I also have had terrible morning sickness during each of my 5 pregnancies. I had it worst with the last one–I was so sick I only gained 9 lbs and she was 8lb 6oz!!!

Anyway, some things that have helped me are those sea bands things you wear on your wrists–put them on before you get up. Wheather it’s a mental thing or they really work, I don’t know, but they have helped me.

Also, Altoid mints were very helpful. They come in various flavors (peppermint, cinnamon, ginger), are strong, and small!

Keeping your blood sugar level is good, complex carbs along with protein every few hours. See Marilynn Shannon’s book Managing Morning Sickness for other ideas

That’s all I can think of right now

Definitely ask your doctor about this one, but mine gave me the green light. I took a Unisom pill every night at bedtime. Not only did I sleep great, but I didn’t feel nauseated until at least 5:30 or 6:00 the next evening. I could get through the day, and just had to suffer through the evening hours.

I didn’t learn this until baby #5, and totally wish I had known about it for #'s 1-4!!! It made such a difference. Before I started taking Unisom, I would just lie on the couch and the other kids would approach me there with their needs. We homeschool, and I couldn’t do anything. I would just look over their papers and nod my head. After starting the Unisom, (or even the store brand), I could totally function during the day, and then fall apart in the evening. By then, my husband was home, and able to help out. It saved me.

I read a wonderful book called “Your Body’s Many Cries for Water.” It had some excellent advice in it and basically said most of the population is suffering from chronic dehydration through mistakes in diet.

The dr. who wrote the book explained that a new baby’s cells are dividing and developing so fast, that very much water is needed for this creation. The new baby uses water from your body’s reserves and leaves not much for your own quickly dividing cells, i.e. stomach lining cells, for instance. This causes nausea and vomiting because the stomach lining is not able to reproduce itself adequately, hence that sometimes “acid-y” vomit.

I was pregnant when I read that book, with my 2nd child, after being sick for 5 months with my first. (I worked during part of my 1st’s pregnancy, hence why I couldn’t get adequate water intake.) I started drinking 60 ounces of water daily, with adequate salt intake so I could “hold onto” the water, and my morning sickness was immediately GONE.

With my 3rd baby, I made sure I had adequate water, and wasn’t sick an iota.

With this 4th baby, I am also not sick at all, and keep up adequate water intake.

You must also be sure to eat enough salty food, or add a little salt to your food (not an excessive amount, just a normal amount of salt added to food), so your body will not become flushed of all salts.

Avoid all caffeinated beverages, caffeine dehydrates you.

I highly recommend getting this book, you can find them cheap on eBay. “Your Body’s Many Cries for Water,” by Dr. Batmanghelidj. (His book is very believeable because he isn’t selling anything, he is just telling you to drink your water.)

This is really interesting. THanks for the info. In the morning, before I’ve eaten anything (like as I’m helping my husband get out the door), I usually have to run to the bathroom and anything that comes up is usually a dry heave and sooooo acidy and horrible. However, I drink tons of water before bed, but…maybe I’m just not getting enough during the day. I’ll keep trying to up it. Thanks mass4life!
