Mormonism; there are many ways of proving it wrong.

Stephen,
I can understand why the “Mormon understanding of baptism” would seem irrational to you, but it is completely rational and completely in accordance with the New Testament. It is a plain doctrine in the New Testament, not obscure at all. It didn’t need to be re-defined by anyone or to be explained to be something other than what the New Testament says it means and says why it is to be administered and received.
So you know the Mormon understanding is irrational, too. God is rational. The Mormon understanding of baptism is wrong and not ‘completely’ in accordance with the New Testament.

I love bald statements. I mean, they are so…clear headed. Or something.

Elder ParkerD, go proselyte somewhere else.
Well…ummmm…if a so called catholic did not start this thread to bash mormons and mormonism Parker would not be here. Now that is something to contemplate as you attempt to avoid mormons in Utah…😉

(laughing really hard…)

I had NO idea that Star Fleet Academy was a division of the University of Utah. 😉

Never mind… Nurse Chapell, is a USU grad…and Spock? Doctorates from ALL THREE BYU campuses.

So there.
Why would he go to BYU Idaho? Was he looking to marry a returned missionary?

Please notice that a Mormon is bashing the Catholic church in order to facilitate his Mormon proselyting.

What does UT have to do with your inability to defend your so-called faith.

Zundrah,
I suppose you realize that by posting the way you are on this website, including this entire thread and the statement above, that the person you most seem to be trying to convince is yourself. You will never be able to fully convince yourself of this statement, because deep down you realize that the New Testament and Catholicism don’t have a one-to-one comparative relationship, and the fact that “something has changed” is an indication that “something changed at some point in time to bring about these changes.”

Have a peaceful day.
PS: Please show the mormon church in the Early Church. Baker’s hat and white trousers with green aprons…please. How about, secret handshakes of Freemasons? Secret oathes to slit one’s own throat. Show me where polygamy was practiced by the Apostles. How about, the Eucharist being changed to a form of nothing…Wonderbread and tap water? Every 12 year old boy ordained as a deacon? A CEO-like president with two counselors?

Or maybe, you could show the existence of these things in pre-Columbian cultures? Anywhere?

You need to get a grip on reality. The ABSENCE of these things is not an indicator they were ever practiced, let alone LOST. It is an indicator they never existed.

Maybe a website that shows they were delivered by space aliens.

The faith of conspiracy theories.

Errors in the “most correct book ever written”
Bible: In the King James version of the bible, Isaiah 4:5 uses the word “defence” where it should use “canopy”. It was incorrectly translated by King James scholars from the word “chuppah”.

Book of Mormon: II Nephi 14:5 plagiarizes this verse and makes the same mistake, saying “defence” instead of “canopy”.

Bible: Isaiah 2:9 “And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not.”

Book of Mormon: II Nephi 12:9 “And the mean man boweth not down, and the great man humbleth himself not, therefore, forgive him not.”

In the actual context of the Bible, the men were bowing down to idols and not God(Isaiah 2:8), that is why they aren’t forgiven. Joseph Smith must have been confused by that line, so he changed it. In the Book of Mormon then, it says not to forgive those who refuse to worship idols.

They don’t call it BY Woo for nothing…

🙂
Many of the women with whom I worked had gone there (when it was still Ricks) and almost all got their MRS degree. Of course, this is not a uniquely LDS thing at all in case someone (Parker) thinks I am bashing.

Eh…not a bit. It’s something common to many different faiths and groups, especially forty to fifty years ago.

Things have changed a bit. Oh, not that getting married isn’t important any more; it most certainly is!

But the emphasis is on the 'get the degree and get married," not “get married and then put him through school.”

For both the guys and the girls. At least that’s what my daughters tell me. All three of them. 😉

It still does not change the fact that a catholic started this thread and mormons are naturally responding. It is not Parker’s fault that he is responding to this thread by defending his religion. Now if the so called catholic did not start this thread, Parker would not be here.

Now I can say that no true catholic with mercy and charity in their heart would start such a thread. And no catholic with mercy and charity in their heart would support such a thread.

And there no ways to prove it wrong. And that is why it is still around.

You should not presume to judge what is in people’s hearts and worry about what is in your own.

Rick,
Canopy can be synonymous for “defence”:

“shall be a defence”
chuppah (khoop-paw’)
a canopy – chamber, closet, defence.

The negative in the phrase describing the verbs in Isaiah 2:9 can be spread over the entire verse and actually make more sense.

I’m always amazed and amused at how Mormons try to cover their tracks.

Like, we can’t see the golden plates because the angel took them back. Well, he left them in the ground for a thousand years so what’s the hurry? They weren’t even locked up! Anybody could have found them and where would have that put Joseph Smith? The LDS would have a different prophet! Maybe Buck Owens!

According to the Mormons, they had to be taken back to protect them from thiefs or something to that nature and here is the important part, to test our faith to believe in something we’ve never seen. Funny, why didn’t God remove all the bible documents and the Dead Sea Scrolls and many other things? Why does He only test our faith when it comes to the Mormon Church? Now I can go (with permission) and actually see the Dead Sea Scrolls and many other things, but not the golden plates. For that I must have faith!

And since they have “Real” apostles, then they should be able to do all sorts of healings and raising of the dead. But when asked about it they say the miracles are to be kept secret. In the Catholic Church, all miracles are open to scrutiny from doctors of all faiths and no faiths. So again, when it comes to the Mormon church, we are expected to have faith. We are not allowed to see any evidence of golden plates, miracles from real life apostles or anything that is evidence. Same with believing the BOM. Again, their statement indicates that if you don’t believe it then you didn’t have faith!

That’s Amazing.

Rick,
Mormons believe that God actually had a plan when He organized this earth, including a plan about how He would send humankind to earth from their pre-mortal life and allow them to grow by making their own choices in all kinds of areas in life, including religious choices. Why would God defeat His purpose by “proving” using tangible mortal proofs, what choice people should make? How limited do you think God is? The Bible’s existence has not resulted in only one church. People have a vast number of choices they can make about religion. They can have all of their own reasons. They can listen to all sorts of opinions and “experts”.

But when it comes to real spiritual knowledge, the kind that is irrefutable by mortal means because it did not come from a mortal source, then God has promised to be involved and is willing to be involved, ready to be involved, and will not be defeating His purpose to be involved. He is anxious to be involved, but as noted by Isaiah in the verse you quoted from Isaiah 2:9, He will only be involved if those doing the searching and the asking are humble, and do not follow the beliefs and practices of the world at large around them.
