Is it a mortal sin to cause talk to others in a sexual manner via email or text?

Mortal sin requires that you know something to be a sin and that you intentionally do it anyway. It also requires that the matter be grave.

You have supplied insufficient detail in your post to answer the above…other than to say that that you are perhaps not acting with sufficient knowledge. It is best to talk to your confessor about this.

Peace
James

Your question does not provide enough material and I don’t think that nobody here can answer it correctly and proper. All I can try to figure out is that you want to know if it is a mortal sin to send messages contain something that has something to do with sex? If so, I don’t think it is a mortal sin, but not a venial one either, so give us all you really mean and then hope someone wiser then yours truly can answer you. The best thing would be to talk with your priest.

For example, like a guy texted a girl and they started talking to each-other in a sexual manner, trying to arouse the one another? What many would call sexting? (Sex texting)

Talking to a girl about you and her sexually?

Im not sure if it would be a mortal sinm, but it may be close. Any time the sexual act(including purposeful arousal of a non married signifigant other) is performed outside of a valid marraige is considered to be gravely disordered by the Church. I would research on this in the Catechism and talk to your confessor.

I personally don’t believe its a sin to talk to others in a sexual manner. I mean like imagine that a husband is on a business trip, and he decides to text his wife and talk to her in a sexual manner. Would you consider that a sin? I personally believe its ok. But if the conversation makes the other person uncomfortable you should stop it.

What if you are unmarried?

I should have asked this earlier. But what do you mean by talking in a sexual manner?

I don’t think its a sin. Because in my opinion there’s nothing wrong with arousing someone else. I don’t think Jesus minds. Look at the Song of Songs in the Bible ,it is filled with sexual talk.

This IS serious matter if the people are not married - the key is in the stated purpose of “trying to arouse one another”.
This intent places it in the category that Jesus referred to when he said, “If you look at a woman with lust you have committed adultery with her in your heart.”
So - by texting with the intent to arouse, you are lusting in your heart and this is tantamount to adultery - by Christ’s own words.

Hey James thanks for pointing that out man. I forgot about that passage. Just a quick question. If the person your talking in a sexual manner with, is your spouse, is it a sin?

That question I will leave between you, your spouse and your confessor.

Let us say that a woman send text-messages to me proposing that we maybe could have fun in the bed that would be sexual harrasment, which, BTW, is a offence in most countrys. So yes, it is a sin. It is not correct nor proper to hint that some sexual activity could be nice. And even if it would not be a sin nor crime, it is still very much (name removed by moderator)roper and obscene behavior not suitable for a Christian to do.(IMHO)
