Read what I posted. I never said I was opposed to them studying it. I said I am opposed to them “telling the world” because what Mormons “tell the world” is lies and justifications.

Just like I am sure you would be ooposed to Catholics being given the key to the secretive LDS vaults and “telling the world” what they found.

The difference is, Catholics are obviously not afraid to let folks see. The LDS vault will stay closed because what is inside exposes the fraud that is the LDS Church
Gerald & Sandra Tanner for one have published documents in their publications for years forwarded to them by those in a position to obtain them. Have Tanner’s ever been sued by LDS for fraud or slander?

I agree - If LDS have the “Truth”, why FEAR throwing open the doors of their own archives to scholars? Why not reciprocate?

Tragically, LDS in the know about what’s in the vault, are certainly in a moral & ethical no man’s land. Need to pray for these poor souls and the LDS people as well :gopray2:

Are you kidding me? :rotfl: Thanks for posting that, LW7.

The baptismal font is no longer used because that area of the Basilica has been structurally compromised over the long centuries.

The funniest part of this whole story is the LDS translation of the mosaic.

Latin: Baptismum In Mortem (not Baptisimo as the story incorrectly reports)

Bogus LDS translation: Baptisimo = Baptism In = After (In means After? really guys??) Mortem = Death (at least they got that word right)

Correct English translation: Baptism Into Death

Which is taken directly from the bible:
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
  • Romans 6:3
The verse in context:
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
  • Romans 6:3-7
Mormons, who don’t know anything about the bible beyond the proof texts they learned for scripture-chase, would never recognize the allusion to that very well-known passage. Typical Mormon stuff.

Paul (formerly LDS, now happily Catholic)

I pray of they do indeed have bad intent, the holy angels will do something good in it for the Lord.

I read that article along with some of the other ones. Interesting. Just another Catholic conspiracy. I also love how they take a heretical Christian group and say “Look! Joseph Smith was restoring something that was lost from ancient Christianity!” Even though that heretical group only believed or practiced one thing that the Mormons do, they grasp onto it as evidence of a Church of Former Day Saints.

Yes, if I understand you right…that CCC460 proves by the Catholic Church itself we become gods…I remember debating several Mormon men, wrote out all the CCC’s leading up to 460 and they still were latching on making it say something else. They refused to acknowledge the footnote of it from St. Thomas Aquinas on the Eucharist, and St. Irenaes.

They will use the findings to support theirs and show their subjects what scholars Mormonism is really all about.

This and parallelamania is why I automatically regard every point an LDS member makes with skepticism that borders on dismissal. They far and away too often stretch the truth and distort the words of others to the point of the ridiculous that I just don’t see the point of investigating further. In one instance FAIR took the writings of one of the ECF and rearranged the sentences, completely changing the meaning of a paragraph. That is simply dishonest and things like this make me doubtful of the truthfulness of all LDS.

I hope we don’t see more…because it is most offensive, profoundly offensive to the truth of Christ lived out in the Church.

I am always so busy, and noted now my keyboard is getting old…To be clearer, the Mormons came on here a few years ago stating the Catholic Catechism 460 proved they were right in the concept we become gods. I told them to read the prior statements to get the context as well as the footnotes to 460 and they refused and kept reasserting that even the Catholic Church teaches exaltation and eternal progression. It was sickening.

I really think such types do not have it in their beings to seek truth. It is all about them, not dying to self but promoting themselves and having their own place on the throne of God.

That to me is Lucifer who wanted to be god…and St. Michael removing him from heaven,
‘Who is like unto God!’

The only solution is for Mormon leadership to come forward with the truth that they know theirs is not of the Lord but of man’s creation…same as how Ellen White and others were drawing on same sources out there when Restorationism was created in the mid 1800’s.
