There has been an interesting thread posted recently which asked about the most over-emphasized, over-rated philosophers. This thread asked for the most under-rated, under- emphasized philosophers. My suggestions: Chantell Delsol, Peter Kreeft, Rousseau, Edmund Husserl and Jacques Maritain.

As the originator of the “Over-Emphasized” thread, I’ll start the Response Off by Saying St. Thomas Aquinas, Epictetus, Diogenes Of Sinope, Pascal, and St. Anselm Of Canterbury.

Kreeft, Maritain, Merton, de Lubac, and St. Thomas. Maybe de Chardin too, not wanting to look like a modernist.

Descartes
I personally would not call Descartes “Underrated,” given he basically Spearated the Mind From the Body and Changed The Course Of Philosophy and Science Forever. He is Always in the “Top 10” of Most Influential Philosophers.

Personally, I Go with His Contemporary (And Harsh Critic), Pascal, who was a Scientist AND a Devout Believer.

But that’s just Me. 🙂

I agree, Descartes is mentioned in every philosophy class.

For me, I would have to say all of the Postmoderns: Heidegger, Derrida, Foccult, Lyotard, Marion, Caputo …

Emmanuel Kant, where Philosophy should have stopped 😃
Plus, Alexis de Tocqueville and Freidrich Hayek
