I prefer a good ole King James . Just curious, and not trying to be difficult, what is it that makes you say you would “stay away” from a Protestant translation??? I guess Im asking you to clarify for me why you see some as a Protestant translation. I do know the the Rheams, Douay Bible has catholic roots…and of course I have seen most mention that particular one!
have a great day!
I am Catholic not Protestant. Why would I want Protestant theology when I can have Catholic theology?? I will say that the King James is the best Protestant Bible on the market today. But isn’t suited for Catholic reading. It bears no imprimatur or Nihil Obstat, which says its alright to read it. Plus the King James has errors in it. ie. Douay-Rheims Matthew 6:9-13 and the King James 6:9-13
Douay-Rheims
Thus therefore shall you pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our supersubstantial bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen.
King James Version
After this maner therefore pray yee: Our father which art in heauen, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdome come. Thy will be done, in earth, as it is in heauen.Giue vs this day our daily bread. And forgiue vs our debts, as we forgiue our debters. And lead vs not into temptation, but deliuer vs from euill: For thine is the kingdome, and the power, and the glory, for euer, Amen.
notice the difference?? How does that not contradict Deut. 4:2, Prov. 30:6 and Apoc.22:18-19
Deut 4:2
You shall not add to the word that I speak to you, neither shall you take away from it: keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
Prov. 30:6
Add not any thing to his words, lest thou be reproved, and found a liar:
Apocalypse 22:18-19
For I testify to every one that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book: If any man shall add to these things, God shall add unto him the plagues written in this book. 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from these things that are written in this book.
