this question of infallibility arises; that is to say, when we speak of the Church’s infallibility we mean, at least primarily and principally, what is sometimes called active as distinguished from passive infallibility. Infallibility must be carefully distinguished both from Inspiration and from Revelation.
The claim made by us of infallibility is not that the POPE himself is not a human being, but that when he speaks of doctrinal issues, his words are infallible if he claims it thus. There have only been a few times in history that a Pope has declared what he is speaking as infallible. He is not perfect, only Jesus is. The Pope does not claim nor have they ever that by the fact that they are Pope, that they are perfect. I think this is why so many have had a misunderstanding of who the Pope is and why his office is so important to us as Christians.
Does that make sense?

whatever. we can all see the truth. the LDS leaders use scripted speeches and what is wrong with that? they want to get the words right. I applaud that. The Holy Father spends a lot of time speaking to and with the people. please remember there are over a billion catholics spread all over the world. so he can’t just travel around utah , idaho, arizona, california and be done with it. if you don’t believe the changes in LDS scriptures then you must not read LDS history. You can easily find older versions and see the doctrinal changes. Not quite but it sounds good if true. The lds leaders were and are living among the people. And as such they were human. A couple of levels below cult maybe?i consider them , like most televangelists, to be sales weasels cashing in on God. I strongly disapprove of what they do.
…What. the whole BoM is a change to Holy Scriture. Not quite but it sounds good if true. The lds leaders were and are living among the people. And as such they were human. The Book of Mormon is an addition to Holy Scripture.…What. the whole BoM is a change to Holy Scriture.
So I’ve heard. I’ve seen the commercials “another testament of Jesus Christ”. I just Don’t find that to be true. I find that it is the work of a man to found a religion. Kinda like the quran, Its like God said oh yea I forgot to tell them this. I just don’t buy it.The Book of Mormon is an addition to Holy Scripture.

I’m not referring to Mormonism as a cult. I’m referring to the sociologists who refer to it as a cult. As for Joyce Meyer and Joel Osteen, do you want my opinion? From what I’ve read, I believe that the researchers who research their stance on major Christian doctrines refer to them that way. As “Christian cult leaders.”Of course it is rather easy to refer to all faiths out of the mainstream to be a cult but that doesn’t make it true. What about Joyce Meyer and Joel Osteen? Are they also cult leaders? They certainly pack them in when they come to town.
Also try “No Man Knows My History” by Fawn Brodie. It is very well researched. In fact it was so accurate that she got excommunicated for writing it.A good start would be Rough Stone Rolling by Richard Bushman. It is the definitive biography of Joseph Smith published in 2005 by Knopf. You will see JS as a rather different human being when you read that biography.
Same with D Michael Quinn…ex’d for writing the truth. For non-mormons, excommunication in mormon terms means you are kicked out of the church, and all former sacraments are made null and void. If for some strange reason you wanted back in, you have to be baptized again. Also try “No Man Knows My History” by Fawn Brodie. It is very well researched. In fact it was so accurate that she got excommunicated for writing it.

You do realize, don’t you, that when the GAs speak at General Conference they are reading from a teleprompter? Those speeches are submitted to-, and edited and approved by the 1st Presidency before they are presented at General Conference. Same with the articles in the Ensign. Anything said in either of these venues is not a slip of the tongue, but an official statement of Church doctrine and policy. According to Brigham Young’s teaching they are scripture every bit as much as the bible. Not quite but it sounds good if true. The lds leaders were and are living among the people. I have a friend who does translation into Indonsian for the mormon church. He receives nearly all of the talks one week before conferences (general, priesthood, women’s, etc). He then spends the week translating them into English, so that he is prepared. During the actual conference, he listens to the speaker and translates as they speak, because sometimes, they change what was given to him.You do realize, don’t you, that when the GAs speak at General Conference they are reading from a teleprompter? The lds prophet also belongs to a ward. When he is in town, he goes to his ward. Likewise for the other general authorities. But most of the time, they are traveling around visiting wards and branches throughout the world. They are certainly not cloistered in the temple.why me,

One could read many books about JS. But the fact remains that books about JS usually have an agenda. And they are written by men and women who hare very fallible. I have read on the Internet about former members who read this book or that book and suddenly there eyes became ‘open’ and they left the lds church. If a book causes someone to leave their faith, well, I can say that their faith was not very strong to begin with. I would say the same for catholics who left their faith because of a book.or you could read in sacred loneliness by todd compton and see JS true character.
How about early mormonism and the magic world view by Michael Quinn? that will show you much about the origin of momronism.
