Mortal Sin Before Death

Leaving aside masturbation because I think the OP was just using that as an example.
The bottom line is that even if a person lives a really good life, if they commit a mortal sin just before death and **die unrepentent **then they go to Hell. That is something we know for certain.
What we don’t know is if someone in such a scenario actually repents or not before death. Only God knows that.

So Christ says if you die in mortal sin you will not go to heaven.

So therefore:

A man who follows Christ as his savior endevoured to live a Christ-like life for his entire life. He sinned many times but made sure he repented his sins. He took communion and attended Eucharist each Sunday. And slowly but surely deepened in his faith over his years and grew stronger in his relationship with God. He ensured he did many good acts and tried to show love and compassion to his neighbours.

So above we have an example of a good and average-type Christian if you like. They have their ups and downs over life but make sure they do everything to live a Christ-like life and repent for their sins.

So say this man from the example above comes to his death bed. And an hour before he dies he masturbates and does not repent; therefore committing a mortal sin and dieing in mortal sin.

Will this man be banished to hell since he died in mortal sin? Or will he still go to heaven.
Pepp,
One of the most frightening passages for me at one time was Heb.10:26-27 this reads. “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice is left. 27. but only the fearful expectation of judgement and of raging fire that will comsume the enemies of God.”
This means we are not to continue in a sinful lifestyle when we know the truth of the consequence. The raging fire, for example.
See Num.15:30
We all fail, but the Lord is merciful and ready to forgive a contrite heart. Remember, we can’t fool the LORD. 🙂

God bless you as you search the Bible for guidance,

Do not make the mistake of thinking that God is soft on sin. God is a just judge, strong and patient.

If you keep the rememberence of the 4 last things, Death, Judgment, Heaven and Hell, constantly before you, and call them to mind often, you will not easily fall into mortal sin.

But if you pretend that these 4 last things are anything but certain, you are giving the Devil the opportunity to work against you, to tempt you into forgetting judgment and slipping into sin.

So Christ says if you die in mortal sin you will not go to heaven.

So therefore:

A man who follows Christ as his savior endevoured to live a Christ-like life for his entire life. He sinned many times but made sure he repented his sins. Many, many holes in this line of thinking:
  1. Masturbation isn’t necessarily a mortal sin.
  2. People such as the one you describe do not commit mortal sin lightly, as you seem to suggest. And if they should commit mortal sin…
  3. Why would the person you described not repent this time, when he has a lifetime of repentance?
  4. God, who knows the moment of death for each of us, will not play “gotcha” with our immortal souls. He will always provide the grace necessary for us to be saved.
