Mortal sins....if not confessed

A Thought. A man lived his entire life in opposition to what Jesus taught. In fact, his life was so sinful that it got him crucified next to the Lord. In his last moments he defended Jesus from the mob and asked simply for a remembrance. Jesus assured him that that very day, he would be with Jesus in paradise.
The upshot, the Lord hears all requests for mercy and penitence. Say yours to the Lord in the best way you know how.
And, maybe the RCC is for you. The sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession, penance) is such a refreshing source of solace.
Shalom

God is not a grouchy old man sitting up there with a rod in His hand, looking for an opportunity to hunt us down in every corner. On the contrary, we have a loving Father up there who is most generous and merciful who sent His only Son to save us ALL who is open to accept Him. HOWEVER, He also intends to execute this plan of Salvation in a certain way. Therefore, it is our solemn duty and responsibility to be in line with, and do, what He wants and how He wants it. Now, it is very clear according to the Church He has established while here on Earth. So all we have to do is follow its precepts. As for the ones who are unaware or oblivious to it, He has already put His Law in their hearts (Jer 31:33 / Heb 8:10), so their conscience will be their judge. The Sacraments along with the true and Holy Catholic way of life get us as close to the Lord as we possibly can here in this life, hence a glimpse (taste) of Heaven on Earth. Nobody should miss out on such privilege of communion with the God on Most High.

Sister, you are standing at the gates of Heaven on Earth; Catholicism

The sacrament of confession is a beautiful sacrament!!! I am suffering with depression, and it usually gets severe when i am in a state of mortal sin. There was a time when i was in mortal sin for a long time, and I started to be suicidal and have hallucinations. I suppose my soul is very sensitive. After confession, I poured my heart out and received God’s mercy. I could not believe that ALL of my sins were forgiven, even the most grave ones. It felt as if i was a new man, in a way i am a new man because of confession and my past self is dead. You feel tremendous joy after confession, and it is also the strongest form of exorcism because a person is being humble by their admission of sin. May God continue to bless you with humility and enlightenment!!! You are in my prayers 🙂

Will say I’m scared to confess. Telling others of sins is embarrassing.
A lot of Catholics suffer from this, but it is something we need to get over.
When we go to Confession, the priest is standing in for Jesus…we are telling Jesus of our sins, not a human priest.
Going to Confession frequently makes it easier. One gets in the habit, and it’s less embarrassing or nerve-wracking.

In the meantime, as others have said, it sounds like you have true contrition and have expressed this to God, so you can be at peace until it’s time for you to make an actual confession.
I would recommend you also talk to a priest if possible so he can further advise and set your mind at ease.

Thank you for the prayers.

Yes I can see how confession would help with that, deal with a lot of depression myself. So glad it helps you!

I think it’s just so unfamiliar. As Protestant only tell sins to God whikecalone in prayer.

In the case you described if the person is in the state of mortal sin and they are not Catholic or they are Catholic and were not able to get to confession; If they make an act of perfect contrition before they die then they would be saved.

This reminds me of a story I heard. When Huey Long was shot he was brought to a Catholic hospital. The sister asked him if he wanted to see a priest. He said “no sister. I am a Baptist.”
The sister took his hand in hers and led him in making an act of perfect contrition. Then he died. I personally suspect that this was God’s reward for his helping the Catholic Church while he was governor.

That’s a nice story. I’m glad the Sister was able to help him even though he wasn’t Catholic.
I have always felt Huey Long got a bad rap.

IF you are baptized validly you can go to a catholic priest and confess, my cousin did that recently.

I’m pretty sure mine in valid. Found a list last night and Methodist showed on the list as valid.
