Well gee, if the majority of evangelical Biblical scholars (the most conservative) support the unorthodox reading, why wouldn’t the liberals? And I never claimed it was settled, just majority support.
How does “most evangelical scholars” = “most Biblical scholars” when Evangelicals are just one part of Christianity?

I think she was saying that if the Evangelicals, being conservative, believe this than certainly the liberals would jump on board.

In the end, does it really matter or is this an argument over who is technically correct on trivia?

Yes, this is what I meant. Evangelicals are the most orthodox and least likely to deviate from the creation ex-nihilo reading. Yet they do. They wouldn’t do so unless the rest of the scholarly world compelled them.

And also this:

If one is going to make claims about what the “majority” of any given group thinks/believes about something one should be prepared when someone calls for reference.
