i have a question about something that may or may not be a mortal sin. it applies to two of the three conditions for mortal sin (it was very, very serious, and it is not something most priests would be likely to ever hear in the confessional in their lives) but i am unsure of whether or not i had full knowledge of the sin. it was several years ago, my conscience was a mess and my standard of morality was atrocious, i believed sort of in god and kind of in sin, but was not a christian in any sense of the word. so at the time, i did not feel that what i did was wrong. but the gravity of this sin is so horrible and causes me such pain now that i am confused as to whether i should confess it or not. this is very vague on purpose, but i hope i made myself clear. if at all possible, i would love to hear from someone on this tonight before mass tomorrow, but if not, that’s okay.

First of all, it can never hurt to bring something up in confession. If you aren’t sure about something, you need to find out.

To answer your question, I do not believe that you committed a mortal sin because you did not know it was wrong at the time. One of the conditions for a mortal sin is full knowledge, which you seemed to lack.

I would confess it. If it was murder or the torture of another human being, in some way, it cannot be worse than what we do to Christ everytime we sin. If you posted here, that means that you need to rid any thought of this being a mortal sin. Just confess it and continue to live a Christian life whereby we know that God removes all sin as far as the east is from the west. God bless you and I pray that you do whatever it takes to realize the mercy of God and your inability to lose His love. And the easiest and most certain way to know this is in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is a treasure that so many people pass up. Go and be healed…teachccd 🙂

Regardless of it being mortal or venial it sounds like the past is HAUNTING you and confession will free you from that. Our Lord doesn’t want you carrying this burden any longer!

Don’t worry about whether it’s something a priest hears regularly or not because remember Christ already knows the sin and it is He who waits for you to come to Him so that you can be absolved from it!

Sometimes we do things that are so embarrassing or sinful that we don’t want to have to say it to a priest but that is our pride and a sin in itself. Confession is healing and a good priest will help you get through a difficult confession.

one question, were you been baptized before or after you converted?
because that would make a big difference,
if you were baptized before, then you have to confess what you’ve done, but if you were baptized afterwards, after you converted, then your sins have already been wiped clean.

well, if you were baptized before, then you would have to confess it, if you just explain the situation to your priest in confession, he will understand, and he won’t be angry with you, because it’s something that you did in your past that you would never do now or ever again, and he knows that,
when you go to confession, you’re forgiven because you regret what you have done, you’re sorry, you know it was wrong, and you don’t want to do it again,
your priest wants to help you get to heaven, so as long as you truly regret what you have done, then he will not reject you,

and a priest would never tell your sins to another, no matter how severe, he would suffer and die before telling the sin of any person,
so really there is nothing to worry about,

the main reason he will understand is because you have converted since then, so really, don’t worry.
