Mormons: What About Kolob?

I am certain these men weren’t talking about our moon, but some other undiscovered moon with life on it. There is always the possibility there is a moon somewhere in the universe that has life on it and when we discover it we will all understand what Joseph was talking about. Until then we just need to accept these sayings with faith.

It is no different with the Lamanites. We have never found any actual Lamanites, but it is obvious there must be some because the Book of Mormon says there were. When the moon men and the Lamanites are found, we will understand what a great prophet Joseph was, but this will probably not be made known until the great winding up scene.

ROTFL!! When we find the Lamanites, it will undoubtably be with “the eyes of faith” that the witnesses to the BofM used to see the gold plates and the angel. And won’t we feel silly then.

There is some evidence that Smith Sr also made such comments. There is a testimony of a certain Oliver Huntington who claimed that at his patriarchal blessing Smith Sr, the founder’s father, told him that he would someday preach the “gospel” to the inhabitants of the moon. That same article in the link above has a statement to the effect that there may be life on the moon but that the explorers of the late 60s and early 70s missed it.

It is entirely possible that Smith thought these things, maybe even taught them. However, there’s really nothing solid there. Some Mormon critics spend an unneccessary amount of time and energy on the matter. There’s plenty to demonstrate what kind of “prophet” Smith was without deleaving into the world of speculation.

FWIW, Kolob Canyon is located south of Cedar City, Utah. Beautiful rock formations. Now I know where the name came from.

Boy, I’m tellin’ ya! Four of us spent four days tooling around Utah on motorcycles week before last. Not the first time I’ve ridden thru there, and hopefully not the last. It is the most spectacular terrain, I love it. And very little traffic.

All the motels we stayed in in Utah had the full complement of porn on the in-room tv’s, with the BoM in the lamp table drawers. Every restaurant had Mormon literature all over the place, for sale, right next to the signs advertising gormet coffee and espresso, with busty waitresses serving huge pitchers of beer and bottles of wine. I’m not so sure the Word of Wisdom has been properly preached throughout the Mormon heartland.
