I wish there was another religious sister who could do it…another just as staunch as Mother. It’s good to see Fr. Corapi and the priests take a stand, but I think Mother was the best good woman on earth to lead the fight against satan’s feminists.

I have a question of my own. This happened a long time ago. Mother is no longer on the air, Pope John Paul II is dead, and there have been other WYDs after that. The question is, what do you expect to achieve by bringing this up at this point in history, other than stirring the pot?

Right now Haiti is in shambles. Children are hungry, alone, frightened and hurt. To draw our attention to something that happened so long ago is unnecessary. I think that we really have to be careful not to stir up contraversy when it’s not there, if you know what I mean.

For that matter, so is satan’s feminism in America…alive and well, I must say…a little too well…very, very well…, while many mainstream catholics watch passively and let them slap the Church around. They think being peaceful and letting anything slide is the best way to “let us all get along”.

No, it’s not stirring the pot. It’s legitimate discussion. We don’t have to talk about Haiti. We have more than enough other posts about Haiti’s pact with the devil and whatnot. It’s been on everyone’s mind.

I love Mother Angelica. She has done a wonderful job with her calling and has helped many people.

That being said I don’t really agree with her on this. The little girl who portrayed Christ is as much a part of His body as I am. Maybe they could have found a boy to play the part, maybe one the same age as Christ was in each scene, maybe even a Palestinian, shouldn’t that be even better? Should they have gone with a Palestinian boy of the appropriate age who was named Joshua? Seriously, EVERY actor/actress in unqualified to play that role. If a little girl was the only one who could learn the lines, so be it, I’m sure God will be pleased. She is a child of God. If the organizers are doing it to lead people into sin, thats a different story, but I doubt the girl herself did wrong either way (not that Mother Angelica ever claimed she did).

Talking about these things is good, and I am thankful for Mother Angelica’s “stick to your guns” attitude.

I would have to agree with Mother Angelica on this matter. It was in poor taste to choreograph something like that.

I have seen the face of this agressive feminism locally. I have seen the vast majority of lay minister positions filled with women in our diocese. And, the interesting thing to me, is that it hasn’t worked – the pews in church just get emptier and emptier.

Last year, there was a public survey to assess the needs of women in the diocese – but there was not such survey for men!

What I sense is that the philosophy is, if it was OK to have a corrupt male-dominated church locally, then it can’t be any worse to have one that is female and feminist- dominated either.

I attended a public discussion about female oppression in the Church over the centuries, which was led by a priest who seemed to encourage a discussion of female priesthood, even though the issue would seem to be dead in the Church, officially. I trumped him by challenging him to enumerate the evils of a male priesthood. And, of course, he could not and would not. I asked him what aspect of the gospel had been overlooked by the male priesthood, and he could not answer me.

One of the qualities that she and Mother Angelica shared is their ability to focus on the here and now. When Mother Angelica made her statement, it was what was pressing at the moment.

If she were able to speak and communicate today, she would be focussing on the here and now again. What is the most pressing concern of the world and the Church today? There are two.

1. This week is the anniversary of Roe v. Wade
2. Haiti is in serious trouble with children and adults dying or dead.

I believe that we have to focus our priorities to coincide with those of the Church.

Yes, it was rude, but it’s also rude to come into a thread for the sole purpose of castigating the participants for talking about something we don’t think they should be talking about. It was an interesting discussion from my perspective because I’d never heard about this incident before and it didn’t seem like it was particularly divisive or anything. I found it odd that someone would come in and try to stop others from discussing it.

What Mother Angelica said in August 1993 is just as relevant now as it was then. Were in a spiritual war, and its a full scale one.
We all need encouragement, and what better way to get it than by being reminded of the God-inspired heroes and heroines of the past: eg. El Cid, St. John Fisher, St. Margaret Clitheroe, Mother Angelica. Her outburst was, and still is, a Call to Arms and a Battle Cry.

Its a sad fact that most of us dont appreciate what we have until we lose it (mea culpa - guilty, as charged). We have to be beaten senseless before we wake up, so all of this heresy and ugliness has been a wakeup call. Some of us were downright apathetic. We took too much for granted.

We know that the Church can never fail, but Shes at Her best when it seems that She is fighting for Her very life. We have to participate ...... on one side, or the other. Theres no middle ground.
