I have nothing but great respect and love for Mother Angelica, Raymond A., etc. It is because of them that we have so many reverts and converts and for those of us who continue to walk the catholic walk, well, they have added much fire to our heart for the love of Jesus and Mary.

God bless them all!!!:yup:

As someone who has been to two events where Raymond
spoke about Mother, I can tell you that it is obvious how
much he loves and respects her. I was fortunate enough
to meet him at a book signing and I can tell you he is a very
nice, down to earth guy. I was very impressed with him. 🙂

If Arroyo and Rev. Newhaus are representative of EWTN, then I can see why. Maybe Arroyo in his arrogance would have liked to accept the honor in Mother’s place, due to her poor health, and maybe HE is the one feeling snubbed.

Both narrators of the DC mass left little to the imagination in their derogatory comments throughout the liturgy. Arroyo has been considerably vocal in many of his special broadcasts, leading the participants with obvious biases of his own, which I believe is in very poor taste as a reporter, especially a Catholic reporter who has no business airing his own preferences. I can no longer watch him because he is not reputable, but coercive. He does not represent the totality of Catholics, but only one element, the traditionalist.
And I for one, thank RAYMOND, Mother Angelica and God for that! Its about time we started bringing the Church back to its traditions instead of allowing the secular world and those within it dictate what it should be!

AMEN! Mother Angelica has done a heck of a lot more for Catholics in the US than many of the Bishops have! In addition, she has provided access to the faith to millions around the world…God bless her…one day, she will get her reward…here on earth, but more importantly, in Heaven.

When EWTN brought me back to the fold (the final grace being with JPll’s death) I was surprised when I would talk about EWTN at my old church and they seemed to bristle. A deacon dismissed my love of Mother saying he didn’t like her at all and I noticed literature from EWTN was never around. I’m a volunteer for them and they send me pamphlets etc. to drop off places…I still leave some item in their vestible when I go, but now I mostly go to a devout Dominican parish that told me Mother and EWTN brought home many souls.
I know on a minor issue, Mother once said she didn’t like altar girls, a silly thing I thought at the time, and my old church had many long standing ones. You don’t have to be in “priest training” to be a devout helper and help the priest. When John Paul ll said it was okay, she said “fine, wont hear me mutter one more thing about it”. I doubt though, that was the reason they disliked her, it was probably more the dislike of “folksy music” we had at the time, the stricter guidlines of the catechism and other things that many church’s overlook to keep parishiners. OR that she was a woman and “not in her place”. Either way, I’ll always be grateful for the education, love and nagging the network provides.🙂

I thought Raymond’s mention of Mother possibly being forgotten was sweet… EWTN, Mother and the ministry they represent are an enormous part of his life. Clearly, the Pope didn’t come to America to dish out awards to the many wonderful men and women of the Church. But it was a sweet and caring remark.

To think Arroyo wanted to accept some type of award on her behalf is just… well, silly, really. Raymond has had the great privilege of meeting the Pope on more than one occasion and was even granted a private interview when he was still Cardinal Ratzinger. Raymond is not a spokesperson for Mother and if awards were to be presented, one of her sisters who is a close personal attendant would clearly be chosen.

As for the comments on the music, I felt this was worth reporting. Not that I necessarity hated the music. But the Holy Father had clearly and in writing expressed his opinions on liturgical music, and the fact that his preferences were not respected is, well, news! If I invite someone to our home who hates country music, beer, and barbecue, then I play mozart and serve wine and pasta if that is what they like. That is being a good host, and hospitality is one of the things we are called to in our vocation, is it not?

I thought EWTN did a wonderful job covering the papal mass. I like Raymond and Fr N .very much

I told non catholics to watch the mass there .because they knew when to be quiet ,and not talk over the top of the Pope

People were very impressed with their coverage…Mother Angelica has probably done more to bring people back to the church than all the bishops rolled into one

People have left the church because of what some Bishops did…I’ll take Mother Angelica and Raymond Arroyo over them any day of the week…they have certainly helped rebuild the church despite what many bishops did

I don’t think Raymond was angling for anything at all. He loves Mother, and was more than likely hurt for her

I think Mother Angelica and EWTN are on the blacklist of many bishops…
Wow. That’s sad. I wonder why? Is it because they are liberal bishops who simply don’t want to hear the Truth or something? 🤷

I found at my old church, they bristled (well some did) at the mention of her name or EWTN. Anything left out, (I am a media volunteer for EWTN) is gone quickly…
To be fair though, orthodox is best, but reality and saving parishes also is a priority for many. It’s easy to say, “let the dead wood go” when talking of dieing convents or groups that no longer have members, but churches can be few and far between and if a priest alienates his parishinors TOO much, they can lose the only parish they have and chance of “coming home” for many.
Like it or not, and this has been discussed on EWTN…if every Catholic in America that used birth control, got married after a divorce (withoug annul.) missed mass and went to communion, missed Holy days I(when they could go) lived together…well you get the point, if they all didn’t go to church or think what they did was wrong, we would be as very lonely group. I think I remember even Fr. Groechel touching on this…it’s a fine line to say the truth and not have your audience think they have to leave. Drastic changes don’t happen overnight and you don’t want anyone to think they have to pick, church or nothing.
I agree, liberal priests/deacons have made many think, Why bother going to church", it’s nothing special, but reform takes a lot of understanding, patience and time. If the priest makes the eucharist reverent, if he talks of dignity and love, change will happen, I see it on campus’s now, but much slower than many will like.
