Most beautiful polyphonic Masses

Folks,

there is a lot of discussion of the music we usually encounter at Mass - I’d like to turn that on its head a little and ask the question … what is your favorite polyphonic mass composition?

Lately I have been listening to Henri Desmarest’s Mass for Two Choirs and Two Orchestras and Bach’s Mass in B Minor.

What are some of your favorites?

If you like Mozart you should try his “Great Mass” - the Mass is C Minor.

Of course the Requiem is so famous from the movie Amadeus - I can never hear the “Confutatis” without seeing F. Murray Abraham …

I am familiar with that one as well. I still like the Requiem best!

The Crucifixus from Bach’s Mass in b minor is very haunting. So beautiful.

I like the works of Frank Martin, especially his Requiem Mass.

I absolutely love Fauré’s Requiem. It’s heavenly!

Bach’s Mass in B minor is beautiful, too.
