Today was a Holy Day of obligation and while I was there at mass, the priest mentioned that Mary was there at the Passion and crucifixion of our Lord. My question is, how many years passed after Jesus died until Mary was taken up to heaven?

Also, when our Lord went up to heaven, and was no longer walking on earth, do you think Mother Mary had a Long term emptiness or a hole in her heart like we do when we lose a loved one? Or was she blessed by not having to deal with grief maybe? just curious

I have seen some estimates that say she probably was assumed into heaven around the year 50 A.D., which would place it about twenty years after Jesus’ Ascension, around the same time as the Council of Jerusalem, which you can read about in Acts 15. St. Luke doesn’t mention her Assumption though.

Does not any mother mourn the loss of a child for the rest of her life. Mary, like us had the promises of Christ that she would rise with Him and be with Him in the glory of the Trinity for all eternity. But that, like us, may not have filled the empty years, as she lived with John and perhaps aided in the Gospel of Luke.
She was promised sorrow at the Temple and she suffered for her fiat in ways we shall never comprehend. But she is at peace now, as we shall be once the road is run.
 
Have you seen the movie “The passion of Christ”? It clearly shows Mary’s pain during the passion and crucifixion.
