Hello,
I want to share some of my experiences with mortal sin. You see, whenever I commit a mortal sin, I become depressed. I feel really bad because after the sin, I remember that In my last confession, I promised to not sin again, and this makes me feel so bad. I feel like there is something wrong with me because I keep sinning, even though I am constantly trying to better myself. I don’t know what to do. I pray that God gives me wisdom and whatever else is neccessary to avoid sinning, but yet I keep on failing. I feel like ther is something wrong with me, because I keep on sinning, eventhough I tell myself it is wrong, yet i still fall… but the thing is, in spite of all of these feeling, I never lose hope. Sometimes it wanes, I becomes so thin, near the breaking point, but I never lose hope. My philosophy is this; Where there is life, there is hope. and Unless one loses hope, all is not lost; it is when one loses hope that one loses everything. I don’t know if that is correct, and I don’t know if my feelings are moraly correect, but I try my best not to lose hope. What are your thoughts on all this?

This sounds like despair. You should talk to your priest about it.

You should not become too surprised that you are a sinner.
Despair is often the other side of pride.
To learn humility go to Mary.

“My spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”

When you think you are going to commit this mortal sin again, say Jesus I trust in you and look at his picture on the divine mercy chaplet. Faith is the answer, he will help you ,just give your will to him.
Also fasting will make you stronger to deal with these temptations

God Bless

You are right about never losing hope. We should always be hopeful in the Lord. However, on the top of hope, one ought to make efforts to accommodate that hope.

Do the Eucharist Adoration, sit or kneel in front of the tabernacle and pray the Rosary. Also go to frequent confession.

If you sincerely want to mend your life, daily Eucharist Adoration with the prayer of Rosary is the most powerful transformation I know of.

You owe yourself to give this a try if you earnestly want to avoid sin.

Hi, The Confused 1. I think all Christians struggle with this. I think the other posters have giving you good advice about watching out for despair, trusting in Jesus’ mercy & avoiding sin.

I would just add that Jesus might be helping you to grow in trust & humility. I was a lukewarm Catholic for years, & returned to Jesus in earnest a few years ago. At 1st, I think I was pretty spiritually prideful. It didn’t take too long for that illusion to fade. I’m frequently brought to tears or my knees with how un-holy & unlike Jesus I really am. We might get frustrated that we prayed to Him for help, but I think sometimes He permits us to fail so that we can ultimately grow in trust & humility.

A priest once told me in confession that coming to a point where we realize what we are capable of, & we know that we are nothing without Jesus, being at that point in life is not a bad place to be. It can be a gift from Jesus to be more humble & recognize how much we need Him. This idea from the priest helped me a lot.

You might want to read about Jesus’ Divine mercy, & your post gave me the thought that you might want to pray to St. Peter about this. He was an incredible saint, of course, bit imagine how bad he must have felt about how he betrayed Jesus. After Jesus loved him so much, & spent so much time helping him, he betrays Him & deserts Him when He most needs him. After He rises, who does the abandoned Jesus want to see & help immediately? I can imagine Peter’s guilt, so I know St. Peter would want to help you if you prayed to him. He has experience in this are, but he is also an expert in His love & mercy…I’ll say a prayer for you, & know that we all have similar struggles… ( After I look at your post again, I think that the bit of hope that you always hold on to & that you never lose, I think that is Jesus hearing your prayers & holding you in the palm of His hand…)

Thanks to all of you who have and those who will post replies to my plight( 🙂 that kinda rhymed). I trully appreciate the advice given. It has made me think more thoroghly on this matter. So once again, thanks to all, and may God bless you all.

Is despair a bad thing?
Yes it’s a sin against hope in the mercy of God (Trust).
God is allpowerful and He is infinite mercy so you need not despair if you are repentant of your sins He always forgives you, God already knows you are weak and frail but perhaps you don’t. That’s maybe why He allows this to happen to you. Put your trust in Him and not in your own powers. Keep close to Mary, she is the refuge of sinners and the comforter of the afflicted.

Keep up the good fight.

Although I have gotten close to what you describe, I wouldn’t say that i have gone so far as to not trust in the mercy of God. I do trust in the lord, It just that I struggle quite a bit. Thanks for your much needed advice. 🙂
