Hi there im a former protestant and my family is a very “bible believing” bunch.

I was wondering what are the best and most "scholarly" books you can recommend.

Thanks

For them to read or to aid you in explaining the Catholic faith to them or for some other purpose? Please clarify. Thank you. 🙂

Defiantly books to defend with lots of sources and references. They don’t believe anything i say without proof.

Thanks

Again, are these books for *you *to study, then respond to your family’s objections, or are they to hand out to Protestants? The most scholarly books are not going to be accessible to the average person.

Another question would be whether there are specific issues you want to address, or are you looking for something comprehensive?

For doing your own study, the Catholic Encyclopedia contains a lot of apologetics and scholarly research throughout. You’d of course want to focus on the relevant articles, e.g., Protestantism, Martin Luther, Pope, infallibility, purgatory, Immaculate Conception, etc.

As far as short, single-volume books, you might like Unabridged Christianity by Fr. Mario Romero.

Dave Armstrong is a Catholic apologist who was once a Protestant apologist so he knows their arguments and can defend well. His blog is Biblical Evidence for Catholicism at
