Mormons to build temple in Rome

The president of the mormon church, Thomas S. Monson announced this morning (9:00am PST) that the LDS church would build 5 new temples. Temples are where ordinances are performed for the living and the dead, including the use of “sacred” signs and symbols, oaths and penalties.

The fisrt 4 of the 5 were announced and then a little pause, and then the announcement that the 5th would be in… Rome, Italy. There was a wry smile and the congregation (probably about 20,000) gave a rumble of laughter.

No news as to the size of the temple, whether it will be a small one like many of the new ones (often the size of a small Catholic church) or a large one. Certainly the building and dedication will be a media event. This will be good PR for the LDS church. It will be interesting how it goes. Certainly an invitation will be given to the Vatican to attend and walk through the temple before it is dedicated.

The Catholic Church - the great apostate church, according to the Book of Mormon (2 Nephi 28 and elsewhere) “the great and abominable church, whore of all the earth”.

The Catholic Church has to be apostate if the LDS church is to be true.

Anyway, I am gearing up for a number of talks at my wife’s LDS church that will mention the building of the temple in Rome - a certain sign of the Lord’s work moving ahead and us reaching the end days and the return of Christ. It will almost be as bad as there being a mormon President of the USA.

Are we neutral ? The Vatican has requested that geneological records from Catholic parishes not to be given to LDS family history researchers. There is even an exorcism prayer used by Catholic priests that mentions specifically the “angel” Moroni - the mormon “prophet” who gave the book of mormon to Joseph Smith. We are Christian’s, but not fools. Mormonism isn’t neutral. I have spoken to a number of former Catholics who became mormons. Their reasoning shows poor catechising.

Mormonism is not neutral. Take it from one who has been through the temple ceremonies. It has many good things in it. But then you can find a good biscuit in a trash can - but that is not the primary place you search for one.

This will be a sad event for Mormons if they build a temple in Rome. IF this is true, how are they going to keep pointing the finger at the Catholic church in Rome as the anit Christ, while they have a presence in Rome? While Mormons point the finger at the Catholic church, they have 3 more fingers pointing right back at them as the antiChrist church. Maybe they will change their doctrine again to justify their false prophecies? That seems to work for them, It is just so sad the simple minds fall for this wind of doctrine that comes and go.

Gabriel of 12, it is definitely true, from the mouth of the president of the LDS church himself. Generally, a site has already been found when such an announcement is made.

Mormons will get themselves excited, as they will see this as taking the battle directly to the heart of the Apostasy. It will be seen as another sign of “God” blessing his people. It will be used to gain PR and to proselyte Catholics.

On a more sinister note it will bring a fundamentally evil secret rite and ceremony into Rome to mock Peter, Paul, the early Saints and Church Fathers - the majority of whom are seen as heretics (excepting Peter and Paul) or at best misguided.

Mormon history finishes at the New Testament, is in preparatory mode during the Reformation, and does not start again until 1820.

Oaths and covenants will be offered in the temple. One scene has the temple patrons following a command on the film spoken by an actor betraying Satan. Another scene shows God putting Adam and Eve into a situation where hey must choose the “lesser” of two disobediences to perform. Some Father that is !!

I think this is a non-event. The Jehovah’s Witnesses, Hari Krishna and Scientology are already there, so it’s not like they’re bringing anything new.

I think to mormons that it will however be a great deal and will be used for their PR purposes. But you are probably correct if you think if I am a “hardliner” when it comes to mormons and their temple “worship”. You make an excellent and valid point. Mormonism is one of the great heresies of today. I actually disagree with Isaiah Bennett, an ex-priest turned mormon, returned to the Catholic church. The mormon temple ceremonies are not just trite, because of he who is the author of them.

Guys, I do have to come to the LDS’ defense here. The Catholic Church is not the “abominable church.” Mormon doctrine states that the abominable church is no specific church. Every Mormon I know while of course doesn’t believe in the Catholic Church, acknowledges that in accordance to their teaching, it is the closest thing throughout the apostasy.

I doubt they would build a large temple in Rome, unless they want to have serious problems on their hands. I’m all for them building a temple in Italy…but Rome…I foresee this stalling like the unfinished temple in Honduras.

Apostle Bruce R. McConkie certainly believed the Catholic Church was the great and abominable. As a missionary, I was taught it in my mission. it is not politically correct to speak it now. But then if not the Catholic church to whom does it refer ?

No thanks, he is one of the more anti-Catholic people that post there. I don’t really care what his opinion is. But another mormon said something similar today. So I wonder.
 
This is grave matter. I have lived in a couple of different states in the United States throughout my life. Every time an LDS temple is built it changes the whole area. You will see hoards of LDS members starting to travel and live in the area. It changes the culture, the history, and the politics of the area.

People need to know how serious this is. Poorly catechized Catholics will be victims to these “wolves in sheep clothing.” Catholics are among their favorite victims, because they are the least informed of the simple precepts of the faith. Mormonism is NOT a Christian denomination… Watch Out!

I just purchased 3 copies of Catholic Answers Mormonism: A Catholic Perspective, and I would strongly suggest that everyone here do the same!

This is not true, at least not from what I am reading what Mormons are saying. Which is, there is not a large enough Mormon population in Rome to support a temple. They fully expect and will encourage Mormons from all over neighboring countries, and other Italian cities, to travel to Rome.
 
My own thoughts on this are two-fold.

First, when the Catholic Church builds a Cathedral, it appears to me they are built where the Church can most effectively serve the Catholic population, evangelize and administer most effectively the poor, sick, etc.

This is clearly the case in Salt Lake City, where the Cathedral is in a very central location in SLC. Many Mormons visit the Cathedral. Many Mormons are evangelized. The same can be said for the Cathedral in Las Vegas, it is just barely off the strip, in the heart of all the things the Las Vegas strip represents.

Mormons, on the other hand, usually build their temples in largely affluent, at least middle class, suburbs. They seem to purposely shun any location that has a poorer population, unless the demographics make that impossible.

So, any Mormons who are attracted to live near a mormon temple are those who can afford to move to a generally middle to upper class area, where real estate prices are too high for the poor.

There is no consideration to administer to the poor, sick, etc from a mormon temple. These structures exist only to perform rituals for mormons, and useless rituals for the dead.

At any rate, the more Mormons who are passing through Rome, the more may be touched by the Holy Spirit and led out of the lies. This is what we should be praying for, that all who enter Rome will be touched by Truth.

Where I live, in SLC, there are 400-600 adults baptized each year in the Diocese of Salt Lake City. Not all are former Mormons, but many are.
 
These Mormon temples are simply places which are built so that GA’s families in SLC can benefit from their ties to the construction companies which build them. The McTemples they build in places like Rome are hardly used at all. I recently drove by the Omaha Nebraska temple at 11 a.m. on a Friday morning and the parking lot was completely empty.

The Mormons build a lot of unnecessary buildings. They have to have some indirect way of getting all of that tithing money they receive in SLC to their families and good friends. If they ever opened up the books in that institution I believe the amount of cronyism would simply amaze everyone. It’s no doubt as out of control as the city of Chicago with even less accountability. There’s a reason they keep the money transactions hidden.

No one knows. However, there has been a lot of speculation. In the past, when McConkie’s book came out, people began to talk of the catholic church. Others believed it to be communism. Others believed somethng else. I believed it to be capitalism and the free market.

When Mormon Doctrine was written, McConkie was not an apostle.
