Okay, I was watching a video on Youtube and on the recommended videos on the side, there was a video titled “World’s Worst Teacher.” It had 6,000,000 views about and I clicked on it eager to see what it was about. Unfortanetly, it ended up being a bad video. It was a video about a teacher inappropriately touching a student, and it was meant to be funny - I guess, I hurry up and got out… So I am kind of scared I committed a mortal sin by watching this. Can someone please help me? I do not want to offend the Lord.

I just briefly examined my conscience and I believe I should go to confession. It may have been a mortal sin, and I have to apologize to God… I will not lie, even though the picture was very tiny on the side, it appeared to be the teacher touching the student… I should not have clicked on it. I was even watching a video about a Catholic high school… 😦 But I think Satan caught me off guard… Please pray for me and I will go to confession

you seem to be overly scrupulous. nothing about this is a sin. stop buggin’ out.

Let me clarify it a bit… I was watching the Catholic high school video and it ended. Then, a recommended video box came up and a video with the title “Worst Teacher in World” came up." I was going to click on it already, then noticed the small picture which looked as if a teacher was touching a student, a girl inappropriately. I thought for a quick sec, should I really click on this? And for some reason, I did… I think this was a mortal sin, specifically the sin of lust because I gave in to a video that may have had suggestive content - which it did.

Do you think I am being over scrupulous still? I tried to clarify it a little… I personally believe I need to go to confession, but is this still a mortal sin? Or should I ask my confessor that?

Say an act of contrition and take this to your priest the next time you go to confession.
I do not believe that you committed a mortal sin…but be guided by your confessor, not by people on the internet…

Can anyone tell me what the punishment for sin is… any sin?

Also, if we break any rule within the ten commandments, do we only break it a little or do we break the law in whole?

Take the answers to these questions and apply them to Mortal sin and what the difference is from that and venial sins.

If you are truly seeking answers to these things, I suggest you read THIS section of the Catechism. This will begin to give you some insight into this somewhat complicated question where in Scripture Paul says “the wages of sin is death”, and where Jesus says the every sin will be forgiven except blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

I notice in your second question you mention “the law” - an apparent reference to St Paul - but we are not under the law…except the law of Love, without which we are nothing…In fact we are told that “All things are lawful”…“but not all things build up”.
So it is important that we have a proper understanding of these things as they relate to that law of love - the bases for all of the other laws (Mt 22:36-40).

Concur. I don’t think it’s a mortal sin; really not even close.

But mention it in confession, and see what your priest says. I wouldn’t abstain from the Eucharist over this.

God Bless

Hello James,

What you say about us not being under the law is so true (and biblical)…I would not dream to argue with that… however, this doesn’t mean that we don’t still follow God’s commandments. The law of love, like Jesus is a fulfillment of Scriptures not a replacement. If we love God and one another we wouldn’t sin by breaking any of God’s commandments. Obeying God means keeping his Word. All sin is mortal and if we were under the law any sin that is committed is punishable by death. Thank God that we are not and we have such a loving God that provided himself a sacrifice

Hi James, your statement is not totally correct. In the CCC1961-1985 describes the Old law which brings us to the need of a Savior and Gospel of Love. I have a thread on this very subject in Non Catholic Forum (The Law Old vs New) so I want go into here. We are only free from the Law by the fruits of the Holy Spirit, but we still need a Savior. The Law was not abolished it was only fulfilled. Misconception a lot of people make on Paul’s teaching in Romans 7-8.

Actually - I was not referencing Romans…but 1 Corinthians 10:23
23 “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up.
And of course the other reference is 1 Corinthians 13:1-13…As well as Mt 22:36-40

I don’t think that anything in my previous post indicated that we do not need a savior…

Hello James,

What you say about us not being under the law is so true (and biblical)…I would not dream to argue with that… however, this doesn’t mean that we don’t still follow God’s commandments. In absolute agreement on this.

Of course then we run into that pesky business about needing to be perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect (Mt 5:48)…and the fact that none of us are - and are continually trying but then failing and getting up and so forth…on and on…
Nobody said that Love would be easy…did they…😉
All sin is mortal and if we were under the law any sin that is committed is punishable by death.
Again - we are in full agreement…When one acts with full knowledge and deliberate consent to violate one of the commandments…they commit mortal sin.
Thank God that we are not and we have such a loving God that provided himself a sacrifice
Amen to this.
Also - I thank God who, in His great Love, did not leave us orphans but provided us with His Holy and spirit guided Church to help answer the inevitable questions that we poor imperfect creatures are bound to have.

Peace
James

for something to be mortal sin, it has to be grave matter, you have to have full knowledge of it, and you have to do it with full consent of the will. ** Did I say that right? ** Maybe somebody can formulate it better.

I cannot tell you how fully you were conscious and whether or not you had enough time to do it with full consent … but these are guidelines to help you find out whether or not it was mortal sin.
But anyway best ask your priest!!!
🙂

There are 3 conditions for mortal sin not one:
fully voluntary
full knowledge
grave matter

It was not FULLY VOLUNTARY was it? If it was say an act of contrition now and go to confession sometime before your next communion.
