So iwas doing some research on Mary’s life. I pray to her to intercede for me quite a bit, especially on chastity. Anyways, I came upon this site that totally flabergasted me.

The opening statement is this:

It has been said that actions speak louder than words. And while the average Catholic may tell you that they do not worship the Mother Mary, their actions say something quite different. Let’s examine the danger in this. Foremost of all, it must be stated that we do not intend to disrespect the Mother of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! We recognize her as a highly moral woman, who while yet being a virgin, conceived the Messiah Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit of Almighty God. It is our endeavor to lay bare the evidence that the Roman Catholic Church has erred in elevating Mother Mary to a status that is blasphemous even, and in doing so, places all Catholic lay-persons in danger of worshipping her as a goddess figure. This of course, as we shall show, is against the whole of God’s command.

How can people believe this? I am not that educated on others beliefs, but this whole site, to me, is so wrong. Do some people really look at us this way?

Yes, and worse.

Some people are just ignorant. Some are just hateful, and like to slander. Some get the feeling deep down we are correct, and can’t stand it.

Our hope is to educate the ignorant, heal the hateful, and convert those hwo know where the truth is.

My heart was really saddened by this site. I dont understand why people would talk about us this way.

We do not talk about them and their beliefs. I have always respected everyones conviction.

We are bashed to no end here and by doing this, the people who talk like this are condemning themselves. As far as I can see.

That’s how you know we are right.

You don’t see Satan going after the Seventh Day Adventists or Lutheran Church the way he does the Roman Catholic Church. They aren’t a threat to him; the RCC is.

To me, though annoying, I find it comforting. To be worthy of the devil’s wrath means you are doing something right.

Get used to it my friend. It’s been this way for about 500 years now and with the advent of the internet, you’ll find that every fanatical element (of any religious persuasion) on the planet now has a podium from which to present their rhetoric regardless of how far out it is. Unfortunately, a certain percentage of people will believe precisely what they see on such sites and as a result it will require that Catholics know their faith and be prepared to refute such propaganda (charitably, by all means!) while being able to explain and defend what we really do believe and teach.

It makes St. Paul’s words to St. Timothy all the more important and relevant for us today.

2nd Timothy 2:15 Carefully study to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

Things like this bring several things to mind.

“And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted; And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that out of many hearts thoughts may be revealed” (Luke II: 34-35)

There are many thoughts posted here that reveal how people reject her as our Mother. In doing so they reject her role in salvation history. Her roll as the new eve. Jesus himself refers to her in this roll when he calls her “Woman” at the wedding feast in Cana, and at the foot of the Cross when He gave her as our Mother. She was also referred as “Woman” in Genesis 3:15, and as well in Revelation chapter 12. Of course Revelation 12 has a polyvalent meaning. But the Blessed Mother is definitely one of those meanings. The concept of her as the new Eve is not new, it goes back to the beginning, and is mentioned by a number of the ECF’s.

When I read this…
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will strike at your head, while you strike at his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)
I can see just about everywhere I look the enmity between Lucifer and the “Woman” our Blessed Mother. The only person Lucifer hates more than her is Jesus Himself.

Don’t be disheartened or discouraged that this happens, It’s all part of the great spiritual battle that’s being waged. It shouldn’t come as a shock that lucifer attacks her continuously, and from every direction, corner, and angle. It’s this enmity that I believe is at the root of why she is the greatest challenge for most to overcome in coming into the fullness of the faith in the Church established by Jesus the Christ, The Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church.

The Rosary is one of the greatest weapons in this battle, and I encourage everyone to pray it. When we turn to her as our Mother she magnifies Jesus within us. lucifer doesn’t like it and creates all kinds of heresies, anger, hatred, indifference toward her, misunderstanding, confusion, and distrust of the Catholic Churches teaching about her. This is how lucifer manifests it’s enmity towards her. So when people say that we lie when we say we don’t worship her, that itself is a lie, and from the father of lies.

I like what Fr. Corapi said, “People that have objections to Mary have unsound theology, and it is deleterious to their spirit!”

I love her, she’s my Mom.

Because thats what these people believe. Why is it that when a Protestant says something they believe to be true they are “Bashing” but when a Catholic says that "There is no Salvation outside the Catholic Church, (which means I’m going to hell by that statement) their not “Bashing”?

Oh Ya, you need to do a little reserch on this forum. There is plenty of talk about Protestants.

You can always tell the sites run by the foaming-at-the mouth loonies by the huge amount of ranting in heavily underlined and over-emphasized text.

Along - of course - with lengthy quotes from the debunked writings of Victorian scandalisers like Hislop. 🤷

If it will make you feel any better, use the website as a sort of “apologetics homework”. Practice explaining why the website is wrong. View it as an opportunity- it can’t talk back, so when you run into a real, live person who holds these views, you’ll be able to hold a lucid, calm discussion with him, thanks to this practice.

All the anger, sadness, and disbelief you feel now is directed at a website, and not a fellow human standing in front of you. Thank the Blessed Trinity (the real Blessed Trinity, and not the nonsense that website accuses us of worshipping  ) that you were gifted with this opportunity. Any discussion with a living person about this subject is best conducted in a calm, charitable manner, which is just about impossible if you’re blindsided with it for the first time.

So print it out, get out your catechism, highlighters, and pencils! Read all the quotes taken out of context, see all the Scriptural twisting, watch him put words in Pope JPII’s mouth that he never uttered. Practice your arguments now, so they’re ready when you need them.

Here is what you might want to know what the Church says about Salvation:
The following quotations from the Church Fathers give the straight story. They show that the early Church held the same position on this as the contemporary Church does—that is, while it is normatively necessary to be a Catholic to be saved (see CCC 846; Vatican II, Lumen Gentium 14), there are exceptions, and it is possible in some circumstances for people to be saved who have not been fully initiated into the Catholic Church (CCC 847).

Mainly because you don’t find our clergy standing in the pulpit preaching against any other faith community. The Catholic Church is all about preaching the Gospel, not about a comparison and contrast from the pulpit.

Furthermore, if these people are not interested in dialog then why are they talking about the Catholic faith, (and most often, inaccurately at that)?

Even you have just misrepresented Catholic teaching, since your statement concerning extra ecclesia nulla salus is completely incorrect, though there are many n-Cs/a-Cs who seem to wish it was so so that they’d have a valid gripe against the Catholic faith. (CCC 846 and following)

We won’t even get into the often made assertion that Catholicism is not Christian…

Compared to the treatment that I and many of my Catholic brothers and sisters here at CAF have recieved on n-C forums that I am either actively on or monitor regularly CAF welcomes n-Cs with hugs and kisses.

The discussions here at CAF are generally spawned by incidents where the things we discuss have been alleged by n-Cs/a-Cs to the Catholics who post here. If you don’t want your stuff discussed then perhaps you and your n-C brethren should begin focusing upon spreading the Gospel rather than targeting catholics for proselytizing out of our faith.

The whole reason Catholic Answers exists is to equip Catholics (or anyone of goodwill who has an interest) with facts as to what the Catholic faith teaches in order to counter the anti-Catholic rhetoric and propaganda, just like the website that this thread started of about.

They believe it because that’s what they were taught growing up, as was I. I HATED Catholics because that’s what I was taught to do at home and from the pulpit. And as Church Militant pointed out, that is what is taught at all the N-C churches I went to growing up. They try to prove that their point of view is right the whole time theyre preaching. “The Catholics believe this and the Methodists believe this and etc…” Instead of just saying what they believe they spend most of their time trying to disprove others. My dad who is a Independant Baptist preacher gave me a cd of another preacher they heard. I thought “what have I got to lose, I’ll listen for a little bit anyways”. Before the first 10 minutes were up he had already downed Catholics 3-4 times. That’s what other churches teach, at least the one’s I’ve been to. Some people believe that we believe Mary is to be worshipped above Jesus. I’ve been called Mary worshipper more than once…

It is sad, but all we can do is pray for their souls. Satan knows the best way to make someone angry is to insult his mother.
