JERUSALEM (AFP) - High on Mount Sinai, Moses was on psychedelic drugs when he heard God deliver the Ten Commandments, an Israeli researcher claimed in a study published this week.

Such mind-altering substances formed an integral part of the religious rites of Israelites in biblical times, Benny Shanon, a professor of cognitive psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem wrote in the Time and Mind journal of philosophy.

Does this guy have an agenda??
“As far as Moses on Mount Sinai is concerned,” Shanon is reported as saying in an Israeli radio interview, “it was either a supernatural cosmic event, which I don’t believe, or a legend, which I don’t believe either. Or finally, and this is very probable, an event that joined Moses and the people of Israel under the effect of narcotics.”

I find it very interesting.

does not seem to be out of the question. Does it make the 10 Commandments any less relevant or real - not really. I feel the same way about was Jesus married - does not change who he was.
 
its possible. afterall the bible mentioned the israelites using cannabis. this plant can have the effect of marijuana.
 
And this is his “proof”:
He mentioned his own experience when he used ayahuasca, a powerful psychotropic plant, during a religious ceremony in Brazil’s Amazon forest in 1991. “I experienced visions that had spiritual-religious connotations,” Shanon said.

He said the psychedelic effects of ayahuasca were comparable to those produced by concoctions based on bark of the acacia tree, that is frequently mentioned in the Bible.

So, let’s throw out the whole Bible, thousands of years of Judaic/Christian teaching, and prayerful mysticism based on this guy’s experimentation with psychedelic drugs? Right. :whacky:

Uh, no it does not. He still healed the sick, died on a cross and rose from the dead. It may change your image of him, but it does not change the person he was. In fact, to me it makes him more human. I mean he was sent as a human wasn’t he. Considering his time - it would have been suspicious if he were not married. So if he was, does that change who Jesus the Christ was - I dont think so. Does not take away from anything else he did.
 
It’s sad that someone at Hebrew University of Jerusalem in God’s Holy City is teaching people that Moses and everything Jews are all about is nothing but a drug trip.

That in of itself proves nothing about Moses being high on drugs.

This country makes tobacco products, but that doesn’t mean person A smokes.

Well since nobody can prove that miracles happen, there has to be an explanation on what made Moses say that he conversed with God. Now add hashish to the equation then voila! He’s been using it. 😃

When someone makes a claim like Moses using a certain substance, especially when said person lived thousands of years ago, it’s up to the person making the claim to prove it.

Please. Agnos, both you and I know that you can smoke hashish until the red heiffers come home, and you aren’t going to see burning bushes, split seas, or talk with God.
 
IF Moses used drugs, and IF he made up his encounter with God, don’t ya kinda think that those who were with him would have found this out and killed Moses for this?:rolleyes:
