What is your most favourite Gospel?

You comments for the reason why are very welcomed 🙂

Mine’s John’s.

Also because of the Bread of life discourse I think 😉

Mark - the simplest and probably earliest. It doesn’t have all the fictional additions such as the infancy narratives of Matthew and Luke or the excessive and uncharacteristic “Christology” of John.

Least favorite is John - the Jesus in this gospel is so radically different from the Jesus in the others that it hardly seems to be about the same person.

I guess my favourite is John mainly because of the Bread of Life discourse too.

Luke and Matthew. They go into so much more detail than Mark. Mark is a bare bones stripped down Gospel. I love the Bread of Life discourse in John, and the beginning verses as well, but I find myself reading Matthew for the parables and Luke because he is such a good narrator - Luke’s gospel just flows.

Matthew is my confirmation saint.

I also like the fact that the Beatitudes are from Matthew, as well as Peter being called to the papacy and given the keys.

The Gospel of John. I did a Bible Study on John’s Gospel and was fascinated with the layers of meaning and the high Christology of the Gospel. I love the Prologue and the Bread of Life Discourse. I could read it a million times and find something new to ponder.

What Bible Study did you make on it? One from the net by chance? 🙂

Why isn’t the Gospel of Thomas here?

…or are we just being intolerant?? 😉

Yes! This poll is intollerant! 😃

I was thinking about it but… finally decided to include only canonical ones 🙂

Do you really like the one by Thomas? Any particular saying of his? 😉

:nope:

not so much…

😃

👍

supplementary question 🙂

Any reason why Matthew?
A couple reasons…

This was the first book of the Bible I read. As a result, it was most influential in bringing me to our Lord.

It was also the most influential book that led me into the Catholic faith. I found more verses of scripture here that seemed to be contradict Sola Fide than any other book of the Bible.

Sentimental reasons… 🙂

Wow, great then! 🙂

It was the Little Rock Scripture Study called “The Gospel According to John and the Johannine Epistles” that was held at our church. There was a video lecture with each session. Since then I have read other things on my own, and a friend had a Navarre Study Bible that we used to read the commentaries from. Do you know of any on the net?
