I am in a state of sin but confession is Saturday morning. How can I stay at peace until the weekend while I’m in sin?

Thanks!

Same. I’ve said sorry to God and told him I’m going on Saturday. Try to remember He’s merciful

Nobody’s perfect, Jesus cares that we try. Have you said an Act of Contrition ? I’ve been in your situation many times and usually I start obsessing about it and it’s not good. Try to think or do something else, I often find just reading through the Bible calms me

  1. Make a perfect act of contrition
  2. Use your bad feeling as a reminder that you don’t want to have to go through this feeling again and you will therefore be more motivated to avoid the sin going forward
  3. Use Mass Times app to see if there’s a church near you offering an earlier confession time than Saturday

If you are contrite, God wants to save you. He has promised to grant you anything you ask in Jesus’ name if it is good for your salvation. Ask Him to be able to make a good confession on Saturday. If you really need it for you salvation, He will ensure it happens.

As others have said, remember this feeling. It’s a good deterrent.

I just so happened to read this question while I was walking to daily mass, so I kept @MiserereMei25 and @halogirl in my prayers and as my intention for mass today that both of you receive the great mercy of God and not fall to dispair 🙂

The MassTimes app is wonderful, I never would of known that there are churches within 30 minute drive of me that have daily confession. Very convenient app

You could call the priest and schedule a time sooner if he is available.

Time only permits me to make it to Saturday  But I will trust in His love and desire for me to be reconciled asap.

Me too… I am very heartbroken and ashamed.
I don’t want to ever see my face again.
Thinking that I committed an awful sin disgusts me completely and I’m starting to question my call to religious life.

When I have confessed grave sins which could of been mortal sins as well, the priest in confession has told me to be calm and know that everyone sins and God doesnt expect us to be perfect. Obsessing on the sin only makes us wallow in guilt which can lead to more sin.

The best advice the priest gave me was that when we commit mortal sin we think it’s the worst thing in the world, but in actuality, it’s very common and is something many people fall to. Not that we can forget about it, it’s still bad sin but we shouldn’t beat ourselves up about it either.

Not to mention, if someone regularly commits mortal sin and then all of a sudden says they will stop and confesses it, realistically if this has been a regular thing for months it’s not going to be that easy to stop cold-turkey, there will probably be more falls along the way. God cares more about how we pick ourselves up (confession) then how often we fall

Thank you for your warm reply. This sin was a sin that I have committed in a long, long time. After I decided to be a sister and started discerning, I had many temptations, and it led me to this.

I don’t know. I thought that if I want to become a religious I must be pure in every aspect. I prayed for the sin I committed and asked for forgiveness… but I feel that it’s not enough. I feel that I can’t worship the Lord or pray to the Virgin Mary because I am so disgusting. I have a statue in my room and many icons, but I feel that I’m not even worthy to touch them.

I just don’t like myself anymore…

I think this is a trick of the devil. The devil wants us to fall to temptation but if his usual tempts aren’t working, he has to find other ways to get us. So if this sin hasn’t been tempting you recently because you grew in willpower or whatever, he has had to break you down slowly. Once he did he realized that you feel bad about this sin and don’t want to commit it again. This doesn’t help the devil.

The devil wants us to feel hopeless and worthless, unworthy of God’s redemption. In this way, we are less likely to go to confession, less likely to feel forgiven, and more likely to throw in the towel and just continue to sin.

I’ve heard it so many times and I’ve experienced it myself, when we resolve to not commit whatever sin we struggle with and we go a month or so free of it, if we eventually fall we are very unlikely to not fall again. More than likely we will fall 3-5 times because we feel horrible and worthless and we feel “might as well just sin”. The way you feel now is exactly what the devil wants you to feel. Afterall, guilt is from our conscience but shame is from the devil. Ask St. Michael the Archangel to protect you, do not fall to dispair!

Everyone sins, priests and religious are not protected from sin. It isn’t expected you will be perfect because you won’t be. The best saints were sinners but people who knew how to ask for forgiveness and move on 🙂

Well of course the BEST saint was not a sinner. Mary. Neither are the Angel’s that are saints. And of course no saint IS a sinner, many WERE sinners. And candidly, we are expected to he sinless. Though when we fall there is remedy. Some saints are considered with small t tradition to have been sinless outside of original sin. But dying sinless is our goal.

I know. I wish I could be like them.
Basically I failed tonight so my entire self has failed, I feel like.
I just feel undescribly unworthy for worship because I am a sinner.

I think you should listen to the audio from Fr. Ian Petit, OSB, that Rob posted in the other thread here - click on the link to see the audio clip from Youtube. It addresses the situation of when we feel we’ve failed. The clip is also very similar to something a confessor told me a few months ago.

How do you figure out what your personal prayer life should look like? Spirituality
Thanks , @MariaChristi . I must give credit to where it’s due . Much of my post I put down to the influence of a Benedictine monk of Ampleforth Abbey , Father Ian Petit OSB . He was in the same year as Cardinal Basil Hume who as Abbot was appointed Archbishop of Westminster . He ministered for a while in our diocese and I knew the parish priest , another Benedictine Monk of Ampleforth Abbey , of the parish where Fr Petit lived It’s hard to speak adequately of Fr Petit . His preaching was t…

There is confession every day at some church near you. Hopefully I can suggest apps… but there is one I have that is called “MassTimes” and it locates churches near you and provides times for mass (obviously) as well as confession times and adoration times. I was shocked that even where I live, I could go to confession every day if I wanted, since it was offered at different churches on different days at different times, not just Saturday from 4 to 4:45 at the church I go to normally. Not sure where you live, but it’s worth a shot to check it out if you are worried. It is probably also a Website you can go to.
