Hi brothers and sisters,

I have been trying for three weeks to get fast internet service
from ******** company (I blocked the name). Three weeks ago, they assured
me my modem was on the way and would arrive by Date X. It never arrived. Days later, I called them and asked where it was.
Oh, they replied, the order was never put through (oh yes it was!! They did it WITH me on the phone!!), because you don’t have fiber optics capability at your building,
so you need DSL instead.
I’m thinking (then), so I don’t have fiber optics, and you, the biggest telecommunications monopoly in the United States, do not have the courtesy to call me or send me an email to tell me you’re not going to complete my order, and just leave me hanging???

So anyway, I order the DSL. The guy agrees to waive one of the fees because of the trouble they caused. So I order the DSL, and I’m told the modem will arrive by UPS on a certain date. That date arrives.
I get a call from my mom while I’m at the store saying that a TECHNICIAN from ****** company called telling her that ** I *** had a scheduled appointment for today at NOON and that he couldn’t make it and would come another day. BIG NEWS to me!!
WHAT scheduled appointment? NObody told me about any technician coming at all,
not ever, not once. What’s going on here? He leaves a number for me to call him.
I get a recording: Sorry, this number is not set up to receive voicemail messages.
By this time, my blood pressure is rising. Weeks have passed now. And now I’m hearing for the first time about an alleged scheduled appointment with a TECHNICIAN, which he claims he can’t even make, but leaves me a phone number that does not work.
So I’m like, what the H*** is going on here? So I call the ***** company. By this time, I’m getting really IRKED because I need to get dressed to go to work and can’t be late for any reason. So, after being put on hold (as usual) by ***** company, I get a fellow all upbeat who tells me that, why yes! I DO have an appointment with a technician to re-wire my phone jacks, or else my family will lose their land lines once I connect the modem.
Now I’m really flustered, WHY didn’t any of you tell me this when I placed my order?? My parents are in their 80s and cannot be waiting around for a technician to come at whim and I have to work!!! Oh, we’re sorry for the inconvenience (( inconvenience?? You never TOLD me about any of this!! )), and by the way, it’s gonna coxt you $57.95 for this installation. That was it. All this nonsense from this company. I went ballistic (( I am not emotionally stable anyway and have to take medications - KLONOPIN chiefly, for this )). I am ashamed to say that I blew my stack and flatly accused them of running a scam and of (EXPLITIVE)-ing me over. I started yelling at him, I am ashamed to say.
I also yelled at the next people I talked to and slipped and used the word G-d Darn once.
I was really irritated, flustered, and very angry over this.
I know I have to get control of my temper, but this was very frustrating (( a relative had just told me that she had to constantly call this same ***** company for WEEKS in order to get HER modem from them, so this incompetence is not limited to my experience )).

I am wondering if my explosion of temper, cussing, and saying G-d Darned once, was
mortally sinful.
Any thoughts, learned opinions? thanks in advance, I am deeply ashamed for behaving like this, but I also know that this has been a VERY frustrating three weeks.

A mortal sin requires a full, free consent of the will and intellect. If you have a mental, nervous or emotional disorder, do you actually have the ability to fully and freely consent to a sin? If not then how can it be mortal? The last thing you want to do is to start getting scrupulous over whether an episode of this disorder is a sin or not. God doesn’t demand the impossible of us.

Please read over the Scrupulous Anonymous pages and then talk to your priest about whether and how to judge your conscience in light of your condition. Also please ask St. Dymphna to help you with this, she is an expert and has been ministering to people with these kinds of disorders for well over a thousand years.

Never, ever give up or lose hope.

Jay,

If you stop worrying about the world and stop playing the victim card your life will be a lot happier.

Love,
Rainaldo

If you stop worrying about the world and stop playing the victim card your life will be a lot happier.

Well, that was about as helpful as an earthquake.

Who is “worrying about the world?”

I asked a question about Mortal Sin.
The first person who responded offered a considered response.
This one above didn’t address the issue at all, and also offered
a gratuitous personal insult as well as the second half.
You know absolutely nothing about my life except the few snippets, and
they are mere snippets, that I have revealed on these forums.
Playing the victim card? I can guarantee that most folks would NOT be able
to walk in my shoes. Most folks do not even survive mental breakdowns, they end up
in sanitariums. By the grace of God and modern medicine, I have survived them and work and hold down a steady job. Who are you, or anybody else, to tell me to stop
“playing the victim card”???
How is it playing the victim card to expect REASONABLY-good service
from the exhorbitantly Rich company that you are PAYING to GIVE YOU reasonably good service???

I asked for learned replies. The first reply WAS. The second was insulting, and with no personal basis for such an insult. You don’t know me, and I haven’t wronged you in any way whatsoever.

You didn’t address my question at all. It had only to do with whether a particular frustrated response might have been mortally sinful.
There was no playing the “victim” card. I even mentioned in my post that my relative had told me that she went through hell getting this company to follow thru on their promise to have her modem delivered by a particular date (they didn’t and she had to harangue them for weeks before they finally got it to her. This is understandable mishaps from a small
mom-and-pop kind of business, but not from a large monopoly telecommunications conglomerate. For one thing, because of their incredible lack of company intercommunication, there are no shared records at this company on it’s vast computers. How do I know? Because: I had to give my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER to nearly a dozen different employees. THAT in particular, here in the USA, is frankly a very dangerous thing to have to do, because YOUR social security number in the wrong hands could cause your identity to be stolen and your bank accounts wiped out. And having to give it to around a dozen DIFFERENT employees in one company greatly increases the risk of your social security number being misused, because every company has it’s practicing crooks working for it. At my company alone, the majority of theft (money theft) and of shoplifting is committed, not by our hundreds of thousands of customers in our store, but by OUR EMPLOYEES. And that is true of most companies.
Incompetence which requires me — or YOU —** to have to keep giving your SS number**to different employees over and over again, increases the risk that you will be defrauded by one of the “crooked” employees. That’s just one thing. Then there is the issue of not telling you that you have to pay extra for service that you have ALREADY arranged and budgeted-for ((trickery and failure to inform)). Again, this is all understandable from a small, understaffed mom-and-pop operation, but not from the biggest conglomerate in the United States.

Kindly refrain from making gratuitous personal remarks to me that do not even address my question at all.
God be with you.

Dear CatHerder,
thank you for your considered reply. I appreciate that.

I realize that I am, indeed a nervous wreck on very strong medications ((which I sometimes forget to take, which opens up a whole ‘nother can o’ worms when that happens, lol )), but still, I know I have to get control of the nerves and temper. Having to take these meds may mitigate my guilt somewhat, but it doesn’t make
blowing up and cussing people out “Right.” It is the Company, as an aggregate,
which behaves incompetently. These poor working-stiffs that I yelled at
are in the unfortunate position of having to be the ones to pick up the phone
when a very frustrated customer calls and has had-it up to his or her proverbial “ears”
with the company’s inability (despite it’s vast wealth and monopolization of the
telecommunications industry) to perform even reasonably satisfactorally.
Finally, yesterday, after all this back and forth (and me having been transferred to offices located all across the country for the past three weeks instead of just to offices in South Florida (and they knew my address and that they should let me speak to those in SFL!!),
)), finally, after all this, they set an appointment with me for Tuesday between 8 am and 6pm ((again, all at THEIR convenience, to heck with people who have work-schedules, they don’t even TRY to accomodate or help you in this matter)). To show just how LITTLE intercommunication there is within this enormous company, and this is really appalling, a few hours later, the technician calls back and says he’ll be happy to come and see me on MONDAY ((not Tuesday, as the company made the appointment for)).
Was this the company being nice and upping my date?? Nope. They never even CALLED the technician. HE made a Monday appointment. I am not going to waste an hour calling the conglomerate today (( I have to get ready for work soon )) to let them know this. I’ll be transferred to half a dozen different people, including probably one or two in India (lol), and then inform them, and then somehow that will get messed up by them, and then no technician will ever come at all. That is my experience with this ungodly-large company. So I’m going to let the guy come on Monday (( IF he shows up )), and then just let the guy come on Tuesday too, and tell him that another tech has already been here on Monday. Is this mean of me? Maybe. But again, that’s not my INTENT.
My intent is to GET the service I’m paying for !! And IF I call them, my experience is, that they’ll cancel the Tuesday guy, then call the Monday guy and confuse the daylights out of him, and HE will end up not coming too, and I’ll have to go through this whole charade again for yet another week. I cannot understand how an enormous multibillion dollar corporation can have such an appalling lack of intercommunication. Yesterday, my conversation with one of their reps ended up being a three-way call, with the reps debating back and forth a bunch of issues. My head was spinning listening to it, plus it was almost time for my ride to work to pick me up and I wasn’t even dressed (this had been over 2 and a half hours on the phone with these people already yesterday), so I asked, please, when you agree on what needs to be done, please call me back and give the info to my family who will write it down for me. She replied curtly, we cannot call you back. I said What? Why Not? And she said, our phones are not equipped to make
OUTBOUND calls. I was dumbfounded. I said, You Mean to tell me that there is NO WAY for you to return my call?? Ma’am, I have never heard of such a thing, you are the largest telecommunications company in the United States, and you’re telling me that your PHONES can’t make outbound calls? Not one phone in your ENTIRE LARGE office will enable you to call me back??? And she said, no, that’s how it works here. I said, Ma’am, that is insane. I work for an ENORMOUS department store chain, and we can call anyone back from ANY phone in the company, in store, in corporate office, anywhere. And she said, well we can’t do that at this company, all companies are different. And I said, Ma’am, that’s insane. Different, maybe, but your company is ten times wealthier than even my own employer, and you can’t make any outbound calls from ANY phone in your offices? And she again insisted, NO.
Guys, that cannot be true.
Anyway, guess what ((and this proves that it’s not true)) ??
After I hung with them, she CALLED BACK just before I left to give me the TUESDAY
appointment, so YES, they CAN make outbound calls.
Why do they lie to customers like this???
Don’t they KNOW that if we want to, we can ruin their business by
spreading the word, by name, of how bad their service is??? I don’t get it.
