Mormons teach that Jesus fufilled all ordinances of the church which include marriage. Therefore they taught he was married.

I read at one point in the Journal of discourses they said he was married to Mary Madgelene and Martha.

Can anyone give me moer info?
Or the exact quote and where it is in the journal of discourses or mormon doctrine?

**Here are some statements from early Mormon prophets and apostles teaching that Jesus was married and had children.
**
“I discover that some of the Eastern papers represent me as a great blasphemer, because I said, in my lecture on Marriage, at our last Conference, that Jesus Christ was married at Cana of Galilee, that Mary, Martha, and others were his wives, and that he begat children.”
(President Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v2, p210)
“It will be borne in mind that once on a time, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and on a careful reading of that transaction, it will be discovered that no less a person than Jesus Christ was married on that occasion. If he was never married, his intimacy with Mary and Martha [the sisters of Lazarus] and the other Mary also whom Jesus loved [Mary Magdelene], must have been highly unbecoming and improper to say the best of it.”
(Apostle Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses 4:259)
One thing is certain, that there were several holy women that greatly loved Jesus - such as Mary, and Martha her sister, and Mary Magdalene; and Jesus greatly loved them, and associated with them much; and when He arose from the dead, instead of first showing Himself to His chosen witnesses, the Apostles, He appeared first to these women, or at least to one of them - namely, Mary Magdalene. Now, it would be very natural for a husband in the resurrection to appear first to his own dear wives, and afterwards show himself to his other friends. If all the acts of Jesus were written, we no doubt should learn that these beloved women were his wives. (Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, p. 159)
“We say it was Jesus Christ who was married, to be brought into the relation whereby he could see his seed, before He was crucified. “Has he indeed passed by the nature of angels, and taken upon himself the seed of Abraham, to die without leaving a seed to bear his name on the earth?” No. But when the secret is fully out, the seed of the blessed shall be gathered in, in the last days; and he who has not the blood of Abraham flowing in his veins, who has not one particle of the Saviour’s in him, I am afraid is a stereotyped Gentile, who will be left out and not be gathered in the last days; for I tell you it is the chosen of God, the seed of the blessed, that shall be gathered.”
(Apostle Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses 2:82)
They taught that Jesus and the apostles were persecuted and killed for being polygamists.
“The grand reason of the burst of public sentiment in anathemas upon Christ and his disciples, causing his crucifixion, was evidently based upon polygamy, according to the testimony of the philosophers who rose in that age. A belief in the doctrine of a plurality of wives caused the persecution of Jesus and his followers. We might almost think they were Mormons."
(Prophet Jedediah M. Grant, Journal of Discourses, Vol.1, p.346, August 7, 1853)
Early Mormon leaders taught that they were direct descendants of Jesus.
Joseph Smith was the first to reveal this teaching, when he informed the plural wife of Apostle Judge Adams, that the Apostle “was a literal descendant of Jesus Christ.” (Oliver B. Huntington Journal, p. 259)
Prophet Lorenzo Snow, and his counselor George Q. Cannon, later declared this doctrine publicly:
President George Q. Cannon also spoke … he said, "There are those in this audience who are descendants of the old Twelve Apostles - and shall I say it, yes, descendants of the Saviour Himself. His seed is represented in this body of men.
Following Pres. Cannon, President Snow arose and said that what Bro. Cannon had stated respecting the literal descendants among this company of the old apostles and the Saviour himself is true - the Saviour’s seed is represented in this body of men. (Journal of Pres. Rudger Clawson, pp. 374-375)

As to the marriage feast at Cana - it could not have been Jesus’ wedding. The gospel according to John states
On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. - John 2:1-2
Who has to be invited to his own wedding?

Not doctrinal, and isn’t taught as such.
Same old discussion. If a Mormon doesn’t believe what their prophets teach them, then why be Mormon?

The fact remains that mormonism is so far into error that blasphemies like this are accepted. No one in mormonism defends the opposite, the truth, that Jesus was NOT married. Any “corrections” made to these teachings has been that it was “speculation”, not that it was outright error.

Doctrinal or not, mormonism wanders into astounding heresies.

It was taught throughout the LDS organization until fairly recently. All of the important LDS books written before 1990 taught it. Examples:

Jesus the Christ by James Talmage

A Marvelous Work and a Wonder by LeGrand Richards

Mormon Doctrine by Bruce McConkie (the closest thing they had to a catechism when I was LDS)

It was taught in Sunday School lessons, Elders Quorum lessons and was stated to me by the official who performed my temple sealing to my wife.

Add the authoritative statements of the prophets and apostles I quoted above to all these, and you say it was not taught as doctrine?

All of the faithful Mormons who believed that Brigham Young was God’s prophet believed him when he taught in General Conference that Jesus was plurally married and had children. Now you are saying that those people believed a falsehood taught by their prophet.

What falsehoods is GBH teaching now that you believe?

When in doubt, trust the bible. The bible clearly names Jesus’ bride:
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. - Rev. 21:2
And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, - Rev. 21:9-10

GBH is dead, now it’s Monson. The latest I heard, at the last General Conference, is that Celestial Marriage is the highest virtue a Mormon could shoot for.

Yeah, sorry. I have been saying GBH for so long it is stuck in my head. 😛

The very first institute class I ever attended before I joined MOrmonism was a Gospel Doctrine class. The instructor was talking about how the virgin Mary conceived Jesus and he said, I paraphrase to the best of my memory “we’re all adults here, we know how babies are conceived-- it happened in the usual way between heavenly father and Mary…”.

Now MOrmons can claim ‘that’s not official doctrine’ till their faces are blue, but the fact of the matter is, not one person raised their hand and contradicted that statement.

Ooops I forgot the reason I brought that up, which is, the issue you brought is one of these issues. It used to be accepted as well known fact but now that Mormons want to be considered Christians by others they are trying to wish it away.

When my daughter converted to Mormonism in 1995, she informed me that Mary is simply called a virgin because she had sex with an exhalted man in order to conceive Jesus, and yet when any of you mention some of these outrages and heretical statements, the LDS here simply say that is not official teaching (as if the LDS actually have “carved in granite” teachings.) It seems that what the LDS believe is only what they want to believe and it changes daily. Also, if you happen to mention some of the things that Mormons have taught over the years the LDS will just dismiss you as “anti-Mormon”.

Be that what it may, it is totally clear and documented that the LDS prophet once taught (and all faithful LDS were expected to believe what he taught) that Jesus was married to several women. So if the LDS are now denying that, well it can just be written off as “dissembling” yet again.

In the UK, GBH = gross bodily harm 😃

To use the technical terminology  she was “knocked up”, or “shafted”.

The idea that she was raped & [insert appropriate word] by “God the Father” is unspeakably foul. It makes the Incarnation into a Greek myth of Divine rape. No way is that Christian. Smith & his followrers must have had minds like sewers to come up with that

BTW - does the Mormon “God” get STDs ? These questions are impossible not to ask - it’s their idea, after all. So they have to take responsibility for it. It is they, nolt we, who imply that “God” gets herpes
