I need a rugged RSV Bible. One that has good, strong binding and thick pages that I can highlight and flip through a lot, any suggestions. How is the Ignatius Bible?

I love the compact edition and it seems really sturdy so far. I’ve used it a lot for the last year now. I haven’t been particular rough though. The construction is solid though.

What seems to qualify is the Second Catholic Edition, bonded leather cover by Ignatius. The bonded leather should be stronger than a hardback (but not so much as a genuine leather), and its pages are thicker than standard “Bible paper.”

The Ignatius or Oxford Reader’s Edition is also quite sturdy if you get the genuine leather, or even the Duvelle binding. The genuine leather is the most durable. The pages, through, while crisp and clear, are thinner than that of the Ignatius Second Catholic Edition.

I’ve heard, though, that in the Ignatius Second Catholic Edition the binding itself isn’t top-notch and eventually pages can fall out. I’ve only owned one (bonded leather cover) for a few months, so I don’t know. Of course, I could be confusing the RSV-2CE for some other Bible and be completely off-base.

I have a leather-bound 2CE and it’s okay, BUT, but: it’s a replacement. The first one that I received actually had a section of pages fall out. They had not been sewn. But that’s more of a factory defect. I’ve had my 2CE for about a year already, and it’s holding up pretty well.

However, my Oxford genuine leather appears to be of better workmanship.
