Please share the most peaceful, meditative, lovely moment you have ever had while praying or in Mass. I like to hear about these kinds of things. šŸ™‚

Mine would have to be: I was sitting two weeks ago in Mass with my grandmother and my twin sister. The priest was reading and it was so calm and beautiful, like a big relief from everything. I felt like God was really listening to me. It kind of felt like the whole church was sealed off from the world and we were just floating somewhere, it was so quiet and reflective. I found it really easy to pray and focus on my prayers, and there was no place I’d rather be.

In short, it felt like nothing bad could happen! 😃

A few weeks ago, I was very troubled with my relationship with an ex-boyfriend. It caused me a lot of pain. I was praying to God to take away my suffering. I just offered it up. Then I had the most beautiful sensation. It felt like God picked me up in His arms, gave me a huge hug, and let me know everything was ok. All of my pain was gone. There was an enormous peace over my soul.

"Be not afraid to tell Jesus that you love Him…This is the way to oblige Him to help you, and carry you like a little child too feeble to walk"-St. Therese of Liseaux

I knew at that moment God wanted me to be His.

Mine was at the end of my Cursillo way back in 1978. I made the 10th Cursillo held in the Diocese of Orange, California.

The Cursillo ended with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Even though I had converted to the Church in 1970, I had never been to Benediction before. Our Cursillo was held at a local Catholic grammar school . . . the accomodations were primitive to say the least, but once you get into the spirit of Cursillo, accomodations mean nothing . . . God means everything.

I was kneeling on the bare wooden floor of the gymnasium almost right in front of the priest. I was overwhelmed at the beauty of the monstrance, at the priest’s cope, and the glorious singing of the many Mexican American people kneeling around me, but I was even more overwhelmed at the incredible beauty of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Suddenly I felt as if somehow my knees had become part of the floor and I had no more discomfort at all. I just wanted to stay right there, right in that moment loving Jesus in the grandest way I had ever experienced. I had no desire ever to leave, even to go home to my children and husband. In that moment, life was just me and Jesus. This happened 31 years ago, and it is as fresh in my mind today as the moment it happened.

Thank God for our beautiful and glorious Catholic Church! Thank God for making me a Catholic! :highprayer:

That must have been such a wonderful experience! šŸ™‚ What a lovely story.

I have felt a similar way before…it’s just wonderful. This is a great story.

We attended daily Mass, on Friday. And after Holy Communion, instead of giving thanks… as I ought to have been… I was thinking about my sinfulness, and my unworthiness. And even though I had just received the Precious Body of Our Lord, I felt sad.

As I knelt there… I suddenly had an ā€œimageā€ in my mind… of Our Beloved Savior, embracing me. My head, against His Shoulder. And I felt an incredible warmth and love.

It was like Jesus was saying… ā€œI don’t want you to think about that now. Instead, spend this time with Me and know that you are loved.ā€

I was so very grateful. Jesus… I love You! ā¤ļø

Just today at the Liturgy, I saw a family of five sitting across the isle. The littlest boy (around 5 or 6 years old) was obviously very tired, so his big sister picked him up, held him for the rest of the Mass, and periodically kissed him on top of his head. She also helped him through the whole Mass and seemed to be explaining it to him. I saw the Love of God in those children; it deepened my prayer!

I still remember the day I visited the doctor and confirmed suspicions that I was pregnant with DD#1, literally walking on clouds and bouncing with joy. It was inconvenient and untimely for a dozen reasons, but filled me with happiness. the only thing that tops it was her birth, and the birth of her brother and sister.

the most profound spiritual experience that remains with me is my first Y2K event. After waiting for all the kids to confess, I was the last one in line, kneeling in front of the priest from Fr. Groeschel’s order. I had been a bit disappointed as the Eucharistic procession which is the highlight and climax of the ā€œburning bushā€ ritual that is the hallmark of Y2K was going to pass me by and I thought I would miss it, but I needed confession. After he absolved me, the priest raised me up and said, ā€œMy dear, look who is coming to visit you.ā€ The priest with the monstrance stopped right in front of me, and all I could say was , My Darling Lord, My Darling Lord. The whole experience, seeing the teens we care for encountering Christ in the Eucharist, was awesome. never after that could I ever entertain the slightest doubt about Christ’s presence in the Sacrament.

About 25 years ago I was at a Catholic Charismatic Conference and the singing was just beautiful, and I kept waiting for them to sing my favorite song-How Great hou Art-I wanted to hear 10,000 people sing it. Well they never did the entire conference, I think it was 3 or 4 days long. On the last night I went into the chapel to pray, around 1 AM, and I was kneeling there, when all of a sudden, from the choir loft, the organ began to play, and a man began to sing ā€œHow Great Thou Artā€ in a beautiful voice. Then he left. It was a beautiful moment, because I felt God had just given me a special, personal gift. I don’t know who the man was, I never saw him, nor what he was doing playing the organ, and just that one song, at 1 AM, but I think it was an angel:)

Carolyn, your story gave me such a profound feeling of the Presence and Love of God. Thank you, for sharing it. <I think it was an angel, too! Perhaps your own Guardian Angel!). God bless you, dear soul.

I have another How Great Thou Art story. My cousin, who died recently after a life of service to God and His poor as a Salvation Army officer, visited once a few years ago, when we had recently joined a new parish. The church had a very good organ, but no competent organist, and the parish was wedded to bad guitar playing and contemporary music (which now sounds so dated). She wanted to see our church, she met our pastor, and discussed a local issue with him that had involved the SA. She confided that she was the first one in her side of the family to ver step inside a Catholic Church. She asked to use the organ, and the priest turned it on for her. She opened up all the stops and played How Great Thou Art and literally made the rafters shake. It was just one of those ecumenical moments of Christians together. Coincidentally (?) our parish found an organist shortly afterward and the organ is still in use, and for at least one Mass, traditional Catholic hymns are the order of the day.

I agree, it was your angel playing for you.

The most beautiful moments I’ve had were in the hospital e.r. when I can feel God’s presence as though he is cradling me in His arms, and stroking my brow to say, ā€˜ā€˜Everything will be alright. Do not be afraid, I am here with you.’’
Even though it is that I am being poked and prodded by i.v. needles and probed in my abdomen by doctors asking me ā€˜ā€˜what hurts?’’

I wanted to share something too, as a testimony to the power of Confession.

On Saturday, I went to Confession, and I was really upset about many things. I felt discouraged about my sins, and I was going through a tough time with everything. I just felt like giving up. I told the priest my sins and he said it’s very important to understand God’s love for us… and then he gave me the penance. It seemed like he thought for a bit about what the penance should be, and then told me to just spend some time with God, pray, and imagine that He’s with me and holding me. I usually get different penances, like say an Our Father or a Hail Mary - which are great, but this one was different.

but here’s the interesting part… the priest gave me this penance not knowing how important this is to me. For a long time now, whenever I’m really upset, all I want is for Jesus to be near me and to hold me. And I know that this is something that would have to wait till Heaven… but something I still really long for. The only thing that came close is the Eucharist.

I always feel a bit afraid praying for it cause I don’t want to fall into delusion or to ask for spiritual favours etc. But this time, I HAD to do it, cause it was a penance and I was doing it in obedience! šŸ™‚

So I came home, knelt before an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that I really love, and asked Jesus to be with me and to hold me close to Himself. As the priest said, I tried to imagine this, and suddenly, I really believed it was happening. For the next hour after that, I felt so incredibly close to Jesus, and it was so HEALING, like He was taking away all the pain I experienced over the week. It was so wonderful. He answered my prayer šŸ™‚

So I just wanted to share that whenever a priest gives us a penance at Confession… it is always the right thing and best for our soul, and God will honour it.

God bless.

It happens for me too. All I have to do is concentrate upon his image in my mind and he is there, holding me. I have a fondness for Jesus because he has saved me so many times over. I’ve been so close to death so many times, and told I would die, that when I do survive I know that God is with me and there is a reason I am supposed to be here.
God Bless:)
