Mormons and the Bible

The Baltimore catechism was pre-Vatican 11. The church now teaches that God’s mercy is endless and unbaptised children will enter into the beatific vision. The Catholic church is Devinely instituted for sinners and sometimes Mormons and Catholics and Protestants go astray and make mistakes. Remember what Jesus said to Peter 2008 years ago: "You are Peter and on this rock I will build my church. Look not on your sins but the faith of your church and the gates of hell shall not PREVAIL upon it.

Come back home you know you are being drawn home. Christ can heal you He wants to heal you. It doesn’t matter how broken you are or how far you have fallen away. He is calling you back. God bless you, God heal you and goodbye.
You have just also admitted that catholic doctrine changes.

I’m just lurking on this thread, but I wanted to step in here to correct this. The Church does not now teach that unbaptized babies *will *enter into the Beatific Vision. The Church teaches, and has always taught, that nothing unclean may enter into Heaven, even those “only” (for lack of a better word) tainted by original sin.
What the Church does teach, however, is that we have hope that God, in His infinite mercy, has a way to make clean the souls of those infants who die without baptism. We in no way know for certain what happens to anyone who dies without baptism through no fault of their own.
So, while earlier theologians were correct in their assertions that souls tainted with original sin could not enter Heaven, the Church has essentially stopped speculating on what, exactly, does happen to them. We simply state that their eternal fate is in God’s hands.
Origninal sin! Give me a break. Why would God punish someone for Adam’s “sin”?

Boy you better make sure that He does not punish you for my sins!

Why then, did God send His Son to suffer and die for our sins? Why then, did Jesus descend into hell (limbo) and redeem the souls of the dead?

God is merciful and just, the entire Gospel and the Church itself are testament to this very core doctrine.

I am sorry that you never caught onto this aspect of our faith.
Maybe I “never caught on” because it wasn’t taught, youngster! I just turned 60

Notice how snow is the last mormon on the resevation. where are all the others? You are an embarassment to your faith.
alanjeddy,

We’ve bantered back and forth - you made a false claim. I challenged you to prove it, you tried to change the subject, I challenged you again, you avoided the question… round and round.

But seriously now, do you think that people like me can really be insulted by people like you? Seriously?

Wow do all mormons defend their faith like you do? You never once proved your case because you can’t. I win you lose end of story goodbye.
Tell me boy,

What case was I trying to prove?

Be specific. What case. Please use my quotes.

Well then could you please show me where that was defined as Catholic Doctrine,

NO POPE OR COUNCIL EVER DOGMATIZED LIMBO AS BEING DEFINED AS CATHOLIC DOCTRINE.

Now you seem to be a pretty good source for talking for the Church, now could you please prove your source. I would like to see where that is. You cannot say things like this against the Catholic Church and not have proof. So please show me where that is defined in Church Doctrine. Anything ever defined as Catholic Doctrine is written. Now PROVE what you are saying!
My source is Sister Mary Cletus (no kidding) 8th grade, St. Patrick’s school, San Diego California, circa 1962.

What the church taught then was not dogma? Sr. Mary Cletus was an apostate? Oh No!

Seriously, that teaching went on through High School at St augustine also in san diego, home of this lovely forum on which we try to kill eachother. 🙂

Oh my are we defensive. How can you engage in apologetic debate and be so ignorant of your own faith. Is that how you defend it by denying it? My wife was a mormon (Thank God she now is in RCIA) and I probably know the faith as well as you. Your missionaries had more that they could bargain for.

Do a little research and you will discover that in 1890 polygamy was renounced, over Utah statehood issues. I don’t lie and God is my witness.
Well that settles it snow. You’re cooked. Don’t you know that if you want to settle a doctrinal question you should go to an ex- member of a church?

I am ex-catholic. I now assume the position of Arbiter of True Catholic Doctrine on this Forum. Questions please?

So what am I chopped liver? Snow knows his stuff, but he doesn’t need me standing up for him!!

Sorry snow, I just had to chime in.

No. You said the Church now teaches that unbaptised babies WILL enter Heaven. I said that is not correct. The Church teaches that we are to leave them to God’s mercy, and we can have hope that He MAY have a way to save them. We simply don’t know what happens those who are not baptized through no fault of their own.
This is not a case of semantics. If it were a certainty that unbaptized babies were admitted to Heaven, it would not be necessary to baptize them as soon as possible. Precisely because there is no certainty with regards to what happens to them, it is critical that we baptize our children as soon as possible after birth.
Does it bother you that your church cannot answer so simple a question as “Where do unbaptized babies go?”

That would really bother me. It is central doctrine, and you have no idea how to handle the question.

Why wont any of you apostate mormons admit the truth? Oh that’s right you are going to be gods. Worlds of your own to have dominion over. You are all seduced by the devil.

Punished for Adam’s sin? Not exactly. Affected by it? Certainly.
If you throw mud around, you have comiitted the wrong-doing, but I still get dirty. I am not punished for your sin (the mud-throwing), but I still have to get cleaned up. Baptism cleans us up after Adam’s sin dirtied us.

Clearly if there is no doctrine on the issue then it is not a central doctrine. Since God has not seen fit to give us that answer, I would not expect His Church to have a definitive answer.
Does that bother me? No. I know that at the end of time, God will reveal all to us. I am quite content to hope in mercy and justice, and wait on His timing.

Since my only purpose for stepping into this thread was to clear up alanjeddy’s misstatement, please don’t be offended if I don’t respond anymore. I really did not mean to derail the thread from the original topic, and this is now getting even further away.

It is a stange thing. This site has all sorts. Form smart, honest, passionate people, to passionate people that don’t know what they are talking about, to oddballs and kooks. Variety makes the world go round I suppose,

There the RebeccaJ that’s we’ve come to know and love. No too knowledgeable, certainly not very Christlike, but obnoxious and insulting so at least you’ve got that going for you. You go girl.
Keep up the passive aggressiveness! 👍

Maybe you should look up the meaning of passive aggressive. I wasn’t being passive, just aggressive.
No, I’m the passive aggressive one! For instance, a few weeks ago I pop-psychoanalyzed Rebecca (who was totally asking for it) on another thread. Of course, she took my bad behavior in a perfectly calm and rational manner. Not even one gratuitous insult–I swear!😃

Who says the age of miracles is dead?

You made a specific claim… that someone had a vision.

Prove it.

You just made it up of thin air. You invented it. It is false. You know it.

… and stop sending me childish Private Messages.
Wilford Woodruff (March 1, 1807 – September 2, 1898)
Citing revelation, Woodruff issued the 1890 Manifesto which ended the church’s official support of plural marriage in the territory of the United States and directed Latter-day Saints to only enter into marriages that are recognized by the laws in the areas in which they reside. He wrote in his diary, “I have arrived at the point in the history of my life as the president of the Church … where I am under the necessity of acting for the temporal salvation of the Church”.[5] Some historians[who?] consider the 1890 Manifesto to be Woodruff’s most important contribution to the church.
