Most Luxurious Bible?

Which would you say is the most luxorious bible? Im asking because I saw one particular RSV by a company called stampley that has full colour pictures inside, and gilded pages and so forth. ive also seen older bibles on ebay that have similar features. it just seems nowadays we’re lucky to have any ‘extras’ in our bibles and there are only a few exceptions! Baronius’ Douay is quite nice but I’m wary of their quality since the pages fell out my pocket version and my missal had pages missing when it arrived! So I dont know if I’d like to take the plunge as it were and get a hardback douay from them! Plus it may be a bit heavy to read, even casually.

You bring up a very interesting point. I actually don’t think there are many really luxurious Catholic Bibles out there. When I think luxurious, I think of an edition that is made of the finest quality leather and binding. Unfortunately, most Catholic Bibles I see, regardless of translation, are either made with cheap bonded leather or some form of “genuine” leather. I own a Cambridge NRSV, which contains the Deutero-canonicals, and I think it is the most luxurious one I have: discountbible.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_code=0521681316&Category_code=NRSV

It is, however, expensive and seems to be going out of print.
 
You could check out Easton Press. They usually have some quality stuff. I took a quick glance and didn’t see the one that I gave my wife as a wedding present 12 years ago. At that time, it cost several hundred dollars. While it looks nice etc, we never read from it. Who want 15 or more pounds worth of book on their lap?
 
You want luxurious? Check out the Gospels used in the liturgy of the Orthodox Church. Encased in silver embedded with precious stones.

I guess they have a really nice larger size book of the Gospels for $700 (12x18 pages)

You can get the entire thing for $145,000. If you had ordered last month it only would have been $115,000. But they are only selling 360 sets (7 volumes plus a commentary)
 
I ended up paying about $80 for my leather NAB Study Bible. The hardest thing was finding it. It seems most Catholic Bibles are either hard cover or imitation leather. I have several others that are not Catholic ranging from top grade cowhide to bonded leather. Bonded leather is a good compromise, as it holds together well for decades.

Hmmm The Book of Kells… but you can’t have it.

Go for the Haydock Douay Rheims.
 
This Easton Press Bible has to be the most luxurious, well made Catholic Bible currently available.

I contacted Easton Press and they assured me it has the Complete Haydock notes (not the abridged version.) Cost is $477 which is certainly the priciest Catholic Bible currently available too! 😃
