Mortal or Venial?

I went to confession last Saturday to confess the fact that I felt I was not placing enough trust in God and instead letting certain fears control some decisions about standing up for my faith within my relationships/life. Since these fears had recently caused me to almost willingly choose to miss Mass in favor of extra time at a family reunion (my family is not Catholic) I felt it was necessary to address it in confession.

My question is then: since I did end up going to Mass (though it was a bit tearful do to the situation I was put in) would my hesitation in almost not attending and my confession of my fears be Mortal or Venial?

I was thinking they would be considered venial since I’m not actively trying to mistrust God (I wish I could follow without fear of consequences), but since I had attended daily Mass and received the Eucharist at one point before I went to this confession I am wondering if I should have confessed improper reception of the Eucharist as well?

Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut!

You confessed it, it was forgiven, trust in the Mercy of God.

If your hesitation was after your confession, be at peace, it was not sinful. It was just a feeling, a temptation, not a sin. Fear is an emotion, not a sin.

Be at peace, child, be at peace.

Fighting temptation is not a sin. You went to Mass and are free to receive communion.

It’s not a sin at all.

Please get more spiritual counsel if you indeed believe this scenario has anything sinful in it. You have a skewed view of sin if that is the case and need some help from your pastor.
