Mortal sin?

Ok, this is a tough one to post, but since I’m going to Mass in about an hour, I really would like to know if I am able to receive communion.
I went out for my birthday with my husband and some friends and ended up having a bit too much to drink. I didn’t drink any more than I have in the past, but for some reason, it affected me badly. We went to a friends house and a friend of mine, who considers herself a lesbian (long story and off topic), kissed me and I supposedly didn’t pull away right away. This is DEFINITELY not something I would normally do. Also, I didn’t intend on getting that intoxicated. I plan to go to confession very soon, but can’t do so before Mass tonight. Is what I did considered a mortal sin!!?? I’m torn because in one aspect, I didn’t have full knowledge of the gravity of the matter, but I also realize that alcohol consumption could actually increase my culpability.

If you think that it might be mortal sin, then probably it is. A lesser degree of culpability does not make it automatically a venial sin. If it were me I would refrain from receiving communion, but I am not your confessor and so it only applies to me.

I think that there is a bigger issue here and it has to to with you being drunk, being in company of such a women and having a relationship where she felt free to act in such a manner. I can understand one out of three, but three together can be a red flag for something bigger that should be addressed.

Again, if I were you I would just wait and then I would have a long talk with my confessor trying to get some guidance. I am not implying that you are a loose person but you might be on the imprudent side and trying to please everybody too much. Really good people get in trouble too, you could be one of them.

It is anyway NOT a requirement that you receive Communion every Sunday at Mass. It is only a requirement that you attend Mass. Better to be safe than sorry and do not receive until you go to Confession.

No, this is not a mortal sin, for the following reasons:

1. kissing is not grave matter
2. you did not have full consent and full knowledge of what you were doing.
3. it may have been a separate venial sin that you consumed more alcohol than you should have, but once intoxicated, this would decrease culpability

I had a similar sort of thing happen a while back where a family friend, of the opposite sex, who I have known all of my life took a big swig of beer and gave it to me like a “mother robin”… It wasn’t a kiss, but it looked like one.
There were others around, but not my wife and not her husband.
Her husband wouldn’t have cared. I don’t know about my wife.
I was caught by suprise and didn’t pull back… I didn’t really have time to! We were all drinking.

If you didn’t in participate and enjoy the kiss, I would say that you are guilty of venial sin. Monitor yourself more carefully with the drinks in the future.
