Why do you guys not have crosses in your church and temples?
From what I was told it is because the cross is seen as merely the means of execution. Mormon friends ask āIf Jesus had been hanged or beheaded, would you put a noose or a guillotine in your churchāWhy do you guys not have crosses in your church and temples?![]()

ā¦Iām speachlessā¦(oh but Iām actually typing! LOLPoint of fact, in Mormon Ward buildings, there are no religious symbols on any walls. There are more often pictures (mostly by Mormon artists) that depict Jesusā portrait or sometimes other BOM themes. The only substantial symbol you will see is on the top of their temples, which is the angel Moroni with his trumpet point to Zion (Missouri) where they believe Christ will return. Inside the temples there are many symbols, but not many traditional ones. There are marble oxen holding up a large baptismal font and painted rooms, but not many New Testament themes or symbols. This sets them apart from most other Christian denominations.![]()
Thatās not very charitable at all, and in part kind of true, a Cross without a Corpus, the body of Christ is kind of just that, an execution device. A cross with the body of Christ depicted on it, now that points back our salvation and, like St. Paul said, help us preach Christ crucified.Grrrrr, donāt you just want to beat up one of those mormons!?
ā¦they really bug me when they say these stupid things!

THEY LOVE THEIR PROPHETS MORE THAN THEY LOVE CHIRST!![]()
javise01 Donāt ask anyone else! Ask me, I know all about mormons! More than youāll ever need to know!
Interesting information. Does anyone know where I can find out more information about the Mormon faith? Iāve recently met a friend that is Mormon and I think some of the things she says are ā¦well, weird. Iām a recent Catholic convert from United Methodism. Iām not always sure what to say when she talks about her faith.
Thanks:![]()
Parker, you are twisting this all around now! I asked why you do not have crosses and yet you have symblos and images of prophets instead!Zundrah,
I am a Mormon, and we have several pictures of Christ on the walls of my home. We donāt have a picture of Moroni or Joseph Smith or any other prophet (not that we arenāt allowed toāmy wife likes the pictures of Christ the best.) The Mormon chapel where I attend also has several pictures of Christ on its walls.
If youāre saying that for a person to love Christ, they must necessarily love the cross or the crucifix as the one and only major symbol of Christ, then I think you are mistaken. I think the major symbol of Christ is the āLordās supperā and the covenant making that goes on as each person partakes and thinks about Christ when they do partake. A person can visualize the crucifixion and resurrection in their mind without seeing a picture or a symbol on the wall. One should worship Christ the Savior, not the symbol of Him and His mission.

:tsktsk::tsktsk:Javise01,
You could ask lots of questions by going to mormon.org and asking whatever questions you have. Some LDS (Mormon) posters here have answered a lot of questions, and you can actually pull up the answers by clicking on the personās name and then clicking on the option of selecting all of their posts. I hope you will give your friend the benefit of the doubt when you hear strange things, many of which are not true or are not explained well. Everything Mormonism teaches is Biblically based, though some teachings are hidden in the Bible.

Uh, no not really. It is frustrating, but charity and love above all else. FWIW, we were taught the same thing as JWās. Iām glad no one tried to beat it out of meGrrrrr, donāt you just want to beat up one of those mormons!?

Zundrah,
I donāt think I twisted anything. The statue of the angel Moroni is a symbol, yes. Mormons donāt worship Moroni or the statue. The trumpet is facing east as a symbol of the resurrection, and a symbol that the gospel proclamation should be to all nations with the āsound of a trumpetā meaning be very clear and be like a āwake upā call to the nations of the earth.
ā¦you donāt say if you are catholic or not (Iām protestant of the methodist kind).Uh, no not really. It is frustrating, but charity and love above all else. FWIW, we were taught the same thing as JWās. Iām glad no one tried to beat it out of meTheir actions probably would have turned me off to Catholothism

How would you react if a Mormon said exactly the same thing, but substituted the word āCatholicā where you said āMormonā?Grrrrr, donāt you just want to beat up one of those mormons!?

Oh, well then that explains your hostility. You have yet to find the peace of our Lord.ā¦you donāt say if you are catholic or not (Iām protestant of the methodist kind).
p.s. please donāt actually believe that I want to go around beating up mormons!I was mearly expressing emotion!
