I am of Polish descent and I greatly admired Mother Angelica for the wonderous things she did for us who watched and listened the excellent content she offered. I am in agreement with all the complimentary comments made before mine. I can say finding EWTN 5 years ago brought me more in union with the Church and our Lord and Saviour along with Mother Mary, and the communion of the saints. It has inspired me at the age of 66 to want to sell my house and evangelize even wanting to move to Irondale, Alabama. I hope and pray I am successful in getting the logistics well planned and completed.
As far as criticizing Mother Angelica for soliciting prayers for herself that is so wrong. It is a humble thing to ask for prayers. I did it once among strangers (since I had no family to do so) and I am convinced it brought about God healing me from an incurable fatal disease (and the medical specialist could not disagree I had a miracle happen)- Mother Angelica I believe is a saint and EWTN and all it encompasses I believe are holy if not miraculous. Lastly one should not speak ill of the dead. God Bless to you all.

There will be a new series with Fr Groeschel on EWTN later this month.

If I started up a religious network like she did, I too would have everybody there praying for me at every Mass.
Yeah, why don’t you do that then? Do you think it was no small feat?

Honestly, your reasons for disliking her are illogical.

I am lucky enough to live about an hour North of Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament! I have not visited yet but want to soon!

She founded that big EWTN media empire from nothing which is great. And certainly important. And amazing. And was hugely important to me growing up.

I kinda get nothing from her as a speaker, but, that’s just me.

I loved when she would tell people to go to confession. Then she was at her best.

Mother Angelica is a VIP in my Faith life! Has been since 1990. Many trips have been to the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament. First trip was to the TV studio on top of the mountain in Birmingham. The holiness of that place kept us followers of Mother Angelica. The Shrine was newly built when we found it. Signs were not on the freeway or guiding travelers where to find it. We did and our mouths fell open at its magnificence - outside and the closest one can get to Heaven when you entered. Mother was hard at her work all her years and after. Her talks were never prepared ahead of time. She and the Holy Spirit directed her. She always began with “Let’s talk about Jesus”! Loved her then and still. Miracles - yes, several.
Please listen and you will hear “Come and visit soon, Our Lord is waiting”.

Mother had her faults like the rest of us, but i always got the sense that she loved Jesus and wanted to follow Him.

From a business standpoint, I’m impressed by the fact that she as a lowly, broke, inexperienced female nun who came from a poor, dysfunctional family background and was partly disabled for much of her life managed to pioneer a TV network. I don’t think she was looking for accolades. I think she was just looking to do the Lord’s work based on her own personal communications with the Lord. She would likely tell you that the Lord was responsible for everything and just used her as His instrument.
This…

I respect very much her efforts and those whose faith has been deepened by listening to her. I’m always very skeptical of the cult of personality surrounding any religious, though.

He did. But EWTN is still going to have a new show with him. Look at the way Sunday Night Prime incorporated clips of Fr Groeschel’s teachings with the new friars and the topic of the week.

I love how people like Mother Angelica, Fr. Groeschel, Fr. Peyton, Padre Pio and Mother Teresa can still join with us via video though they have gone on to Heaven (for sure in the case of the two saints, and likely in the case of the others). I enjoy praying my rosaries with videos of Mother Angelica or Fr. Peyton or Mother Teresa. It makes me feel much less alone.
