That’s because, in the main, they don’t deserve response. Your posts verge on troll hood.

Personally, I almost wish you were right about that marriage thing. I have five children and only one of them is married. If the rule is as you claim, I’d have two more sons-in-law, two daughters-in-law and maybe some grandchildren. Alas, however, I do not.

Come to think of it, if you were correct, my brother would also be married right now instead of taking up space in my guestroom.

Dang. I guess I’ll just go ask the general authorities what they were thinking of; don’t they know that you have to get married if you are going to be a member of the church?

I have no sense of humor. All know this.

I will never be a God.
Troll… :rotfl:

  • the exact opposite of what you attempt to do right now!
May I humbly remind you, Zundrah, that I didn’t slam your beliefs, or ridicule you, or cast aspersions upon your personal faith, intelligence or honesty.

That…would have been you.

If your idea of ‘befriending’ Mormons is to do as you have done here, that is, come in with all guns blazing and “CULT” (complete with multiple annoying emoticons" at the top of your lungs, it doesn’t surprise me much that you aren’t received with cries of gladness and good fellowship.

…and I find that I am falling into my old, worst habit. I’m feeding a troll. (sigh) I have GOT to learn to stop that.

All anyone must do, and you might be encouraged to do so yourself, is review your own initial posts on this forum. One will quickly find that this appears to be a case of the pot calling the kettle black.😉

There is a difference between ‘getting along’ and agreeing on key doctrinal matter. I love my LDS brothers and sisters as much as I love my Catholic ones, but that doesn’t mean I need to accept their teachings as truth.

Peter 3:15-16
Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope,
but do it with gentleness and reverence, keeping your conscience clear, so that, when you are maligned, those who defame your good conduct in Christ may themselves be put to shame. (emphasis added)

Ah, but I think you do! 😉

That question is very clearly answered in the Book of Mormon.

Alma 40:

11 Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection—Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life.

12 And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow.

13 And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of the wicked, yea, who are evil—for behold, they have no part nor portion of the Spirit of the Lord; for behold, they chose evil works rather than good; therefore the spirit of the devil did enter into them, and take possession of their house—and these shall be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping, and wailing, and gnashing of teeth, and this because of their own iniquity, being led captive by the will of the devil.

14 Now this is the state of the souls of the wicked, yea, in darkness, and a state of awful, fearful looking for the fiery indignation of the wrath of God upon them; thus they remain in this state, as well as the righteous in paradise, until the time of their resurrection.

Not according to LDS theology. Spirits are very much alive and conscious of their einvironment as we are. In fact, acording to LDS doctrine, spirits are very much like us, in perfect human form, and interact and socialize with each other just as we do. For example, when Jesus appeared to the Brother Jared in the Book of Mormon (before His incarnation), He appeared in a perfect human form, so much so that the Brother Jared expected Him to have flesh and blood like us:

Ether 3:

15 And never have I showed myself unto man whom I have created, for never has man believed in me as thou hast. Seest thou that ye are created after mine own image? Yea, even all men were created in the beginning after mine own image.

16 Behold, this body, which ye now behold, is the body of my spirit; and man have I created after the body of my spirit; and even as I appear unto thee to be in the spirit will I appear unto my people in the flesh.

When Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection, at first they were frightened, thinking that they had seen a spirit. But He replied to them: “Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have” (Luke 24:39). So a spirit is in perfect human form; he/she just doesn’t have a physical body like us; but has a spiritual body that in every other respedct looks like us, which enables them to interact with one another and with their (spiritual) environmemt very much the same as we do.

That is what “hell” does in LDS thoelogy. You call it Purgatory, we call it hell. In either case it is a place of punishment or chastisement, until the penalty has been paid and the sinner has been “purged” of his sins.

Yes; and a lot of other things besides!
I must admit, the Mormon afterlife seems more merciful than the Catholic one!

…feed the trolls, feed the trolls, …I’m not hungry thank you! 🍿🍕

This thread was called - Catholics and Mormons get along fine… Well as much as Muslims and Christians get along fine, I guess you are nearly there.
Sad?..yes it is sad. I am also sad that I cannot befriend a Mormon with out being nagged about Joseph Smith all the time. In my view, Christ is more important. I guess you Mormons just forget that don’t you?
Ahem… by this quote I was talking about my actual friend who is Mormon! …I wasn’t referring to you. But that sounds harsh doesn’t it? :o She always gets on my case about how the catholic church is wrong and I must come to her Mormon temples with her. She has been a missionary at the LDS church since 1974! And her father in law has been bishop over their local unit not once but twice!
I’ve been a bit of a meanie to you, haven’t I? I was only joking with you so don’t take any offense to what I say.
The funny thing is that she use to mail me scriptures from the book of Mormon and say that they were from the bible! She tried to brain wash me…but I caught her out by mailing them to my ministers because I couldn’t understand them any way. :rotfl:

I will say to you, have a good week end and don’t let the trolls bite. 😛

P.S. I think that you do have a sense of humor, that’s why I stayed on this thread!😃
I have noticed now that Mormons are exceptionally calm and passive!

Of course not.

…and I don’t believe that anyone is asking this; at least, not on the LDS side (well, not while we are working community events and charitable causes, anyway; get the respective missionaries involved, though–and, well…

The thing is, you do NOT have to believe that Joseph Smith is a prophet to allow us to contribute food to CAtholic charities…and that’s a very good thing, because the LDS and the Catholics have worked together in that sort of thing for many years now. We do NOT have to believe in the immaculate conception in order to work with Catholic Charities to get aid to people who don’t allow Mormons in, or where the Catholic Charities is better organized and better able to distribute our stuff. We don’t have to agree with you to respect you.

We, however, keep running into the flip side of that; people insist, before they will work with us or accept aid from us, that we agree with them. They even insist that we agree, or admit, that we are lesser beings (not “Christian”) for instance, before they will deign to take our money.

Y’know, that gets real old. We aren’t asking that you convert, y’know. At least, not while we are feeding hungry people together, anyway. 😉

er…I’m 'calm and passive?"

Dang.

I’m slipping.

I left something out, and my leaving that out was a fault. I should have said that only here have I found this level of disdain from Catholics. Frankly, in ‘real life,’ I don’t get this level of antagonism from Catholics at all, nor do I find a whole lot of it on other forums–from Catholics.
In “real life” I don’t think I have ever met such confrontational and defensive non-Catholics. Then again, you said it yourself that this is not “real life.” It’s an internet forum where people are essentially anonymous. There will always be those who abuse that situation. Sadly, Catholics are not above the fray simply because they are Catholic.

I expect it from Protestant evangelicals. Of course, many of them are convinced that the fires of hell will fill the universe, save for one small island of bliss–and they are fine with that, as long as they have really good seats for the really hot show.
The fact that you seem to think that some higher code of conduct should apply to Catholics is, in a way, a sort of compliment - i.e. “I expected better from the Catholics.” Why is that?

Peace,
Robert

I expected better for two reasons:

First, because Catholics are treated very much the same way Mormons are in usenet forums, websites and other ‘real life’ areas. It looks very much to me that the folks that go after us ALSO go after you. “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” sort of thing.

Second, I expected better because in general Catholics do behave better. Past behavior predicts future behavior, most of the time.

Maybe you never even read these ones, no?

Matthew 10:

40 He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

41 He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.

Luke 10:

16 He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.

John 13:

20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

Matthew, Luke and John aren’t talking about Mormons.

The only thing in the Bible that refers to Joseph Smith is “false prophet”.
Jesus was also called “Beelzebub”. His counsel to his disciples was:

Matthew 5:

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Jesus was not found guilty in a court of law of using occultic seer stones to search for treasure.

No. He was found guilty of…I think that treason was the verdict…and crucified–a penalty that the Romans only imposed on the worst of criminals.

Paul spent a winter in prison…I wonder what those charges were?
Timothy, evidently, joined him in prison. I wonder what those charges were?

The point, of course, is that as soon as religion becomes involved, one must look at the “facts” of charges, convictions and sentences with a very different viewpoint.
