I found at my old church, they bristled (well some did) at the mention of her name or EWTN. Anything left out, (I am a media volunteer for EWTN) is gone quickly…
To be fair though, orthodox is best, but reality and saving parishes also is a priority for many. It’s easy to say, “let the dead wood go” when talking of dieing convents or groups that no longer have members, but churches can be few and far between and if a priest alienates his parishinors TOO much, they can lose the only parish they have and chance of “coming home” for many.
Like it or not, and this has been discussed on EWTN…if every Catholic in America that used birth control, got married after a divorce (withoug annul.) missed mass and went to communion, missed Holy days I(when they could go) lived together…well you get the point, if they all didn’t go to church or think what they did was wrong, we would be as very lonely group. I think I remember even Fr. Groechel touching on this…it’s a fine line to say the truth and not have your audience think they have to leave. Drastic changes don’t happen overnight and you don’t want anyone to think they have to pick, church or nothing.
I agree, liberal priests/deacons have made many think, Why bother going to church", it’s nothing special, but reform takes a lot of understanding, patience and time. If the priest makes the eucharist reverent, if he talks of dignity and love, change will happen, I see it on campus’s now, but much slower than many will like.
