The Catholic Church is a Community of Salvation. It is of Heaven, where the elect enjoy God’s Face; it is of Purgatory, where the elect are purified of sin; and it is of Earth, where the elect enjoy God in the Blessed Sacrament. Those who are receive Baptism of water join the Church Militant on Earth, and those who are receive Baptism of blood or of desire join the Church Triumph: they become members of the Church, one of the elect - saints. The Church is the Body of our Lord Jeuss Christ, for the Sacrament of Salvation, the Holy Eucharist, makes the Church. Christ is the Salvation of believers, the Savior of the world.

When a saint commits mortal sin, he cuts himself off from Christ, and, therefore, from His Body the Church. He is no longer within the Community of Salvation. He is in the state of Hell. And if he should die with a single mortal sin on his soul, he will go to Hell. The saint has, as it were, fallen off the Body of Christ, like a flake of dead skin falls off of one’s arm, for he is dead to Christ and alive for the world. Yet this flake of dead skin Christ can pick up off the floor and make anew, part of Himself again, if the soul only gives his sins to Him by Confession. For our Lord is a skilled Physican, who knows how to heal Himself. But He cannot reanimate a flake of skin that dose not want to be reanimated, for the members of His Body have free-wills and they can choose to be a part of Him or not, and this is not so different from the cells of our bodies, which act on their own - so to speak. So if the saint wishes to go with the wind and end up in the furnance, he shall, due to a persistance in mortal sin or not going to Confession: He refuses forgiveness, so he will get punishment.

There is no such list. But the Catechism of the Catholic Church dose show in its Ten Commandment section some mortal sins.

What about the 7 deadly sins?

Greed
Pride
Lust
Gluttony
Sloth
Wrath

Those can, and do, lead to breaking the 10 commandments.

Nancy,

Here is a good resource for an examination of conscience when going to make a confession. This helped me to refine and really examine where I have sinned in ways that may not seem obvious:

Peace.
