i have come across a few differnt morning offering prayers…and i was wondering whether you could ‘adapt’ the prayer …

also besides offeringyour pryers, works, joys and sufferings…can you also offer other stuff like sleeping, waking, eating, drinking, reading, watching tv, talking, walking, standing, sitting, lying down, heartbeats, breaths, steps, movements, actions, everything else that is offerable that has not yet been offered etc

i have come across prayers (on the internet and in my own prayer book that offer some of the above to god for various intentions)…

so i was wondering if you could adapt the morning offering prayer to include the above offerings…

and can you add intentions (i like praying for the holy souls in purgatory and for the dying)…

do you think it would be much use to the people i offer it for if i added the extra offerings

I have seen several versions also. We simply picked the one we liked best and use that. It includes an intention for Christian unity which is why we chose it. The things you mentioned would certainly be included in your 'works" and 'joys" of the day so I don’t know if you need to list them separately. As for the intentions, most of the versions I’ve seen already include the souls in purgatory.

In general though, I’d say there is no harm in adapting a prayer like the Morning Offering to more specifically suit your situation. I assume that’s how we ended up with different versions to begin with. I would adapt the Our Father, Hail Mary, or other prayers like that though!

Absolutely make this offering prayer your own!

I’ve adapted it over the years and keep changing it as circumstances change, or I include offerings for specific people who are having surgery that day, etc.

I offer my rest (which isn’t in the original morning offering prayer) because I have chronic illness problems and rest often during the day. We can offer God everything!

I spoke with my priest once about sometimes feeling the overwhelming need of how much there is in our world that we need to pray about, and that I often feel like I’m failing to pray enough. He asked me if I prayed the morning offering, and when I said yes, he said I was already covering pretty much everything!

Yes I offer everything, every moment, every breathe, every word, everything, offer it all to God as the Living Prayer of my life. I offer even my awful miserableness where I am lacking and weaknesses as well as any temptations I face.

This prayer deepens the living of the Gospel, it challenges the soul to grow in virtue, keeps the soul mindful of the Gospel and makes the soul realise it is constantly in the Lord’s Presence. It also sees everything as prayer. It helps the soul to be drawn closer to God.

This prayer does a great good even though our little offering is our poor little life because God does great things. You probably will not know the great things God has done with your prayer until you go home to God at the end of your life. You can also back date your offering as God is Eternal, so you can offer yourself from the moment of your conception.🙂

You can daily make a morning offering and again repeat it at night united to Jesus upon the Altar celebrated around the world at all the Masses of the world. However whenever you attend Holy Mass unite yourself to Jesus upon the Altar and unite your offering to Him there with love and thanks for everything.

‘Man has no greater love than to lay down his life for his friends’

You cannot presently die literally for another person, but you can offer your life as a prayer and all in it and this is a form of dying to yourself and laying down your life for another. You may offer yourself for specific intentions, you may offer yourself for a specific person.

If you should sin after you have decided to make your life a prayer do not worry this is part of the progression of the Living Prayer, go to confession and offer yourself miserableness to God and strive again anew in Him in Living Prayer. Living Prayer helps us to be more mindful of the occassions of sin and to grow in virtue and reduce in sin.

I offer myself for Priests, the Priesthood, Consecrated Religious, vocations to the Priesthood, conversion of people to Jesus and for Peace on earth. This is my primary offering and prayer of my life, but I also add other intentions for God’s will to be done.

I suppose this Living Prayer is a little daily bloodless martyrdom.

I am not sure I can explain it fully, though I do live it, but after the weekend I’ll do my best and message you.

My morning offering is EVERYTHING for the relief of the Church Suffering. This includes the Heroic Act Of Chariety. Both are from Susan Tassone’s book PRAYING IN THE PRESENCE OF OUR LORD FOR THE HOLY SOULS, published by Our Sunday Visitor

I have not forgotten you nor what you asked. I am sorry I have not messaged you yet with my explanation. It is taking sometime to prepare and before I send it to you I am sending it to a Priest for him to look over it and make sure there are no errors. I promise you as soon as I have put it together God willing, I will send it on to you.

absolutely you can adapt it.
for instance, those trying to incorporate freedom from addictions and bad habits to their spirituality can include with prayers, offerings, sacrifices, sufferings, fasting from food, fasting from drink (or drugs, tobacco, bad language, porn etc.) and name the bad habit they are trying to break. this was how Matt Talbott broke his alcohol habit by consciously recollecting and offering up that sacrifice and effort every day.
