Most Annoying TV Commercials

Mediacom ads where cable is personified as opposing DSL and dish provider caricatures on a mock game show or political debate. DSL and dish providers are presented as inferior even though Mediacom is the only of the three (and of most other area cable outlets) who cannot or choses not to carry EWTN. Ironically, Mediacom uses a game show setting and has no game show channel.

Yoplait yogurt commercials. No, your fat-free, sugar-free, chemical-laden “yogurt” is not “SO good”. And who serves artificially-flavored yogurt cups at their weddings anyway?

The Dairy Queen commercial where the little girl cons the boy into buying her sundae and then tells her mother “It’s like shooting fish in a barrel.” Yeah, way to sexualize children who would otherwise innocently enjoy their ice cream.

The H&R Block commercial that ran last winter, featuring a wife making fun of her husband and treating him like a child for using tax software instead of the H&R Block people. Apparently we don’t have enough sitcoms featuring harpy wives and infantilized husbands. Now Madison Avenue has jumped on board.

Lipozene “fat burner” supplement commercials. Yeah sure, I’ll just bet there was a “university study” on this stuff to show that it melts away “pounds of pure fat”. I’ll bet you’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn you’d like to sell me while you’re at it.

Any of those body spray ads marketed to teenage boys. Besides the overt objectification of women as mere mindless sex objects, thanks to these I had to ride campus morning buses last year with dozens of freshman boys, all fresh out of the dorm showers and freshly doused with Axe/Tag/spray du jour. It’s enough to asphyxiate large animals.

The ad is a rip-off of another horrible ad: The “Hai Karate” commericals of the '70s.

What TV commercials really really irk or annoy you? I propose three catagories for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

Current Commercial: My pick: the Head On commercial (This has to be a joke. Right?)

All Time Most Annoying Commercial: My pick: Mr Wipple squeezing the Charmin.

Most Annoying 30 Minute Infomercial: My pick: The Don Barrett ITV mock interview with the guy who invented the Almighty Cleanse.

Your nominations?
Uhhh. I havent read any other posts besides the OP but the comercial that has the baby barfing whille on the computer is just nasty 😊

I love TIVO, I so rarely see a commercial nowdays, but I am getting so sick of fast forwarding thru the vontage commercial, I don’t thing I would use their phone service if it came free with a pound of coffee, and I hate the “phone company”. Love the cavemen, hate the lizard.

You mean you don’t like the Gecko:eek:

Drug commercials…all of them.

Personal product commercials-all of them

Cable TV commercials-all of them

Political ads-all of them

Since I got the DVR, I never watch any show when it’s actually on, so I get to miss most commercials-except for watching the news.

I’m Canadian so our commercials might be a little different but the two I absolutely cannot stand at the moment are:
  1. Pepto Bismal commercials- they have people who have english as their second language or for some other reason can’t remember/pronounce the slogan shout it out in an embarassing manner. Ughhhh
  2. Astro yogurt. Some girl eating yogurt walks around talking to friends dressed all casually- except for her hips which a big block of screen cuts out and puts hips shimmying in a ridiculous grass skirt to incredibly annoying music.

And call me a prude, but I don’t like those commercials that have to do with private things, like “male enhancement” and contraception things. What you do is your business and I really don’t care; just don’t make me hear about it.
I think there should be one channel with this stuff. If one needs the info, they watch that channel.

I hate the Beyonce cell phone commercials. The one where she is chewing the necklace.

Its just stupid.

Oh, I hate ALL Pepto Bismol commercials.

I also hate all cell-phone commercials since we have only one provider in our area and none of those commercials apply to us.

I’m getting tired of the All Bran bars spitting ads.

I can’t help but snicker at the disclaimer about calling your doctor if you have an er*ction lasting more than 3 hours.

I’m sure it would be painful and cause problems, but I still think the disclaimer is funny 😃 .

can you imagine going to the hospital and explaining the ‘situation’ 😃

Historical: the BK TV ads (burger king) and all of its frenetic, seizure inducing spawn
Late night: the “interactive male” ad (a gay male call line) but it is a close call on that one, just I am more used to prancing women than prancing men, so the novelty ekes out a win.
Prime time: any drug ad
Half tv half before movies commercial: that Brittany Spears Pepsi fiasco with the “down boy” at the end, shown at a G movie for young girls
Generic: any ad with closed captioning, so that you have to look the other way to not hear it, and can’t enjoy the ad without sound

Those ALDI market store tv ads. They are mostly located here in middle Tn. I just don’t like thier ads.

I hate those “Girls Gone Wild” commercials that always come on when I’m watchng wonderful fiction of crime scene investigations or a future where womens teets don’t have stars covering them because women don’t have to be naked to be important in the future.

I’m a nurse and I worked in a trauma unit for a few years. I never had anyone come in with that specific complaint, but we saw and heard of worse than that, when it comes to “kinky” stuff. You don’t want to know, believe me. A seasoned ER nurse has pretty much seen it all, just as a seasoned priest has heard it all before in the confessional. All in a day’s work… 🙂

And BTW, if someone does have that side effect and doesn’t seek treatment, the resulting lack of circulation could cause them to lose their “manhood” if it lasts long enough. :bigyikes:

I can’t stand the one form several years ago where three college students who happen to be supermodels live in a “dorm” that is really a fabulous, airy, old apartment a good twelve or thirteen times the size of a real dorm, with a microwave and fridge inside, and the two veteran students show the new one, very solititously, how to survive by eating pizza and nachos made with Triscuits.
Issues: they are adults. They live in a dorm, which is a situation I could have lived in very easily at age eight because there is a cafeteria in the building and excellent building security, last I heard. They live on campus, where they can get a huge variety of foods form all over the world any hour a short walk away. Even convenience foods like real pizza and nachos actually would cost far less and be much better, more nutritious and easier to obtain than Triscuit-based substitutes. It ends with one of the models saying, “I think she’s going to be all right.” I would certainly hope so. She’s been old enough to make a meal from scratch most of her life, after all, and she does live in a convenience vortex.

Usually the commercials that promote MTV-style reality TV shows. Now those are definitely annoying… (-_-)
