I am in mortal sin by missing Mass last Sunday. My parents probably won’t be able to take my to Confession today. Will I be able to receive the Eucharist? Were I to die right now, would I be in Hell? That is, is it forgiven since I couldn’t make it? I’m going to try to go next week.

I dont know the details of all of it so I best not judge. What I do know is that you probably should examine your concious and make a good act of contrition.

You cannot receive communion while in the state of mortal sin.
I would just make a spiritual communion.

How old are you? If you are reliant on your parents to take you to Mass and can’t get there yourself, there is no sin on your part.

We normally go to Mass at 12 and my own mother has just called and told me she’s arriving at 12… :-/

I could have made Mass, I think, if I had wanted to. What I’m asking is-I tried to go to Confession but wasn’t able to, will I be able to receive the Eucharist Sunday, provided I try to go again next Saturday.

I thought there was some sort of thing that if you say were going to go to Confession in a state of mortal sin, and say died unexpectidly, you would be clean because you were trying to go. I was just wondering if this was the case for the Eucharist.

Well, if you could have gone and didn’t, there is sin there. You could receive communion if you have perfect contrition about it and intend to go first opportunity, but if you were able to make Mass on your own, why can’t you get to confession on your own?

There wasn’t time to make Confession. My parents were busy today.

I’m a bit confused… You say you could have made Mass without your parents going if you had wanted. But you can’t make confession without your parents if you want to?

I’m not a priest and I don’t even play one on TV but here’s my advice. As one post says, make an examine of conscience and pray an act of contrition.

I think another another post advised you to make a spiritual communion until you can go to Reconcilation. I agree, not because I believe you are hell bound for missing Mass - I’m taking your post as being truthful so I would think you are sincerely contrite - but from the nature of your post, it seems you have some serious doubts about what to do so be safe wait until you can confess just so you won’t be facing any more doubts and worries.

DO NOT receive the Eucharist until you have received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You are only oblidged to receive the Eucharist once a year (if possible during the Easter season). However, you are still oblidged to attend Mass on Sunday even if you don’t receive the Eucharist.

As for your situation, first make a perfect act of contrtion. Secondly, try to get to Mass earlier and see if the priest will hear your confession then. Or stay later and try to get a confession. Just don’t show up 5 minutes before Mass starts and then ask.

Aren’t perfect acts of contrition asking for forgiveness PURLEY because one offended God as the reason for their sorrow, as opposed to fear of Hell? Theres no way I’m that good.

The OP never said he/she could have made it to Mass without his/her parents going. All the poster said was the he/she didn’t go but probably could have. My guess is the poster’s parents went to Mass but the poster didn’t (for whatever reason.)

But the question was about confession not whether he/she could or could not have went to Mass.

From what I am hearing this is what I would give as advice and counsel.

No not receive until you get to confession.

If you were to die and you had a pure intention to go to confession but were unable through no fault of your own then without a specific level of certitude that intention would be sufficient for mitigating your sin before the Father if you were to die before you get to confession.

However, pray for the grace to make a Perfect Act of Contrition in the mean time and pary for the grace to be able to get to confession ASAP.

Maybe this can help you…meditate on Our Lord on the cross. Picture His body and face unrecognizable with open wounds that are bleeding, His face swollen and bruised.

Give yourself time to get that picture in your mind (ask for help from our helper the Holy Spirit) and give youself time to look at Him hanging there on the cross.

You will be looking at what your sin(s) have done to Him.

Meditate on that for a while.

God bless.
